Long ago, a man flees his hometown as he's accused of selling fake potions. He wanders the plains, the hill and valleys, the woods and the flowers for days. He's starving, surviving off of random plants he finds in the woods. As he steps onto a hill to die on, he finds a meadow of purple flowers. Shaleweeds. He runs to the meadow, taking out empty potion bottles and filling them with as much Shale as he can find. That man, named Percival Nortan, decides to build a farm there.
In 1920, that farm is now a bustling city. Speakeasies serve to finest Shale as they listen to new hit jazz bands. Silent films have taken a rise, and so have automobiles. Though not everything is dandy. Tensions between races is getting violent, leading to hate crimes. Vampires are held in insane asylums because of their bloodlust, and crime is rampant.
