It's not as simple as it looks. Infiltrating high level security never was. It made things a lot harder when they put alarms inside the vents too. Metal detectors at each entrance and exit didn't help, but Erin had something not everyone had. A laminate pass hung from her neck to just below her chest. A photo of herself sat in the upper corner, her long dirty blonde hair tied up in a ponytail, her glasses off. Some people were lucky and got to see for free, Erin was not one of them. She could barely see past her fingers before everything blurred like a drunken haze. So she wore dark plastic frames that accentuated her amber eyes. She adjusted the frames as she walked by, sliding them up her slender nose, having been forced to remove them to get through security. She would have felt safer if they hadn't made her leave her bag behind at the desk, but it wasn't like pepper spray would be able to do much against the Sorcerer on the seventeenth floor. That's right. Sorcerer. Loads of magic and the ego to go with it. See, the world isn't as simple as it seems. All those big bad things you thought were stories? They're real.

The laminate would only get you so far though, people didn't take press as well as they used to, but Erin was young, and beautiful, not to mention smooth enough to talk her way through most situations. Erin Mercy was a bard. Most people hear that and think music and dancing, but there's a lot more to it than that. It requires a certain type of finesse. It also had it's own type of magic, even if it wasn't as direct or as strong as a Wizards. Not much could top a Wizards prowess anyway. Magic had to come from somewhere. Some people got theirs from faith, or even an idol. Finesse was the difference between Wizards and Sorcerers. A Wizard had training. That didn't make an untrained sorcerer weak, he could still topple the world, but a Wizard had better control. Magic didn't just seep out of a Wizard the way it seemed to mist and flow from the seventeenth floor. Whatever was going on up there, It wasn't weak by any means.

That's where Erin came in to play. Her job was to prevent the flow of supernatural knowledge, almost like the police. Magic had once flowed all across the land, and while many prospered, it also almost brought about the destruction of the world. So the Covenant had been forged, laws laid so that no supernatural creature was to be exposed. For, what would happen to the mortal man, should he learn that power was always just waiting to be grabbed?

So, I'm feeling very modern fantasy lately...I'd like your thoughts though, would anyone be interested in a journey like this?
I would be interested!!
this sounds very interesting

Hey, I'm glad you liked the idea. Do you have anything in particular you'd like to know or add?

Just gonna drop a bump xD
Does it just have to be witches and wizard kind of magic? I created a sibling set of character (for a plot where magic did actually destroy the world xD) that would fit well here too. They are elemental and the younger sister (fire elemental) is high school age and CANT control her powers. See where this could be fun?
