IC Intro
"Twas after the Great Flight, that Man found a new home in the stars. A globe of brown, spinnin' alone in the vast, twinkling aether. In time, our ships anchored on this world. Our cities grew up around them. Tall, impressive and proud; each believing that all others must join their banners together, as to bond mankind tightly -- Centrally -- together. Too tightly for some, who felt the grip of the banners as heavy as iron shackles.

Enter the Grit Engagements; where brother and sister stood apart as Independents or Centralist And when the Reaper had taken its pound of flesh, it saw the Indies leave their city-ships to the Cent's. They drifted to the Frontier, deep in the wild country of Dust. Out there people struggle to make ends meet. Gettin’ by on the barest of means. But they’re free. There they made settlements, small etchings of “civilization” atwixt the desolate sands; oases’ that offer some respite to the weary traveller. 'Course 'taint easy pickings nowhere. Even now in the largest Central's, poverty and squalor are the only things that seem plentiful to be provided; kept at bay only day to day.

Like during the Great Flight that brought Mankind to this dirty diamond in the sky, those purely kind, weak of heart, and the meek in soul, will find themselves hardened or dead. For only those with vision, a big iron and selfish gumption, will mold opportunity and fortune out of the dust"


OOC Synopsis
The story of Dust takes place in an alternate timeline, when a series of events causes widespread devastation and unrest on Earth during the Victorian age. Fortunately space travel is a viable method of escaping the planet! Devised sometime in the mid- or late- 1800s by the minds of the great thinkers of the time. Countless ships were built, by all manner of nations, organizations and entrepreneurs. Together, they will carry hundreds of thousands of people to the furthest reaches of the stars. This is the story of a few characters, and their descendents, aboard one of these ship flotillas that managed to find landfall on the world of Dust.


Plot Ideas

Dust: Road to Quintessence is an adventure that preludes the setting of Dust, and is generally my start-point of choice for players. This takes place in an alternate 1861, when a series of events causes widespread devastation and unrest on Earth during the Victorian age. Fortunately space travel is a viable method of escaping the planet! Devised sometime in the mid- or late- 1800s by the great minds of the time, player characters will come together as a contract team pulled from the four corners of the globe by the great and powerful Trust. A shadowy group in the deep-state that want to be the first to develop the proof-of-concept rocket that will get Man into space.

A varied set of locations will be available to travel at will, though the main sandbox will be 19th century North America. Non-fictional NPCs and events will be involved in many of the sub-plots that populate the adventures you'll have. Chiefly, the American Civil War, German Unification, Japan's Meji Restoration and the Rise of International Socialism. All of this will influence and be influenced by your characters ability to accomplish the task set before them.

If you like that, or don't, there are also fictional events that will give a rise to every sci-fi and steampunk willy: Ever wanted to vaporize an approaching army with a heliograph? Or rely on a gunpowder rockets the size of battleships to leave the atmosphere? Maybe thats too passe; Your the type to dip your Analytical Difference Engine in the mercury-powered solar boilers! Don't even know what that means? Don't be such a cog muffler, and find out for yourself in a timeline where the Earth is dying from a cataclysmic natural disaster, and the only way to win is to GTFO yesterday.

Primarily Alternate History, Hard Science Fiction, Wild Weird Western and Steampunk. May touch on Hurt/Feels, Romance-lite, Psychological-Mystical Thriller
