He smiled at her, "I was very nervous too actually... And I know that what happened hurt you, and I'm sorry, but that only ever happens the first time," he said quietly and kissed her nose tenderly, "I hope it will become more enjoyable for both of us as we both start to learn what we're doing."
"How could a legionnaire be so gentle?" She asked, resting her head on his chest carefully.
"Because I never liked what I had to do," he said quietly, "I'm a soldier, but I don't like killing. It is not in my nature to do so. I am going to remain here and run our vineyard until the day I am called on again to fight. It is what I want to be doing."
She smiled at him, having a new reverence develop at his words. Maybe he would make a good parent yet. "There is so much we dont know about each other."
He smiled and gently combed his fingers through her hair, "You're right... Though I don't know what questions are the ones to be asking..."
Valentina smiled and propped herself up on her elbow. "Would you like to eat?" SHe asked.
"Yes I would," he smiled and rubbed her back a bit before sittin up. He admired her naked body for a moment then kissed her forehead and stood.
She stood and then went to the kitchen, dressing first of course, to prepare a small meal for him. She wasn't hungry, however.
He followed her and while she was cooking, gently massage her shoulders, "We will have a wonderful life together. I promise," he said and kissed the back of her neck.
"Said the horny soldier." Valentina giggled as she cut him some cheese and cold cuts, a traditional cena. "Water, dear?" She asked him.
"That has nothing to do with it," he rolled his eyes and kissed her cheek then gratefully took the food, "Yes, I would," he smiled happily at her as he sat, "Are you going to eat?"
"No. I'm not very hungry." Valentina admitted, though she did sit with him as he ate. "There is another dinner tonight, isnt there? A smaller one, I think."
"Yes," he smiled, "I'm going to go and get a calf from the butcher and some pig as well," he said thoughtfully as he finished his food, "Would you like to come?"
"May I?" She smiled. ANy opportunity she could get to spend time with her new husband, she would. Bonding was essential, critical at this point, and she wanted to show him that she was going to put effort into this even though it was an arranged marriage. They both deserved to live happily, and Valentina was more than glad to help him with that.
"Good," he smiled happily and put his dish in the washbasin then strapped on his sandals and put on his daily clothes.
"Galeo," She asked as she put on her own clothes and sandals. "What do you think of Caesar?" She asked refering, of course, to his conquests in Gaul an how he sent his daughter, Julia, to marry Pompey, his rival.
"I think he knows what he's doing," Galeo shrugged and walked outside, "Besides, once the war is over, he'll be removed."
"Do you?" She asked, though not disrespectfully. Honestly, she didn't understand politics. She didn't have to, she was always just a child in the nursery. But, now, with a husband., Maybe she should learn a little bit, if even Galeo's views on it.
"Yes. Why have enemies? If he's marrying his daughter over, we can no longer fight them and that is one less enemy. There will always be the Carthaginians and the barbarians in the north," he shrugged.
She laughed a bit. "I suppose you're right. What was your rank, Galeo?"
