ORIN - Like he had expected, Zaide was a horribly reckless driver. Most of the time during their trip from the broken wall to the base, Orin was yelling at him or trying to conceal his shrieks of fright when they nearly colliding with a tree or stone.
And all the time, Zaide seemed to have one of his best days ever. At a certain moment, the light gray Lycandros was truly convinced that his dark brother drove like this on purpose, just to laugh at him being cautious and wise.
But thank the Father, after quite the awful ride, The Westbourne Spire appeared between the huge mountains and sky-high conifers, like a huge metal spike between the never-ending green treetops.
Kamura parked his 'cycle and crawled to a place where they were invisible to the enemy's eye, and then pulled out some binoculars, scanning the base thoroughly. The dark furred soldier stopped his cycle next to his Commander's, and hopped off accompanied by his younger half-brother. Orin frowned at his brother a moment, but the canine just flashed another cocky smirk. Classic Zaide.
ZAIDE - "Our targed is being held deep within the mountain complex, check your bags, there are experimental cloaking devices inside, put it on your arm and hit the button." Groping around his stuffed backpack, Zaide peered over his Commander's shoulder, watching tiny metallic figures roaming around the entrance; a massive blast door that was probably was immune to explosive blasts. "Synthetically modifying organisms is a war crime, our enemies even agreed on that... Looks like they just wanted to use that to get a head start..." He didn't even know the enemy that well, but this was probably one of the reasons they were considered bad guys.
"Wouldn't be the first time they violated the rules," Zaide shrugged while strapping the cloaking device to his arm. Wait, that was a rather hypocritical thing to say. After all, he broke rules for a living. Oh well.
"It's quite large, we get in past the door, get to the detention block and get the director, and bolt out of there. No intel on what happens here, but it's possible that the Blade Synths are built there, try and destroy it if possible." He could almost hear Orin internally yelling about that being the murder of innocents, but Blade Synths were abominations and their creators were anything but innocent. While the Synths were to be put out of their misery, the scientists would pay for their wrongdoing. A win-win situation.
Zaide hit the button on his cloaking device and in a split second, he became entirely invisible to the mortal eye. He smirked. Oh, he could have so much fun with cloakers like these back home. No-one would believe you if you said that you'd been robbed by an invisible man!
"Your visors allow you to see cloaked Teamates, keep that in mind." Right, visors. The dark furred Lycandors detached the visors from his helmet and put them on his muzzle, close to his bright yet invisible green eyes. He caught a glimpse of a shiny Commander Kamura walking down the slope, still concentrated even though they were undetectable. Unless..
"Sir, how sure can we be that the Blade Synths aren't equipped with some kind of infrared vision?" Cloaking devices were a new gadget on the market, but since the enemy was fond of being ahead of most, they probably already knew about the army utilizing them and responded by giving their GMO's heat vision.
Ember would turn around, looking toward him, ember had his visor on and could see them both "We have no solid intel, but the devices are highly classified, And besides, we will likely be moving past security cameras, we will need the gear either way," Ember would finally walk to the gate, there was a large Laser-Fence, with a small convoy of vehicles going in, Ember would signal the others to hop in the back, "Thank god it's only cargo..." The wolf would check the crates, perking his ears up "Armour…. Grenade launchers.... Metal claws... Grapple hooks...." Grapple hooks and grenade launchers weren't on Blade Synths, Ember wimpered lightly, if the enemy was modifying their Blade Synths even further, they could be facing much more lethal versons later down the road
ZAIDE - "We have no solid intel, but the devices are highly classified, And besides, we will likely be moving past security cameras, we will need the gear either way," Kamura said, looking through his hi-tech visor. Zaide nodded; nothing to worry about then.
The three lupine supersoldiers strolled down the stony hill, and as soon as they came close to a computer-controlled vehicle, they hopped on after Commander Kamura gave them a sign. Luckily enough, it just happened to be a cargotruck, carrying various weapons and armor-pieces up and down. The dark Lycandros hold on to a ramshackle grip the whole trip, which wasn't so easy. Many times his hands would slip on the cheap plastic and after he accidentally broke it in half, Zaide slipped a bit further into the vehicle and sat behind some heavy crates.
ORIN - They were getting closer and closer to the Spire, and at a certain moment, the massive blast doors opened and let in the cargo-hauling vehicle. Orin hid behind some crates, keeping his head low and his tail tucked between his legs. But they got past the security rather easily, which made him raise an eyebrow. This particular base was a classified and incredibly secured fortress. Westbourne was renowned for its strict security protocols back in before the Separatists conquered it. Maybe it all got sloppy thanks to these punks.
The vehicle parked in a large depot, where there was no mortal to be seen.
Ember would wait for the truck to stop, hoppinh out the back, the base was very large, Vehicles and Blade synths moving around to different stations, A large fighter aircraft was in the center of the hangar "Thats our escape route..." ember told the other wolves, they would make thier way past a few hallways to a room Next to the detention block hallway, How convenient, the door was titled 'Main Laboratory' A glass window was next to the door, and blade synths were seen walking out "We have time to see what's going on in there..., Should we?"
ORIN - As they hopped off the vehicle, Orin was astonished by the size of the base. Close to the depot, there was a large hall with all types of military vehicles moving and hovering about, worth more than a penthouse in Downtown Arcadia, back home. The light gray soldier pulled the visor over his eyes again and followed his comrades into the belly of the beast.
"Thats our escape route..." Commander Kamura told them after they sneaked past a large aircraft. Damn, another beautiful yet priceless craft. Sure, they had a job to do first, but Orin was already looking forward to boarding it. After a while, they walked past the laboratory, in which the Blade Synths were produced, by the looks of it. Ooh, spooky!
ZAIDE - "We have time to see what's going on in there... should we?" No. They shouldn't. But as Zaide was just a curious as the rest of his squad, he decided to keep his opinion to himself for a moment. He wanted to know exactly what kind of horrors these Synths had to endure, so he could come up with a matching method to punish their creators with.
He wanted them to suffer for their wrongdoing. The dark furred lupine scratched behind his ear, his claws touching a metal bit of skull. He would never forget what Boss Drakis did to him. Never.
"Sure," he grumbled in a low voice. "Lets have a look.."
(( That's a yes, sorry, I forgot to write that part, gimme a sec! ))
Ember would attach something to the door panel, and with a beep, it would open. Luckly nobody looked, the room was massive. Tubes with blue bubbling liquid were all along the walls, each containing a Blade synth, Operating tables lined the room as well, blood all over them,"Oh my god....." Even ember was intimidated. Yelping was heard from behind one of the walls, Then Electrical shocks, then... Silence, Large metallic claws and needles were seen on trays,The same ones in the blade synths It was clear this was how these things were made, Ember saw a few new ones, They had heavier armour, and grenade launchers, Several scientists were walking around, Obviously the ones who were doing these experiments, Ember would raise his rifle, aiming at one. "Should we terminate?"
ZAIDE - Commander Kamura placed the classic SOD-47 (Security Override Device) to door and after hearing the overly familiar and somewhat soothing beeps, the door opened. Zaide had used plenty of these in his day, made the occasional burglary assignments a cakewalk. Too bad the company that let those little beauties roll of the assembly-line went bankrupt three years ago, the damned SOD's were as hard to come by as gold.
But the Laboratory was tremendous, striking in its own way. The three lupines slowly tiptoed around.
"Oh my god..." the Commander uttered out of nowhere. Zaide looked his way, and his eyes were filled with terror and disgust. A row of unarmed Blade Synths were floating around in large tubes filled with some kind of healing fluid. They were unconscious, but their bloated, overly-muscled bodies were fully exposed, and truly horrific. What had happened to those poor Darkwolves?
ORIN - Cries of pain emerged from a locked room nearby, only to be silenced by violent electric noises. Oh All-Father. Jittery as he felt, Orin tried to focus on the scientist wandering around the high, sterilized tables, too busy to even notice them. Changes were that if they even dared to show their faces, they wouldn't even recognize them as enemy troops, but Orin wouldn't risk his tail to find out if that would happen. He stayed close to his brother, whose heartbeat had gone up a few pulses. The light gray Lycandros could feel the raw wrath buzzing from his body. His half-brother never told him what happened at his last job, the escort of Boss Drakis, a powerful cyborg crime-boss. But what he did know was that ever since something with needles, scalpels and people in lab coats were involved, his brother was on the verge on going on a rampage.
Suddenly, Commander Kamura raised his rifle and pointed it at some unwitting researchers who were just blabbing in their weird scientific language. "Should we terminate?" he asked the half-brothers.
Orin's ear twitched. He quickly crawled a little closer to the dark-furred Commander, and whispered before Zaide was given the chance: "No, Commander. We'll make them pay for their wrongdoing on the way back. If we kill them now, we'll set off the alarm for sure.."
Ember would wag his tail lightly he would see a small Datafile, ember would grab it"Absolutely horrible... Let's get to the detention block to get the director...." Ember would slowly walk to the door "And keep a lookout for explosives" Ember would slowly open the cell-block door and would see a few cells, a Heavy Blade Synth was in the middle of the room,Ember would attempt to sneak past, It heard him and would extend his claws "OUR COVERS BLOWN!!!" Ember would whip out his rifle, firing rapidly "GRAB THE DIRECTOR!!!!" Ember said, the shots did little damage, bouncing off the unit's heavier armour. It fired a Grenade at ember, who quickly dropped to the floor to avoid it
ORIN - While Commander Kamura stole something from one of the neat white drawers, Orin glared over his shoulder constantly, as if they were about to be jumped by a horde of Blade Synths.
"Absolutely horrible... let's get to the detention block to get the Director..." A solid plan. Still crouching, the soldier carefully dogged his officer's footsteps, and after mentioning something about explosives, he would open the door only to reveal...
Great All-Father, what was that thing?!
An enormous Blade Synth with jagged claws and rocket launchers attached to its shoulders. A creature too powerful and wicked to even be allowed to exist. A lupine from hell. "OUR COVER'S BLOWN!!! GRAB THE DIRECTOR!!!" Kamura yelled, pulling out his rifle and flooding the Blade Synth with pulses. Damn it!
Orin dashed for the decorated door leading to the General's Office, in which Director Krazal was held, if the intel was speaking the truth. He confidently kicked open the door, only to discover an empty room. Wait, no, they were getting away! The Lycandros clenched a fist. He wasn't as fast as Zaide was and-.. Wait, where was Zaide?!
ZAIDE - "GO TO HELL!!!" he roared, emptying his gun into the pathetic soft bodies of the scientists, who dropped at his feet like bugs. His anger made his vision blurry, a red hue was almost blocking his vision. But he went on, his heartbeat and the rushing of blood in his ears being his guide. The screams of the bastards echoed throughout the Laboratory, loud enough to drown out the firefight that was going on next door.
Then the last one dropped. Zaide threw his gun on a working table, rather harshly, then grabbed a corpse with his bare hands. His claws pressed against the lupine scientist's chest. He could rip him to shreds if he wanted. If-..
A loud, grumbling noise caught his attention. The green eyes glanced at a corner for a moment, only to notice that a naked Blade Synth crouched on the bloodstained floor. His eyes were submissive, but thankful. He'd lost his ability to talk, and yet Zaide recognized a sentient glow in his eyes. This Synth was half-way through the progress, it seemed, he only had to had his mind wiped before he could call himself an elite minion of these bastards.
"Ya wanna get your vengeance, huh?" Zaide snarled, stretching out a hand. Very softly, the Synth placed his cyborg-like paw against Zaide's, his malformed muzzle curling into a shy smile. "Fight at my side, brother."
Ember was knocked against the wall, stabbed through the chest with the blade, He yelped as he was thrown into the wall, Ember would pull out his pistol, firing shots into the synth "SEARCH THE OTHER CELL!!!!" Ember said weakly, Barely dodging a second blast, Ember hit one of its launcher barrels causing it to burst, Several plates of armour went flying off it, parts of it were exposed and could now be damaged
ZAIDE - Bet they never saw that coming. Zaide cheered out loud when the Synth bashed some mortals out of the way, making some wolf-like grunting noises while doing so. Since he teamed up with the abomination, getting rid of the people who blocked their path towards their comrades had been a picknick so far. Unarmed rookies were crushed like ants.
The Synth, whom he had nicknamed Squatter, made a reckless turn and ran into the corridor where Commander Kamura was firing at a Synth ever larger and uglier than the one he rode on.
"SEARCH THE OTHER CELL!!!!" Right then. Zaide softly kicked Squatter's ribs, after which the Synth trotted into one of the cells, still overwhelmed by the violence around him. Poor sod. Must've been an ordinary civilian back when he was... more lupine.
When the two of them burst into the cell Kamura told them to go to, Zaide saw that his half-brother was wrestling with a sinewy bodyguard of the General. Zaide hopped off, pushed his brother away from the enemy and knocked the guy with a simple punch against the temple.
ORIN - Wiping the blood from his lips, Orin couldn't help but snicker.
"You really need to give me that martial arts course once we get home," he panted. "I never knew making someone-.." The soldier stopped mid-sentence. A huge, disgusting creature was shouldering his brother, his innocent-looking mug resting on his shoulder. "What the hell, Zaide?!" he gasped.
His half-brother grinned. "Meet Squatter. This old monstrosity never got his brain wiped, so now he's basically a guy stuck in a mutants body." Its large claw poked Zaide's shoulder and pointed between its legs. "Oh... right.. a girl stuck in a mutants body.."
Ember would slowly get up, Injecting himself with a Medpack, he would quickly grab his pistol at the sight of the creature but would slowly lower his paw when he realized it wasn't hostile"All of this is absolutely horrible... It breaks almost every agreement we made with them..." Ember would slowly move to pet it "Hm...." Is there any shuttles in the hangar? We need to get off this rock ASAP" Ember would go to hit the door button "Grab the Asset if he's here... We need to get all of this intel back to draconis…. And h- SHE, Is our evidence..."
The Heavy synth was simply knocked down for a second, it would lunge at ember as he wen to open the door, Ember would bark and slash at it with his blade, the creature would block the attack,Ember would shoot it again with his rifle, hitting the other grenade launcher and damaging it's armour,Ember looked at squatter, Motioning for him to try and attack the Heavy synth on it's exposed neck
ORIN - Shortly after he carefully placed his hand on the Synth's head - she looked at him rather bored -, Kamura came in. "All of this is absolutely horrible... It breaks almost every agreement we made with them... Hm.... Is there any shuttles in the hangar? We need to get off this rock ASAP." Yeah. It wouldn't take long until the whole Spire was set off. But where on the planet was the Director?! "Grab the Asset if he's here... We need to get all of this intel back to Draconis…. And h- SHE, Is our evidence..." Zaide patted the Synth on its shoulder. Damn, he wasn't growing too close, now was he? Zaide was a disaster when it came down to ladies, and getting involved with a mutated girl wasn't exactly a smart thing to do, even for casanovas..
ZAIDE - So Squatter was a girl? Zaide wasn't sure how he should feel about that. Hmpf. Didn't matter anyway. They had to scoop up the Director and get outta here. And-..
"Good spirits, what an awful fight that was!" All-Father above! The clumsy old Director climbed from a pile of debris and shook his fur. "Ah, are you the men Highcom send me?" Good, they got the old fart. Time to move out.
"Let's not waste any time, Commander," Zaide said, "We have to get back to the aircraft you appointed to be our escape route." He scratched Squatter behind her ear, something she obviously hated, because as soon as his fingers touched the sensitive bit, she stomped her massive paw against his shoulder. Uff, way to strong for a girl..
Zaide fastened his backpack and held his rifle close to his chest, moving through the corridor in complete silence, like the shadowy figure he was.
"Careful... She may be hypersensitive... God knows what she may have went through" Ember would growl "Let's go...." The aircraft hangar was large, and they had to hide behind boxes to avoid teams that were rushing around, Luckly the doors were open and the ramp was down, ember would walk in and stab the pilot, moving the body out of the ship "Any of you know how to fly?" ember would be looking for Squatter and the director, ensuring they weren't left behind, Ember would sit down on the seat, Taking out two rations for the director and Squatter "You guys hungry?" Ember would be starting up the systems "Squatter, I know you are bound to be hungry due to the fact that you have likely been starved"
ZAIDE - "Careful... She may be hypersensitive... God knows what she may have went through. Let's go...." Squatter's eyes had grown a little dark with sorrow, but as soon as they moved out, she became her confident old self again. The four lupines made their way to the hangar, and after Commander Kamura boarded the aircraft and got rid of the pilot, the three others climbed into the craft as well.
Zaide actually thought the metal bird couldn't hold a creature as heavy as Squatter, but it proved him wrong. The giant female laid down and watched her male, non-mutated companions wander around the craft for a bit, before settling down in chairs or getting hold of handholds.
"Any of you know how to fly?" Kamura asked once everyone had found a place to sit or stand. Zaide made a low grunting noise. So their own commanding officer didn't know how to fly? He let go of his handle and sat down next to him, his green eyes running over all the buttons and handles. During the Horizon Heist he had flown a similar aircraft, though that one was a little outdated compared to this polished little bird.
"I think I'll manage," he said, full of confidence. With the simple flip of a switch, the powerful engine started running. And after making quite a rough ascension - some personnel who tried to stop them were knocked over or crushed -, the aircraft flew away from the hostile Spire.
ORIN - Zaide's wrists seemed weak, Orin thought as he handed out some of the rations to the Director and Squatter. Actually, he had never known that Zaide knew his way around aircrafts; the first time they met he expressed his fear of heights. Maybe something went wrong one day, and before that certain incident, his half-brother had learned the flyboy's way.
Well, as long as he didn't make them crash into a tree or something, Orin couldn't care less if he brother was anxious or not. He had been anxious all the time, and no-one seemed to have noticed that. Luckily, they finally rescued Director Krazal, so within now and a few hours, they would get paid and they could make their way off this planet.
Yet, Orin didn't feel like leaving yet. For one, he was excessively impressed with his Commander and wouldn't want to leave his side since he had so much to learn, and for another, just because they rescued a Lycandros envoy didn't mean that the war was over.
They couldn't just leave this world in turmoil, now could they?
