Since I'm in a situation where I technically can do this...

Y'all know we have some amazing artists on this site, and I really like having a chance to support artists, and even more to spread awareness about copyright. (If you don't have explicit permission to use an image, it's still theft, even if you provide attribution.) I know art can be expensive (it takes a lot of work!), and so it can be hard to get your own art. So to promote proper useage and support artists, I'm setting aside $100 to buy art for folks!


How this works

This will run as a tumbola.

Leave a post providing a link to the price list of the artist you want to commission and indicate which item you are after. You can list multiple items, but you can only win one. If you list multiple items, it will all go on one line. If there's a less expensive item you want more than a more expensive item, please do not list the more expensive item; it will not get you extra chances.

If you can afford to pay for art yourself (without suffering for it) or already have plenty of art for all your characters, please don't enter. This is meant for those who cannot otherwise afford art for their profiles! (If buying art would mean skimping on something else important or working extra hours, that still counts as not being able to afford to pay yourself. It also counts if you simply aren't able to make online payments.)

At the end of September, I will stop accepting entries and start rolling for winners. I will assume that a winner will be commissioning the highest priced item they have listed that can still be covered, and the amount for that item will be removed from the pool. So long as there is still money in the pool and still people who want art valued at that amount or less, I will keep rolling. I'll hang on to money that ends up left over, but I don't expect that to be more than a few dollars at most.

I will notify the winners, and we'll get in touch with the artist. Once everything is settled, I'll send the money directly to the artist. If you do not receive your art within a reasonable time (this could be awhile, but we'll try to get an estimate), please let me know so we can find out if there is a problem. Depending on what's up, the money set aside for you may be directed to a different artist of your choice.


Some details

Anonymous characters - You can request art for anons, but you cannot enter as an anon. If you are trying to get art for an anon, simply don't mention what character it's for. (I'm not asking anyone to anyway.) Anonymous entries will be ignored.

Artists outside RPR - Is the art you really want done by someone who, so far as you know, is not a member of RPR? That's okay! I encourage going to our member artists, but you absolutely can also go to any artist on deviantArt or on another site so long as I can get in touch with them as much as needed without having to create a new account.

Premades/adopts - Although this is intended to allow folks to get custom art made to their specifications, if there's an adoptable you're in love with, yes you can enter for that. Be aware though: adoptables might get sold out from under you! If you ask the artist about a reservation, please be polite and upfront that you might not get the money for it. If they ask for an additional fee for the reservation, note that in your post so that it can be accounted for.

Artist abuse - If I am informed that you have harassed artists (stolen their work, pressed for deals or freebies, or just been ridiculous to work with, etc), you will be disqualified. If you win and the artist you choose refuses to do the work because you are being awful to them, that money will not be directed toward a different artist.

Copyright infringers - If the artist you have in mind is an art thief (illegally claiming the work of others as their own, perhaps editing it into something "new"), you will not be permitted to use money from this for their fees. This doesn't mean they can't use work others made - such as doll bases or something - only that they need to have permission for anything they are using. This also means that you cannot present them with an image you found and just pay them to edit it, but you can provide them with references.

Art prizes - Any prize artwork offered by artists will be rolled for after the money has already been used up. Anyone who has not yet won anything will be eligible.

"I never win" - This is an arbitrary rule because this is something that's been growing into a pet peeve for me. If your post contains something along the lines of "I never win" or "Might as well even though I won't get it" or anything else claiming that you somehow have less of a chance than everyone else entering, I will ignore your post. If you missed this rule, just edit out that bit and let me know. While it is great to express yourself, this is not the place for that specific kind of expression.

Want to boost the prize? If you want to throw in a few dollars to make this go further, that would be awesome! Send me a PM and I'll get you a paypal link you can send money to. Alternatively, if you can't offer money but are able to offer a piece of art as a prize, I can make that work too. This is also a test to see if it would be viable to build a community pool to periodically do this again.

Edited again to add that Acrid's forum has a price of 15 euros for a single icon in the title (it's 30 for a couple). That actually comes to $17.45.

Hey there! While that is smart, I'm not going to be able to keep track of what remains available. I'd also feel bad setting aside $40 if you win early if the thing you really want is only $23.50, since that's more than $15 unused that someone else after won't have access to. I strongly encourage you not to list things more expensive than the item you want most.

If needed, you can always post an update shortly before this closes if you need to replace one thing with another.

Also, a bit of confusion! Your first choice only has one price, listed in euros, and that would translate to $34.90. Was there something else you had in mind there?

This is an awesome and very generous idea. I'm not going to enter since I usually draw for myself, but I'm definitely going to be watching this thread to see if anyone mentions some artists that I might like.

Also, how might I go about contributing to the pool?

Is this still open? I really can’t spend money on art, and i’m Glad that you’re doing this. I can’t provide an exact link with my device, but I can give you a username and thread name. If you need a link, I don’t mind heading to a library to send you the link through an actual computer. The art I want won’t cost more than $20.

Nova, I'll chip in $10. Sorry it can't be more. Maybe...just maybe... it'll start the "pool" ball rolling that you explained at the end of your post. I think it's cool because it helps both the art creators and the art buyers at the same time/touches two people at once. I have PayPal. Give me any specific instructions whenever.

Ok, so...I have two artists in mind but I'm waiting on price check confirmation from one because it's stormy and my phone won't load deviantart...

Anyways, I just wanted to squish myself in here while I try and figure out actual prices (mostly so I can just look through my posts and find this one...makes it much easier for me to get back to this topic.)

One choice would be 6$ (humanoid, full body with transparent background, full color and shading) and the artist is both here and on deviantart and goes by the same username in both places so while I don't have a direct link to her commission page here is a link to her profile here: SerpentSolus

I can set it so that if you win and there's enough, $70 will be set aside, otherwise you only get the $50. It would count as 2 different requests. If you'd rather that $20 be available for someone else, that's fine too. Up to you.

Well, if one more person can get art, I'll happily abandon the 70 one for the 50, everyone deserves it
