Halloween: one of the few days when Magnus's diet got thrown completely out the window. He'd already snuck plenty of candy from the bowl, which was shaped like a Phantump's head. Kids were beginning to make their way up and down the street in front of his apartment complex, shrieking with excitement and waving flashlights to and fro.
"That costume is great," Magnus said, pointing at a little girl dressed up like a Charizard. He sat on the stoop with Domine beside him. The trainer was dressed up like Lieutenant Surge, with his bangs slicked back. As for the Machoke--a couple of fake arms tied under her real ones and some yellow face paint made her the spitting image of a Machamp. "I can evolve you, if you want," Magnus said, but she shook her head adamantly. "Alright, alright!"

As the night wore on, the following stopped by:
First, came an "Ice Prince" in a lovely handmade costume reminiscent of the glaceon at their side. Their glaceon's fur was fluffed up and frozen in a dramatic 'mane' with foil-'gilded' bracers around its paws. "Tricks for Treats," the prince stated somewhat flatly, though a small smile came to their face. Then their glaceon-guard sat back regally, before pulling its paws up to beg.
Later, following after a group of loud teens, a slim and awkward individual in an ill-fitting hat and trenchcoat. They were flanked by an altaria in a handsome 'tuxedo' and a rowdy little shieldon bounded up with cardboard 'frill' and three 'horns' taped to his head. "Trick or Treat!" came a sweet voice from the trenchcoat and she held out a beat-up old satchel to collect the candy.

Magnus beamed at the icy pair that strode up to the stoop, admiring the handiwork that went into their costumes. "Lookin' mighty fine, bros!" A yellow face appeared in the window then, which began to excitedly yap at the Glaceon on the sidewalk. "JOLT! JOLT JOLT! JOLT!" Grinning sheepishly, Magnus grabbed a fistful of candy from the bucket and handed it over to the prince. "Err, sorry about him--have a nice night!"
Later, Magnus caught sight of a Shady Character approaching. He laughed, then quickly shut up, since he didn't know if the costume was supposed to be funny or not. "Well hiii!" he called to them, holding down a hand for the energetic Shieldon to sniff. "A fierce dino you are, aren't ya?" A generous handful of candy was dropped into the sack--there had to be enough for the Pokemon too, after all.

Magnus's compliment warmed the prince's smile, which grew warmer still when the jolteon made an appearance. Their 'cool' demeanor completely melted away as their glaceon's tail wagged and she also joined the barking. "I don't mind, mister. I like evee-lutions a lot. Thanks!" And then they waved and headed down the street, their glaceon occasionally turning back to retort "Glach! Lac!" and other things.
With the Shady Character, the shieldon shied away a moment, before stamping its feet and shaking its head at the offending hand. Though their trainer had looked worried at first, once the candy was dropped she just nodded. "Very fierce. Yes. Thanks. Goodbye." As they turned to leave, if Magnus and Domine ignored the shieldon's snorting huffs and the floaty flapping of the altaria they might see the following:

- one suspiciously mienshao-looking 'ribbon' peeking out from the trenchcoat sleeves
- and a dusty 'handprint' where the trainer had stood on the porch.
Eto whirled gleefully in a few dizzying circles, watching the lights of the illuminated houses and blinding beams of children's flashlights swing around the entire apartment complex. She had dressed herself in a dusky robe of deep violet, such a solid gradient that it looked black at this time of night. Her hood was pulled over her head, and in her hand was a pillowcase adorned with stickers, scribbled doodles from her Pokemon, and bright scarlet hearts. For the candy of course. She was a Hex Maniac! Though she looked frighteningly similar to one without dressing up . . .
Scrambling to keep up with his trainer, Eto's beloved Mimikyu Ryukki had switched out his standard Pikachu cloth disguise with that of Cleffa. A pale, bleached pink with stubby ears and a curly tail in the back. Rather adorable if you looked past the rather macabre eyes that looked to have been doodled on in sharpie. Spotting Magnus handing out candy, Eto scooped up her struggling Pokemon, and ran the rest of the way over to the trainer. She giggled at Machoke's costume, and held out her pillowcase.
" Trick or Treat! "
Ryukki wiggled under his cloth disguise, trilling eerily, clawed tendrils of miasma-like limbs holding out a small handknit pouch for candy as well.
" I love Machoke's costume! It's so cute!"
She ran her hands down her face, her somewhat alarming smile lighting up for a moment.
" Have you heard the rumors? A few kids went missing last Halloween, and haven't returned yet. Always good to keep your beloved Pokemon at your side! "

"Good night!" Magnus called to the ice prince. The Shady Character was regarded a little more suspiciously. What a weirdo. Well, even weirdos deserve some candy!
Then it was time for the next spooky visitor. "Hi!" he greeted Eto cheerfully, forking over the goodies. He looked a little creeped out by the Mimikyu's ghostly arms, but he smiled nonetheless and gave it a few pieces, too. "There you are lil buddy." Dom looked delighted at the compliment and made her extra arms wiggle. "Yeah, she worked real hard on it!"
And what Halloween was complete without spooky rumors? "Haven't heard that one ... that's pretty dark," he said. "Don't worry, Dom's my best bud! She'll keep me safe." The Machoke flexed, of course, first in the front double biceps pose and then seamlessly moving into side chest. Her extra arms certainly didn't carry their weight in this display. "And you'll take care of your trainer too, right lil buddy?" Magnus added, speaking to Mimikyu.

"Don't run too far from your Pokémon, boys!" Pixie was calling after her twin sons that were dashing forward to the next place for candies.
The boys were no less than five; one was dressed up as the Hoenn Gym Leader, Brawly, and the other had decided to take inspiration from the media, clad in a costume styled after the super villain: King Crusher, the Nidoking powerhouse. As for the Pokémon that accompanied them, next to the one dressed as Brawly was a Stufful, and next to King Crusher was Teddiursa. They all seemed to be happily approaching the house and looking to that Phantump head full of candy.
Both boys looked back to see their mother not too far behind them, and that was when the held out their Pumpkaboo plastic buckets and said in unison: "trick or treat!"

Magnus waved goodbye to one group just as the next one came galloping up to his stoop. And they both had teddy bears! Pixie herself was given the little nod-and-smile chaperone greeting before he turned his attention to the boys. "Oh no, it's King Crusher!" he cried in mock alarm. "Mr. Brawly will save me, right?" When their buckets were held out, he plopped a handful of candy in each one. "Happy Halloween, guys!"
Grinning, the twin dressed as Brawly looked to his brother and had his expression turn somewhat devious. Playing along, he went and announced, "don't worry! King Crusher has nothing on me! I'm the best Fighting type Trainer in the world!"
"Nuh uh!" the boy dressed as King Crusher retorted, beating a couple times on the cardboard chestplate. "King Crusher can pierce anything with his horn and deliver devastating blows with a Toxic attack!"
The two would banter long enough before their mother approached and took them gently by the shoulders. With patience and an also gentle tone, she asked them a simple question: "what do you say after being given candy, boys?"
Both children looked back up to Magnus with their childish smiles and said one after the other: "thank you for the candy, sir!"
Smiling, Pixie looked to Magnus and issued her own thanks, "and thank you for entertaining them. They've been going on and on about becoming Gym Leaders or superheroes."

Magnus watched the twins with a smile. "Oh yeah, no sweat little bros! Don't give yourself a stomachache, okay?"
He looked up to their patient mother. "Hey, gym leaders and superheroes are pretty great." He gestured to his own Lieutenant Surge costume with a thumb. "You guys have a good night!" He waved goodbye to the three of them, and Domine did too, making one of her fake extra arms flap limply.

Lilly loved Halloween. It was the only holiday that you got free stuff from strangers. Lilly was short enough that she could still trick or treat and still pass as a older teenager. She always got comments like, "Looks like this is your last year as a trick or treater", or "Your almost to old to trick or treat." She always played it off though and looked sad and said, "I know" when she got those comments. Yet here she is getting free candy again, in her Pikachu onesie that she loved.
She walked up to the next house and said "Tick or Treat."
She walked up to the next house and said "Tick or Treat."
The evening was growing long. Domine switched from flexing and posing to leaning against the railing, then sitting on the stoop next to her trainer. Even Magnus yawned every so often. What would Lt. Surge say if he saw them slacking off? Magnus grinned at the thought as he tore open a Lickitaffy and popped it into his mouth.
Only a few trick-or-treaters remained at that late hour. One of the last stragglers was a girl--woman?--in a Pikachu kigurumi. Magnus didn't squint too hard at her face--he had candy left, so who was he to withhold it from someone, even if she did look a little old. "Here you go," he said, offering her a handful of candies. "Have a happy Halloween!"
