That1Gurly

This little thread is here so you can vent about all the things that people do in role play that you absolutely HATE

Here’s some of mine:
1.When people ignore you because of they don’t like your ideas, characters, or you in general, like come on man, if you don’t like what I said, don’t ghost me!
2. When people make a role play all about them (this happens mostly with newer role players)
3. (My biggest peeve) when people have a Mary Sue character and tries to defend them. Like HONEY ARE U OK DO U NOT KNOW HOW PEOPLE LIVE LIKE WE ARE NOT PERFECT OK HON?

(That’s a few of mine, list your’s below!)

I normally dislike these things, but I would like to get a few things that rub me wrong in RP.

1. RP Snobs and toxicity. Look. No one cares who is the better so and so. It isn't a contest to show who has the bigger willie. It's pretty much saying "WELL MY DOG CAN DO A TRICK AND MAKE A CAKE! WHAT CAN YOURS DO?!" Some of these people may lower your self esteem and make you feel bad.

2. All talk and no show. This I have seen on Facebook where people brag that they can write well or say they can do a character justice. Don't tell, show us.

3. Less common, but post or posting style theft. I have had someone take my post styles before for their Roleplays.

4. Smut, Fetish pester people. I don't do these. I have seen minors pester people for these RPs and then play a pity party when they are denied.

I could have more, but I don't feel like it.

1: Controlling others RP-er character actions, I mean when you have mind control abilities it's not bad.
But controlling other character without said ability or talking about with other rp-er before, IS WORST.

2: Forcing other character to like XY character, I don't need to describe it.

3: Making every family member/ friends you name it go against XY character for no apparent reason.
*Sigh* Mary sue to nth force.
o People with excessive amounts of trigger warnings. Now don't get me wrong; I perfectly understand that people may have issues with all kinds of things and feel uncomfortable with certain themes for personal reasons (even I do), and I do think I'm a considerate and kind person, but when sensitive snowflakes list a million things they don't want me to do or fifty words they don't want me to use prior to engaging in roleplay with me, they probably don't realize it puts a lot of pressure on me. It holds back my roleplaying, because I can't type freely nor write my characters uncensored.

o People who very clearly won't enjoy roleplaying with me, that decide to approach me anyway.

o People why try to coax me into doing things I don't like or enjoy, or feel uncomfortable with. I actually get offended by that. If you like tea, I won't force coffee down your throat!

Those two I had encountered allot in my times in RP. That also includes forcing XY character to do something against their own will. It consider it rude. Or something such as "X shoves a pill in Y's mouth and they swallow it" is what I have seen in RPs.

I can understand if it was by accident by rookie Rpers, since they are still learning.
Where do i start.... *inhales* Badly written edge lord characters that become all powerful at age of 10 despise being normal human beings. God modders, badly written deity characters "I am [insert most common name here] God of this and that!". That if male and female characters rolepalys there must be romance/erotica/smut. People that contact you first and goes "So got any ideas?", People that sends you similar to your starter/reply, sensitive writers that can't deal with mean or rude character, characters that make no sense like "I am wolf, dragon, elf, grim reaper hybrid." like i get it creativity have no limits but seriously! All lesbian characters is or must like futa stuff, people who try control your character for dumb purposes like smut, people who pick fight but don't know fighting rp rules.

Even if there is much more i feel like i better stop.
One word personalities. I value original character personalities, and when OCs have 1-3 words as their personality and PM me for a role play it greatly discourages me from writing with them. My favorite part of roleplaying is probably making the character, and when others go into very little detail it bothers me.

People who get offended when you give advice. I can understand getting upset if someone criticized your OC without prompting, but when someone asks for advice or character reviews expects to be showered in compliments it annoys me. If they want pure compliments don't ask for critiques.

Unrealistic characters who use "creativity as their excuse. randomness doesn't equal creativity, and there's a reason that good books have some realism to them. Or when in roleplays they make something out of character happen and say "I just was having fun" as the excuse, especially when it's harmful to others characters.
When people act like violent characters are cool. Especially their own. Having no self control is NOT a good thing, and doesn't make you win the argument - it proves you lost.
When people think characters shouldn't have flaws because that will encourage others to act that way. If the readers are that easily influenced they shouldn't be reading anything at all.
When characters insult others mentally/walk away "before ur OC can reply". Mental insults are annoying because my character can't reply to them and it often seems like a cowardly thing to do. I'm fine with writing out character thoughts but they can keep excessive insults to themselves (I don't have a problem with occasional negative thoughts.) And if they did walk away, my character could still reply. They'd have to run or already be near a door, and again, it's a cheap way to seem like they won an argument.

I totally agree with the first two, the third one I had never experienced with someone

Most of those are ones that make me give up on humanity
When people start getting all touchy and feel and sexual before an rp starts, and do it in this weird ooc/IC way. I also really hate it when people do stuff like trap my character in another universe or make my posts invalid/useless. ANOTHER thing....Is writing in second person perspective! That drives ME INSANE! But there’s like one or two people I’ll let it slide for.

Not having much description or detail to work with. I get it, and my brain isn’t always allowing me to be my most detailed. But come on!

Probably more, but that’s about it.
Oh boy, here we go. Now I'm usually a pretty tolerant Rp'er, and I put up with quite a bit more than many will, but I still get peeved by quite a few things.

First off, people who PM out of nowhere, and ask for an rp, and then expect you to plan it all out, or they have that "I don't care, I do whatever." kinda attitude. Sorry, but it feels like someone came to my house wanting cookies, and expecting me to go and buy the ingredients, and bake for them. If you PM someone for an RP, have an idea of what you want to do, or at very least a character you like.

Secondly, characters that are immune to pain for no reason. Yes I get it, many characters have bad upbringings, and had to put up with a fair amount of physical abuse. But seriously, don't tell me you get a finger chopped off, and just shrug it off. That is going to hurt like it or not, don't care how badly you got beat as a kid.

Thirdly, when you set up an Rp with a nice, plump opening, and the other player responds with a sparse few sentences. Let me tell you how mad it makes me. You spend a good bit of your time setting the tone, atmosphere, introducing characters, and opening up the world for your partner to join, and they slap a flippant response on the page. It's a huge writing turn off.

Lastly, Overpowered characters with a boatload of strengths, and one (or no) completely exploitable weakness. For example, don't tell me your character is a Demi God with elemental abilities that don't drain energy, super speed, expertise with all weaponry, and their only weakness is a black diamond found at the center of the earth. It's not fun, and it's not original. This is Roleplay, not One Punch Man.
Skrifa

Oof...I like to think that I'm flexible, and I can adapt to whatever, but sometimes, there's things I just can't do.

1. Excessively OP characters with no limits whatsoever. Everyone is flawed. No one is perfect. And I guarantee you, no one can doge strikes from three different swords or Matrix their way out of a slew of bullets. (Unless, of course, you're in the Matrix.) But seriously! Strong is getting mundane! Make your characters flawed. Weakness isn't a bad thing. Sure, they can be good at something, but they're not an absolute god.

2. Poor grammar. I'm an intern for a magazine, and I know just how important it is. Reading anything with little to no punctuation sets my teeth on edge. And writing like this Just absolutely is out of the question Like how the heck am I supposed to read this?! Just...why? Maybe you can read it, but I can't - which means I'm seriously going to struggle getting back to you.

3. When someone. Controls. Another. Person's. Character. YOU HAVE YOUR OWN CHARACTER. KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF MINE.

4. People who ignore the posts ahead of them in groups and post their own thing that is completely off and away from what had taken place before them. I understand that you want your character to stand out, but don't post just to post and make it all about you.

5. Strange hybrids. I can understand a couple, but, (and I'm going off of something I saw in a LotR fanfic), c'mon, canonically, there is no such thing as a Dwarf-Elven hybrid. Kudos to you for creativity, but that just doesn't make sense. Same goes for dragon-sphinx-jedi thingamajig, idk. Just super out of the blue hybrids irk me for some reason.

6. Going into an RP and expecting my character to instantly fall in love with yours. Nope. I will make it clear to you if I do want there to be a relationship - either in character or OOC. But it will be very clear.

7. Very deep character profiles, but when you get into the writing, it's suddenly not the same writing you saw.
Everyone else has posted really good stuff that bothers me too, so I won't repeat it. I've got something else to be salty about right now.

Potentially unpopular opinion about smut RP coming through! (Don't worry, nothing explicit in here.)
I don't like it when RPers treat RP like it's only there for their own sexual gratification. Non-RPers mistaking RP for some weird sex thing I can understand even though it ticks me off, but it's because of smut-only RPers that people think that way. And there's so much more to RP than smut! Even worse is when it's explicitly not smut but you can tell the other person is somehow getting something sexual out of it OOC, which is just...no.

In a similar vein, I can't stand it when people will only RP with characters (or worse, players) of a certain gender. Especially when they extend that preference to RP where gender should have no relevance whatsoever (i.e. non-smut RP). It makes me suspicious that the above scenario of someone getting off on something that isn't meant to be sexual is going on.

I get it, I get it, not everyone is asexual like I am, and I have nothing against people who do smut or who have kinks (so long as they aren't harmful), but calm down, people! RP isn't inherently sexual and I don't think it should be approached that way.

God I feel this one so hard.....

You're not as alone in this as you think, and that's all I'm going to say on it. 👀
OOC:
-When someone feels personally entitled to RP with me after I already said no, because our styles are too different, or for any other reason. No one is entitled to someone else's time, and there are thousands if not millions of people to RP with online besides me. You can definitely find someone else who would enjoy RPing with you.

-When people think ghosting is the worst possible affront a human being could make. You're responsible for your own happiness, and this is just a hobby. If someone felt that you might react badly to rejection and decided to just stop talking to you, you might want to assess how you act. Plus, you never know what someone has going on in their real life that would cause them to stop replying, it might not have anything to do with you at all.

IC:
-When someone ignores really important things about my character, such as their powers, or how they look (calling a character handsome when I've gone out of my way to explain they are Not Very Good Looking and self conscious about it)
-When someone writes way too much dialogue in one post, starting multiple lines of questioning ,causing a completely unnatural 'conversation' that is confusing and could never happen in real life
-When someone writes an entire speech out for their character, but my OC would have interrupted them like halfway through, and I'm stuck having my brash character sitting there listening like it's story time
-When someone 'stalls' the RP by sending short lines that contain basically no actions or dialogue whatsoever
-On that last point, when someone sends 3+ posts in a row that essentially say the exact same thing, repeat information that doesn't need to be there (filler), and have their character basically just staring at mine while I have to do everything. Without fail I will end an RP right there if someone does that, lmao.
I'm going to get myself into trouble here I just know it.

WOMEN RPERS WITH EPIC CHARACTERS WHO WILL ONLY RP WITH GUYS
Like dang...I'm not trying to bed you. I just wanna be your friend because I initially thought you'd be cool? Why won't you give me a chance?!!!...? :'(
(On the flipside, when a cool female rper messages me and wants to write with me...we're besties now. I'm sorry, that's just how it works.)

People who constantly make every storyline all about them.
You're in a rp relationship with their IC uncle and haven't even initiated an rp with them specifically, but suddenly said uncle and you are obligated into a deeply psychological thread on how your two characters shagging makes this other character you haven't even written with FEEL. You have a war and suddenly(even though their character is a three week old kitten) they're angry they weren't invited to join. Thankfully I haven't seen stuff like this here!

Trying to initiate rp with someone and they will rp with everyone in your rp family, quite purposefully, but won't with you.
This actually happened to a friend of mine. And watching the anxiety and heartbreak that entire collective of people caused one anonymous person on the internet, I never wanna see that crud again.
IC: Maidens in Distress
those, fragile, characterless, pale female characters who clearly only exist because the player needs a vessel to get into the pants of their favoured avatar.
Where the only story suggestion is that your character (I tend to be the male one in those cenarious 0o) saves her in order to fall endlessly in love, instantly and out of nowhere... -.- - Really?!

Blatherers
Blatherers I tend to call those who just for the sake of filling space send you leeeeengthy paragraphs which basically contain nothing useful - who just sit or stand there or do any other petty action without really contributing to the storyline yet they need approx. 5 word-pages by repeating themselves over and over... - e.g. I once had one person mounting a horse in novella style (which could surely have been fun... if well done... but it wasn´t.... - instead I got the action explained over and over again from each possible angle 0o)
Mostly it´s those too, who pride themselves to only and without exception write novella-style and kick you when you tell them that your replies will greatly vary in length 0o...

Ignoramuses
Those who really manage to ignore really basic, important stuff - like abilites/handicaps of your character, the time of the day, the weather... - I mean what is so hard to pay at least a little bit of attention to get an idea if it´s dark, raining... etc. - To me that is a sign that my replies are not worth reading and as a result that our RP is not really appreaciated and wanted.

OC:One-word-storyline/verse-discussions
When you try to create an original setting and story - send walls of texts with ideas and describtions ... and all you get back is "fine with me" - Nope! That is NOT a discussion, not a common brainstorming, that´s just plain lazy and rude disinterst from the other one... - and by now will lead to me imediately leaving this discussion
  • Forcing my characters to like yours. Sorry dude, even through aggressive body language, long paragraphs of inner monologue lamenting why my character doesn’t like yours, or through guilt trip, my character will still friggin hate your character because he killed my character’s friend right in front of him so yeah.
  • People who start roleplays with only one line, about their character walking. Just that. Walking One line. As a RP starter. I dread to stay, because in my experience, the first post is usually the longest either due to a desire to impress the other roleplayer or even to set down the setting and lore and I really don’t want to stick around if you are going with that poor reply every time.
  • People who are too lazy to communicate OOC. Like, dude, no amount of staring is going to make my character come down from his carriage when your character is literally hidden in a crowd. And I am not going to throw away common sense just for them to meet, just no.
  • People who ignore the other roleplayer and writes a story of their own, about their own character, and have I mentioned on their own? Yeah.
  • People who reply in dialogues when they have explicitly said that they would reply in paragraphs.

No, this does not look like a paragraph to me.

    A: Hey

A: It is totally not weird talking to myself without any action and rambling on about how my family is all dead and how I was kept as a slave for the last three years even though we just met.

    A: Not at all.
  • People who control the other’s character. Say, if your character is an illusionist and you write something along the lines of ‘you would see ... ...’ then it is totally fine but if you write some bs like ‘you would be amazed at their strange eyes’ then no, no. And that is still doable, you can just dismiss it and go ‘eh’, but when the other guy blatantly, unashamedly controls your character, what they do and what they feel then boy, I am usually very very accepting in terms of RP and have a hard time denying others but if anyone does that to my character again, I am immediately out.
  • When people give short, flippant replies when you wrote them a really nice, good starter. That, pisses me off and any excitement for that roleplay evaporates away that instant I see that sad, sad reply. There is no bigger turn off for me...perhaps other than one of those mad, ridiculously OP and god-like character with cat ears, a pair of dragon wings and the tail of a fox with ‘crimson eyes, with a silt in the middle with specks of gold and green scattered in them’ that is definitely created by a chunnibyou.

So yep, that’s all that I can think of right now haha

Bro your last paragraph was basically exactly what one of mine said. I'm glad I'm not the only one ^-^
