Have you ever started to work on a character, that you thought would turn into something REALLY good, but you could only ever get so far in figuring them out before your brain decides to take a hiatus on you?
I seem to experience this a lot. Even when I have some sort of inspiration for working on a character. It just never seems to last long. I have lost count on how many OC's I've started, yet have never finished. Like that dwarf I asked for help with, concerning images...Oopsie..
Why would I do so many, if I don't finish them, you ask? Simple. Trying to give my mind a break. That and I have this horrible habit of random photo hunting, and then if I get REALLY interested in an image, I will just randomly edit it just because.
Let's just say a lot goes on in my world in rl, and it puts a strain on my creativeness. That and even if it doesn't, my mind still says: Nope! I'm on vacation!
Anyone else have this issue?

Yes indeedy! Usually it is when work is quite busy and I have to work longer hours. Being a lot of my work is on computers (SAP, Excel, etc.) I sometimes just dont have the drive to get on a computer at home. It's where this rapid, short paragraph RO I'm in comes in handy as I can usually write a post on my phone.
As for characters, I do seem to half-bake them some. If the desire comes to further flesh them out, it is usually as a result of using them in an RP that brings it out. That said, I do have a 'hard luck' character that has started four RPS only to have them fizzle quite soon for various reasons. I wss thinking of killing him and starting over with someone new.

I can understand that. When you've dealt with something most of the day, such as being on a computer for work, then coming home to it is like: Nope!
May I ask what makes you want to kill off said 'hard luck' character? If you'd like you can PM me about it.
I edit evolve emblessish my characters. With my lineup the ones I use less I delete. My ones I use a lot I save because they are my favorites and a few of them are real keepers.

Well, he was conceived in a hurry for an RP that went well for three days before my co-writer decided to leave RPR. Someone else came in and wanted to take over, and so I agreed but the one-liner 1st person style wasn't mine. I carried it for a week or so before they quit replyig, and I let it die. I started a third, but the co-writer didn't like my writing style after three posts, and the 4th didn't even get going, dying in the planning stages. I was thinking of tweaking him and giving him a try in a new RP I owe someone, so maybe he has escaped death this time around.

Ah, I see. That can get tricky, as well as discouraging. But hopefully, you'll have better luck with this person. Best of luck to you!

Working IT myself I can totally relate with your experience.
Your characters seem good to me, which one isn't quite making it through? Maybe we can work something out

When real life is so hextic/stressful it can easily impact one's ability to relax and focus on creativity, be it designing characters or role-playing with them.
When creating or remodelling characters, I find it useful to pick an inspirational song and use the same song whilst developing the characters' traits. Listening to that same song again helps my mind picture or focus on that particular character.
Maybe it can help you as well.
In all cases, stress is an enemy, a break and returning to it later can also be good

Nah, it'll be right. Thanks for the offer.
And yes, I tend to get into my medieval playlists when writing up my swordy characters, and classic rock for more modern ones.
It's pretty rare for me, but I will say that when it does happen I usually morph the characters together.
A few of my characters are the product of two characters being turned into one character when I realized they would both be better if their traits and backstory was combined into one delightfully multi-faceted character.
I have a problem with creating a lot of characters based on pictures of people I see. I do finish them though. I just have way to many. I'll more often than not base an entire character around a specific model. I almost always have the face claim before I have the characters name much less backstory. Example: Seraphina was not even a thought in my mind until she was inspired by this photo of Amanda Seyfried.
I do however have a ton of RP ideas that I write down and never post either because they seem like they might only be interesting to me or because I just have so many that I forget about one when I have four more.

You know I have not thought about that. The morphing character's into one. Might need to look over some of my "Forever" In Progress OC's, and see if anything can be done.
Mostly my thing is I can get all, or almost all, of the basic info for a character. When it comes to the backstory? Forget it. My brain goes Hiatus, even if I have some kind of inspiration.
Example being: I've used Sonata Arctica's song: Till Death's Done Us Apart as an outline/guide for an OC's backstory. I posted the lyrics, after of course crediting the artist and such, and then I posted about my OC to explain how the lyrics fit for him. I got another song by a different band I want to use for an OC, but my mind still doesn't want to work. Hopefully, it will work soon, I am really fond of the OC that I want to put the song to.
Also. I can relate a little on your plot idea thing. I recently found the artist named Dark Sarah, and after watching one of her YouTube videos, I looked up the lyrics and said that I really wanted to do an rp based off that video/lyrics. But I hesitated and told a close friend I just wanted to rp it with her. I didn't think anyone would take an interest, or if they did they would end up ghosting me. So it's why sometimes my good ideas I either keep to myself, or I get a hold of my best friend and say: Here's a new idea! Can we please rp this?! Lol!
Hmm... I do finish the basics that are required for a roleplay, but then a muse throws me a curveball of information that I hadn't thought about before. Then I start adding more and more details until I either lose track of time or I forget what I was doing in the first place because I sidetracked on my research... (Do you have any idea how many hours I lost on Kagura because I was looking up the right kind of fashions for him? It sidetracked to ancient Rome for some reason. I have no idea why.) In fact, my character notes are massive info dumps that still need to be deciphered to this day. But my brain goes quiet so often that I never get to add any of the ideas from them to my actual profiles.
So yeah... I know your pain. I know it very well. It even carries over to drawing my muses: I start sketching one of them, then end up lazing about and it never gets done. And yet I can finish another person's character art with ease if they ask it of me. It makes no sense at all~!

Because when it is something of our own, it feels like it is something that we must do. When it is for someone else, it is something that we want to do. While we want to make/work on an OC, we end up feeling like it's a task that we forced onto our selves.
No idea if it's really true or not, but that's just how I see it.
