Rumors spread like a plague. Wheather its a good rumor or bad. Recently a rumor arose that an unknown civilian must have had enough. A local law enforcement captain had been slain. He was a cruel man. A tyrant even. Taxing the poor and arresting those who wouldn't and couldn't pay. Even small children have rotted in his prison for the simple mistake of not addressing him as "Sir". As sickening as it was noone dared stand against him. Silent as a whisper and as quick as the wind, an unknown being made its way to the chambers of this tyrant. This being made an example of the tyrant. Split open from the front and the rib cages seperated and spread like the wings of an angel the tyrant was mounted on a pedestal in front of his own home. People both cheered and cowered away in fear. Who could blame them? There was a potential maniac in town. It could have been anyone. Man, woman, or even child. That guy next to you could have done it. The woman screaming in terror could have even done it. All that was clear is that someone had enough of this man, no, this beast in human form.

"Saint or Sinner?" Read the local news later that day. Even the town priest praised this potential messenger of the Gods as did the demonic praised the potential messenger of death.

Through this story The Shade will be introduced and near the end maybe even unmasked. This is to be an RP based on the writing skill of the RPers rather than based on stats. Its in a medieval setting. No modern day or futuristic weapons or items, please. Guns are ok as long as they fit the time frame. One shot pistols and rifles.

Corvina looked at the body and shuddered. No one had gotten around to taking the captain's body down from the pedestal. Some were starting to say the body was cursed, and it certainly seemed like it, for not even the crows had come near his body. The man had been a monster and he deserved his death, but it was disturbing to see what should be his insides displayed like the wares of a butcher. She fought the urge to throw up like some others had, and still were. Mothers had already left with their children to try to shield the grotesque sight from their eyes.

Corvina overheard a group of men talking in hushed tones about the killer. She recognized them as Will, the banker; Richard, a horse carraige driver; and James, a somewhat skilled blacksmith.

"I'd bet it was Walter, he's always been rather suspicious and he lives almost out of town. You know how crazy he is." said James.

"He shoulda been locked up years ago. Old age has rotted his brains to no better than carrion mush." agreed Richard.

"But that's the problem right there." said Will. "Walter's arthritus wouldn't have allowed him to move fast enough to do this to the captain and he's not strong enough to overpower him either. No, the killer would've been very sneaky, quick, or strong to have been able to do this."

Then who was it? Corvina wondered this wasn't sure she wanted to know. She clenched her hands in her blue cotton dress. They were all in possible danger with this killer on the loose. She had to at least try to find him.

[OOC Corvina has the ability to disappear and I was wondering if that would be ok to use in this?]

"This is disgusting... Why here in front the children? Why now?"

The energetic Matilda questioned as she passed by the grotesque scene. She was headed for her uncle's house to start her day of forging. For a small female, she actually had a bit of power behind the swing of the hammer. She would notice Corvina and walk toward her.

"You don't seem to feel comfortable here. Would you like me to walk you away? I'm headed just there to my Uncle Charlie's. I have to finish my sword today."

OOC: Abilities like that are encouraged. I love adding spice to the RP. And forgive my short post. I'm with my friends atm.

Corvina shook her head. "No it's ok. It would've been fine to have him killed in his rooms or somewhere less..open. Not everyone can handle this type of stuff." She remembered the people unable to keep a hold on their stomachs. "Would you mind if I came with you? I could do with a distraction from...this." She gestured towards the body. "I won't be much trouble and I don't want to go back to my house alone. Everything just seems so much more sinister." Corvina had just arrived in town about a month ago, and she was just starting to get settled in when this happened. She shook her head to herself.

[OOC lol it's ok. I usually don't write responses that long but I guess I was inspired or somthing ]

"I see no problem with that. You're new here, aren't you? My name is Matilda. I'm an apprentice black smith."

Matilda looked back at the dead captain and shook her head. As she turned back toward Corvina a pale color filled her face. Her head became dizzy for a moment, but she tried to play it off.

"Does it seem warm to you? Its warm to me."

She seemed to show signs of sickness. But she was too stubborn to just put her work down over a little bit of sweat.

Corvina frowned when Matilda paled. "No... It actually seems a little cool to me. Are you ok?" First a murder and now a possible break out of sickness. What was going on in this town?

"We should probably get you inside somewhere. You look like you're going to pass out."

Matilda nodded and walked toward her uncle's. She unlocked his door to find strange foot steps inside of the house. They were about the size of an average male's foot prints. Upon further investigation they looked a lot like her uncle's prints, but it appeared as if they were covered in mud. This was strange for her uncle being that he was a very neat and tidy type of person. Matilda looked around but there was no sign of intrusion. The only thing was her blade was missing.

"... This is just perfect. Where is my damned sword at? Its missing from its display mount... Now I really don't feel very well."

Matilda showed Corvina to a chair and offered her a cup of tea.

Corvina took the tea and thanked Matilda. "Where's your uncle? It looks like he's been here sometime recently." She motioned toward the foot prints. "And I'm sorry about your sword, it must've taken you a long time to make it and you seem rather proud of it."

Could it be that Matilda's uncle was the killer? A sword would definitely have been able to do the job and it looked as if he'd been out lately. That didn't quite seem right though... Surely the killer would have been wise enough to cover his tracks?

"It's unlike him to leave without telling me or at least leaving a note. I thinknit would be wise if we stay here and wait for him. At least that way neither of us have to see what happened and we won't have to deal with the smell. And maybe I should clean up this mess before he returns. Hell will break lose if he sees this mess..."

Matilda went toward the kitchen to get the mop. Upon returning she noticed a slight difference in the prints. The right prints looked as if the foot of whoever left them curved in as if the foot had been injured.

"Here, I'll help you." Corvina offered. She noticed the same thing Matilda had as she was cleaning up the prints. If her uncle had been the killer, then the captain had put up a fight and managed to hurt his killer. No surprise there though, he'd been a known fighter. More and more possible evidence was piling up against Matilda's uncle. Corvina glanced at her out of the corner of her eye. Did she see it too?

"Oh, thank you. I really appreciate it. But I'm beginning to think we should leave tjis for now. I don't like how things are looking but this is evidence. Maybe I should look into this. I really hate to ask but can I ask a favor of you?"

Matilda had a concerned look on her face. She was also frightened a bit to think it could be her uncle.

"Of course." Corvina said. Matilda was probably the closest thing to a friend she had in this town. "What do you need?" She could tell Matilda was worried. Who wouldn't be when it seemed more and more likely that your own uncle was a killer?

"I want you to come with me. I believe I know where he might be. He sometimes visits a local cave and stays there for hours at a time. If he did this I bet he would be hiding there. I just don't.want to place you in harm's way."

She would open a secret latch at the bottom of the cupboard and take out two daggers. She handed one yo Corvina and strapped the other one to her own leg just above her left knee for easy access.

"I crafted these myself. I know they're durable. And sharp to boot. So please be careful not to accidentally cut yourself."

Corvina carefully took the knife. "Yeah, I'll go with you. Your uncle might not freak out if he just sees you though. He knows you, but not me and he might do something dangerous if he sees a stranger with you. So I'll just go in like this." Corvina's body disappeared from view and not a trace was left of her. She reappeared again. "It takes a bit of energy to do this though so I'll wait until we get closer to the cave to use it."

Matilda was shocked to learn that Corvina could go invisible. She giggled and nodded.

"That is a very useful talent. I'm glad that you trust me to know that you can do that. Does anyone else know about it?"

Matilda grabbed a small pouch filled with dust. The only trick she knew was a simple fire technique using gunpowder and fire salts. Simply mixing them and throwing them would cause a small explosion. Enough to cause a little damage.

Corvina laughed with her. "No, I haven't really gotten to know anyone else here very well, but I figured it would help us now and you needed to know." She watched Matilda grab the pouch and wondered what was in it.

"Do you need anything else before we go? I'm ready as I'll ever be."

"That's everything I need, I believe. This pouch is for an emergency. Hopefully I won't have to use it."

She locked up as they headed out the door. The cave was right outside the city. Maybe a fifteen minute walk. About the biggest threat would be a wolf or two if any.

"Hopefully you won't have to use that dagger either. I'm gald that you can trust me enough. Some people in this city are very shadey. So just be careful until you get to know them."

Corvina frowned. This town was getting more and more cheery by the moment! "Note taken."

She followed Matilda out the door and followed her as she lead towards the cave. "I'll disappear as soon as we reach the mouth of the cave. I'll be right behind you until we find your uncle. Then I'll sneak around to him into a position to, restrain him if things get...messy."

"That is a good idea. I just hope it doesn't back fire."

Matilda led Corvina through the field outside of town to the cave. It was lit up in the distance by what looked like candle light.

"Before we proceed make sure you're ready. I don't know how he will react. I've come here before him be in a bad mood and pretty much got yelled at. Other times he's not like that."

Corvina nodded. "Ok, I'll just stay hidden and stay quiet. Your uncle is a normal human isn't he?" Corvina had had a couple instances with creatures that weren't human and could sense her, even if they couldn't see her.
