James was standing in his usual spot, at the opening of an ally way right next to his favorite coffee shop. He liked to stand here and just watch the people walking by. Finding it to be a welcome distraction from his daily activities he watched as people walked quickly, knowing that they were in a hurry to be on with their days. James also watched as some walked slowly, knowing that they were in no rush to get where they were going. Mostly he found that people who took their time were trying to avoid what was to come at the end of their path. Taking a sip of his coffee James sighed and reached into his pocket. Pulling out a pack of cigarettes he popped it open and pulled one out. Looking up he placed the cigarette between his lips and pulled his lighter out. 'Same shit different day....' James thought as he lit his cigarette. As he observed the people passing by time seemed to stop as his eyes landed on one person. Just one person made his perception of what was going on around him turn. Other people faded away as she walked in his direction. She had been an object of his interest for years, never being able to read her, never being able to even speak to her. It aggravated him in a way words couldn't describe, and he could never find an explanation for his own feelings.

(Got a good idea for this...crafting character now. When done will reply in character! I love the idea of just letting the plot go as it goes!)
Annabelle, though she preferred "Anna" for short, had come into town with her adopted mother to pick up somethings for a trip that her mother and father were leaving on tomorrow. She would be alone at the house for nearly three weeks and she was okay with that, but her mother wanted to make sure the house was stocked up with food before they left. They had just come out of the grocery store across from the coffee shop with a cart full of food. Anna smile and turned her pale face to the sun closing her eyes and enjoying the light.
"The days are getting colder" she remarked, "but the sun still feels so nice. I'll be sad once it gets too cold to ride."
"Oh, you need to give those horses a break!" her mother chided, "You've road every day after class all summer!"
She smiled thinking fondly of those memories. As they reached the car and unloaded the bags Anna glanced at the coffee shop. She wasn't ready to return home just yet.
"Hey mom? Is it okay if I stay in town? I might call up Emily and hang out with her for a bit? Ill have her drive me home later" Anna asked.
Her mother thought for a moment then shrugged, "That's fine, just be home before supper. We leave bright and early tomorrow morning and may not have a chance to see you tomorrow morning."
"Okay!" she agreed and headed off across the street toward the coffee shop. She would call her friend Emily later, but not yet. She was happy just to be on her own. It is how she liked living.

James watched her closely, seeing her with her mom made her smile at the normality of it all. Being distracted by Anna, James didn't even notice Bradon, his best friend since high school walk up to him. "Dude...this is really making me sad for you." Bradon said with a slight chuckle. Both Bradon and James stood at 6 foot 3 inches though their appearances were complete opposites. James had dark hair, blue eyes, and a slight tan which Bradon had light blonde hair, green eyes and was white as a sheet. Looking over at Bradon James perked a brow and said, "No one said I couldn't admire from afar...." He watched as Bradon shook his head and pulled him out from around the corner onto the sidewalk. "How long have we known each other James? I know you have been head over heels for this girl since the moment you saw her back in junior year...and yet you have never grown a pair and actually talked to her." James listened to his friend and looked back at Anna. "I will when the time is right." James replied and stuck his hands in the pockets of his jacket. "Well....guess what buddy? That time is right now because I'm not giving you a choice." Bradon said with a smirk. Before James could respond Bradon pushed and tripped James at the same time sending him stumbling forward and right into Anna. Stepping back a little James looked down at her and stumbled out in his deep, smooth voice, "I...I am so sorry..." Quickly glancing at the door to the coffee shop James reached out and opened it, "I..um...assume this is where you were headed?" he said as his face started to turn the shade of a lobster.
Anna squeaked startled as James suddenly fell towards her, though she also reached out to catch him not watching him to go face first into the sidewalk, probably taking her with him. As he caught himself and straightened she smiled acknowledging his face turning red. She blushed a little herself and moved her hands up to her hair, a habit of playing with her hair when she gets nervous or anxious.
"Um....yeah. Yeah it was." She finally spit out realize she had been staring a little. "Hey, are you new around here? It isn't that big a town, and I've been gone at school a bit, I don't know if I have seen you here-" she cut herself off realizing she was starting to ramble. He was good looking after all. He did look somewhat familiar but she wasn't sure if she had ever met him before. High school maybe? He was very good looking. She was sure she would remember those blue eyes and handsome face. "Forgive me. Where are my manners. My name is Annabelle but everyone calls me Anna." She added more politely.

James followed her into the building, figuring he could get more coffee as he was finished with his. Listening to her intently he smiled a little and looked at her, finding her rambling adorable. Looking over at the cashier he scratched the back of his head and said, "I will have my usual please...and whatever she would like." Reaching into the inside pocket of his jacket he pulled out a small bundle of money and handed the cashier a $20. "Keep the change.." he told the cashier and looked back at Anna. "I'm James.." he said softly to her. Once she was done ordering he slipped his hands into his pockets and said, "Well...um...no. I have lived here all my life...we actually went to high school together.." Hearing that their orders were ready he reached over and grabbed both. Handing Anna hers he started to walk over to the tables and pulled her chair out for her. "I was a junior when you were a freshman...I...well I made it a point to not be noticed much..." he said softly as we sat down and sipped his coffee. James's heart was pounding out of his chest as he talked to her. "Um...so what are you going to school for?" James asked as he sat back in his chair and played with his coffee cup. 'Keep it together...' he thought and looked up at her through his lashes.
She had ordered a carmal latte for herself feeling a bit odd about him paying for her and pulling the chair out for her. But she accepted the gestures all the same. She didn't want to think to far into it. She didn't want to risk getting hurt if he only was being nice. "Really? Same high school?" She said astonished. Unable to believe it, but then again her high school wasn't small...and she had thrown herself into her studies and making friends. She had still been working so hard to belong back then. "I go to school for veteranary science. I want to be an equestrian vet one day, er, horse vet. Or some kind of large animals." She fiddled with the coffee in her hand glad for it's warmth on her old fingers from the fall weather but also trying to blush further. She hadn't excatly been on a day since senior year of high school, and that guy had only had one thing from a nice girl like her. Nothing had happened back then, but she had been protective of getting close to someone else since. "What about you? Do you go to college?" She added keeping her breathing steady to keep herself calm.
James smiled a little at her comment of large animals. The image of her next to large animals was cute to him. Once she asked him if he was going to college he figited in his chair a bit. “Well..um no. College wasn’t exactly in the cards for me...” he said and scratched the back of us head. “I would have liked to go...though my dad had different plans...” looking away from her he took a sip of his coffee and continued, “he wants me to take over the family business...” looking down he chuckled a bit and said, “though...that’s a long boring story...um...why large animals?” He was trying to change the subject as he didn’t want to tell her his father was the leader of one of the biggest gangs in the city. It’s not something he was proud of and certainly not something he wanted to inherit.
