Hi guys. Since I'm sure you know that I'm doing Camp NaNo while I'm doing exams, searching for a job and attempting to keep up my already open games on here. I'm doing shorts this time 'round rather than a novel because I prefer writing short stories.

But at the same time I don't. I'm a roleplayer, that means that I like writing long stories, but I also like to couple up and do my long stories with other people. Roleplaying is important to me. It's a social tool. It helps me understand my characters. It helps my writing improve.

I can hear you already, "TL;DR!", but there is a point to this.

I've heard a bunch of people say things like "I can't write a story" or "I can't write 50 000 words in a month! That's too much!"

The challenge here is to take those two statements and prove them wrong. Here's how.

But I can't write a story! Well, yes, actually you can. You do it every time you post in an RP. You're helping create a story with a second person. Every time you come up with a character background, you're writing a story, even if it only stays in your head. As a roleplayer, you are a creative person who likes to write. Writing with another person doesn't mean you aren't a writer, it just means that you like to write as a social past time. There is nothing wrong with that.

There is no way I can write 50 000 words in a month you crazy wench. I'm going to make two points here.

1. I took a random RP between two people and in under 48 hours they managed to write just over 1000 words together. In another set of posts between two people they managed to post six times between them in the same day and got about the same amount.

2. Most of us are playing more than one RP at the same time. We're not just playing one character to one RP. Even if we are, that's fine. I know some of us prefer that. Sometimes, though we're making other things at the same time. Adding a history to a character's profile or maybe working on a story of our own somewhere else.

Camp NaNo is flexible and can be as little as 10 000 words.

Onto the Challenge!
For those of you who think that you can't do thinks like Camp NaNo, I would like you to copy past all of your posts into a word document. I'm sure you'll be surprised at how quickly you can get numbers, even the people who often post short posts. I think that at the end of the month you'll be pleasantly surprised at how many words you can actually write in a month.

Oh, and remember: it isn't about winning or losing. Even if you don't make your goal, every word you wrote is a word you hadn't written before.
