Talya, a ward of the god of war, Ares, had her authority as chateau of Lord Ares home taken by his new girlfriend. This happens every now and then and generally they are all very insistent that she stay and help them win over the heart of her gardian but this one was quite different. A daughter of Zeus herself she pulled up an enormous amount of power and literally threw her out of the house. Being as hot headed as she is she went straight to Ares to protest the way she had been treated only to find the woman crying to him about how mean Talya had been to her. Talya had burst into the room yelling giving her the perfect opportunity to cower and sob.
"Sister, what have you done?"
"Me? I came here to protest to the way your new Lady treated me."
"I didn't do anything you didn't deserve," she sobbed from behind the desk.
"You stay out of this," Talya shouted at her.
"You will NOT shout at my fiance."
"Then I shall shout at you." And so ensued a argument between a god and goddess of war.
Anger and blood lust stirred up in all the worlds and all the realms with such force. Talya was irritated at the constant sobbing of the woman standing there but found some satisfaction when she became quiet and actually retreated to the back of the room.
As the story goes, the woman had claimed Talya had been spiteful in giving up her position. She had the servants put nasty things from the sewer under her bed, pored ink on many of her best clothes, and threatened her life. She also had it on good authority from the head servant that this was not the first time she had done this to a new 'temporary lady' of the house.
This was of course preposterous as Talya shouted her innocence to Ares. She had never been anything but kind to any guest or lady he ever brought into his home.
After a while Talya started to get this feeling that she should stop but she couldn't give ground just yet. She nearly had this one. She could see that Ares was having the same feeling but he too chose to fight on. The clock ticked louder. No less than fifteen seconds later a flash of lighting and a crash of thunder flashed.
"ENOUGH," boomed Zeus' mighty voice. They both fell silent. "Any more of this and you two will cause the world to tear itself apart."
Talya, who wasn't the daughter of Zeus but the illigitimate daughter of some goddess and a rather angry human man, was not permitted to speak to Zeus unless directly allowed too since that incident with his horse. Ares approached.
"Father, I am sorry."
"You should be. We are enjoying a time of peace as declared by me. You and her have endangered the delicate balance we have worked so hard to put in place. Explain yourselves."
"I can, father," it was her.
"You may speak, favored daughter Darshauna," so she had a name.
"I was wronged by the Lord Ares Ward, Talya, and had her sent away as is my right as Chateau."
"Then what is the problem?" Zeus asked.
"Talya claims she is innocent of these accusations."
"Obviously you don't believe you or you would not be arguing," Zeus told Ares.
"Darshauna makes a convincing case," Ares said. He seemed really unsure and that hurt Talya's feelings.
"And did she bring any convincing evidence?"
"No."
"Then do you let the decisions of the Lady stand?"
Ares gave it some thought. Both he and Talya knew that if Ares through him out she would no longer be welcome. Although it was obvious she had the blood of the gods none would claim her as their own and she could not prove it. Ares took her in and hoped that she might become his but Zeus had forbidden it. The fights they could have would tear down the very foundations of civilizations. As roommates it wasn't so bad. She had been living ageless in his home for time she hadn't cared to count. If Ares would not have her she would no longer be welcome on Olympus.
He wasn't going to do it, he was going to let her stay but Darshauna did something. Talya saw it.
"Yes, I will let the Lady's decision stand."

This was completely unfair. Yesterday her greatest friend had been tricked into throwing her back into the human world without so much as a clue as to what she was to do now. As Ares didn't seem to care enough to see that she could at least make it through the first day in this place Zeus dropped her off. The sun beat down upon her all day as she walked the desolate wasteland and huddled in a small cave during the freezing night. After another whole day of marching she reached what looked to be an inn. She was in desperate need of food and water and hoped that someone would have pity on her. She opened the front door and stepped in.
It was empty. She looked around and called out, "Hello," suddenly realizing that her voice had become hoarse and quiet. There was no reply. The place smelled clean and not like it had been long deserted. She thought she ought to wait until some one came but she could hear the distinct drip of water. She went behind the counter and into the back and there she found a kitchen with a pump. The water was delicious, though probably just to her, and she drank her fill. She found dried meats and fruits, a warm pie on the window sill, and several kegs of ale. Her stomach growled and she told herself she would only eat a little but by the time she realized she should stop she was completely satisfied.
No she was shamed. She had broken in and stolen from what appeared to be good people. To pay them back she started cleaning and would do that until someone came.

Night fell and still no one came. Talya had no idea what to do except take of the home as though it were her own. She searched high and low through the entire inn and found no one. It was like anyone who lived here just vanished though there was no evidence of any recent guests either. Perhaps they were pulled away by someone to whom they had owed a great debt, but that couldn't be right. Any one like that would have looted this place for anything of value and there were plenty of things around that at least looked valuable. She decided that wondering what had happened here was a waste of time, she wouldn't know until they returned but as night fell she fell asleep on the sofa where she was sitting and waiting.
In the distance, what appeared to be a bird was flying towards the building Talya was. As it got closer, one could see it was not a bird, but a girl with wings black as night and a white cloth covering her eyes. She unerringly landed in front of the door and folded her wings behind her back. She reached out, opened the door and went inside. She moved without hitting anything, with the ease of practice. When she was in the middle of the room she froze. Something felt off, as if someone had been here since she'd left. "Who's there?" She called as she reached for her dagger.
Talya was startled awake but the sudden noise in the room. She sat up quickly and answered, "Just a weary traveler, Ma'am. My name is Talya.?
"I'm Isobel." She put the dagger away, but stayed on her guard. "How long have you been here?"
"Since late this morning. I didn't mean to intrude but I was going to die out there," She told the girl. It was dark so she didn't move from where she was standing for fear of startling her into slicing her head off or something. Do normal people do that, she wondered.
"You must've come soon after I left then..." She still stayed on her guard, even though she went to sit down on a chair across from Talya. She'd learned the hard way not to be so trusting with people. "Well, you're welcome here for as long as you want. The people that owned this place before are gone, left before I got here." She absentmindedly picked at a string in the chair. She looked in Talya's general direction as she talked, though she couldn't see her and the cloth over her eyes might have made her a bit unsettling to talk to.
"Oh, I see," she said. "Thank you." She wasn't really sure what to do now. She had expected either owners or people looking to stay, not another squatter like herself. Maybe they could be friends but she didn't want to share her story just yet. She needed people she could really trust in her cause against this Darshauna.
Isobel stood up and maneuvered through the room to the kitchen, her wings rustling behind her. Talya was holding something back, but didn't we all have our secrets? "Are you hungry?" She called as she started a fire in the woodstove and brought out a pot from one of the cupboards. She filled it with water and waited for it to boil while she gathered other ingredients for a soup. She moved through the kitchen with a strange kind of grace.
She had been holding off on eating food that didn't belong to her so she was quite hungry, "Yes, thank you. This might sound like an odd question but can you tell me where I am?" she needed to know what the world was like before she went trying to challenge the gods.
"Yeah, we're in the European countryside. The closest town is fifty miles that way," She pointed with a wooden spoon in a south-eastern direction. "called Bibury. It's a nice little town. I overheard some people say it was quite beautiful." Isobel said the last part almost wistfully. She went back to cooking the soup.
"Right," country side was a term she recognized but the rest... "What is a 'European'?"
"Something that describes Europe I guess. You know, the continent? I'd say we're in England but I can't exactly read signs." She smiled slightly as she ladled the soup into two bowls. She got two spoons and stuck them in the bowls, one arm with the bowl outstretched in Talya's direction.
Talya took the bowl and told the girl thank you. She sipped it quietly while she thought. She had been told in the cruel voice of Zeus that she would return to the world more than a thousand years after she had been there last. How much did worlds usually change in a thousand years? She had never listened when they used to try and teach her things so she had no idea. "What do you know about the gods?"
Isobel almost choked on her soup. "Gods? Which ones? There's so many religions out there... Well whether there are gods or not, they're doing a sucky job." Her wings fluttered slightly as she remembered her past. "Who knows though, maybe I'm an angel" She joked.
"Don't you know what you are?" Talya asked and quickly added, "I'm sorry, that was a terribly rude thing of me to say." She thought about the way Isobel had been acting and the way she had said things and said, "If you don't mind me asking, are you different from other people?"
Isobel sighed. "Well I don't exactly remember. All I know is I've had these wings for as long as I can remember. I wasn't always blind though... These wings definitely separate me from others though. Some call me and angel, others call me a demon. " She shrugged. It didn't really matter to her what they thought she was.
"Perhaps they are a gift from Zeus, lord of the sky and the great eagle, from Nike, the winged goddess of victory," Talya suggested passionately, "or even from Thantos. Whatever the case my be I think they are wonerful."
