I've never liked the idea of using dice in forum RP, and I imagine that there are lots of people here who would agree with that idea. They create the possibility of characters dying and the story ending without any kind of satisfying resolution.
On the other hand, I recently posted a question about using cartoon physics in RP, and it occurred to me that if someone combined toon physics with dice rolls, it could create a whole new and exciting use for them! Toon physics would take away the risk of death AND make failure extremely fun and hilarious too!
Imagine your average Joe character is running from mob of angry cheerleaders from Mars (cliche, I know, but stay with me). He has to climb a wall, and has a Strength stat of three, and the wall requires a five. So you roll your D20 and you roll a perfect 1, resulting in catastrophic failure. So he throws himself agains the wall, falls onto his back, and all those cheerleaders rush over and stomp him into a chunky paste before disintegrating his broken body with their ray-pistols before leaving him alone.
One scene later, he's in a large body cast on his way to a full recovery. In that case, failure was hilarious and great fun for everyone!
What are other people's thoughts on this concept?

So long as everyone agrees that that is how it should be handled. Otherwise, it can shatter immersion and remove any kind of stakes from the game. For a game intended to be silly, I can see this working out great.

Of course. This kind of game would have to be silly. That would be this game's immersion. Toon physics doesn't work in high drama without ample helpings of comedy.
