How do I roleplay? I hosted a Zombie Apocalypse roleplay, and I'm not exactly sure how to start it. And when I join a roleplay, I don't know how to actually roleplay.. Someone, please help!
(Random genre's. This is NOT a roleplay. It is a question.)
P.S. The first person with a reply that really helps me, I will design a profile picture for them or one of their OC's!

It doesn't, but thanks.
Well, perhaps you could be more specific about what it is you're confused about?
See, when I join a roleplay, I don't know how to start it. Let's say I started a magical roleplay. There are five people that want to join, and I say that they can. But I'm not sure how to start the roleplay, in other words, I don't know how to start roleplaying with them.
If you mean, "how do I start an IC roleplay topic for others to send posts as their characters in," then it depends on where you want the roleplay to be held. Do you want this to be in PMs so you can roleplay in private, or do you want to try this in the public forums for more open play? You can even make your own group just for your roleplay if you need a bit more space for it to grow and even expand worlds!
If you're going for roleplaying in PMs, then here's a useful and simple link to help you get started, and another link on how to add players that want to join your roleplay later on. You can even make two seperate PMs: one for OOC banter, and one for where the actual roleplaying is going to be held.
If the public forums is where you want to go, then you can choose one of our three IC forums that suits your roleplay best and click "Add Topic." From there, you can type the start of your roleplay ICly.
On posting ICly, by the way, there's a small dropdown box above the text field that allows you to either post as yourself, or as one of your characters! However, you're only allowed to post as a character in the IC forums, and not as yourself.
If your question is akin to, "how do I get started in the art of writing a roleplay," then that's a different story. I can answer that if the tips above aren't what you're looking for. But it feels like you're asking more about "where can I go to start roleplay topics and start writing with my friends," instead of "how do I write for roleplay in the first place?" If I'm wrong, please let me know!

The best way to start is by communicating with your RP partners! Ask them who would like to start, and if there are any goals or things that need to be considered before moving forward. Usually, the person who organises the roleplay sets it up by sending their first post - in a group PM, a public forum topic, or group forum topic, whatever you all decided on - to all participants involved. (For PMs, you can PM everyone in the same thread by adding them all at once!)
In the first post, I usually see people setting up the scene to introduce their character and maybe the setting the RP takes place. Then everyone else falls into place and responds.
You might want to consider a posting order so everyone gets their turn, or focus on other rules to keep the game going in case someone can't respond.
Bottom line is, communicate with each other! It's hard to mess RPing up if everyone gets to speak up and is heard and considered.

- Decide where you want to do the RP. Your options are:
- Public IC forums, either the general RP forum, the fantasy RP forum or the Sci Fi RP forum. If RPing here, create a topic. In the first post, describe the setting, who can participate, and make you own first post for people to respond to.
- Private messages. Start a new PM conversation with all the people you want to play with. In the first message of that conversation, describe the setting and make your own first post for people to respond to.
- A private group. In this case, you'll need to set up the group and your own forums. This is usually for groups that are going to have their own custom world and rules and lots of stuff they need to keep track of outside of the RP itself.
- Some other messaging service like Discord or Kik.
- Tell your friends where you are starting the RP and that they are free to start making their own posts.
- Enjoy!
