This Looking For RP topic is marked as closed, meaning it is no longer seeking new players.

This interest check revolves around my character Duncan.

In short; Duncan has a few supernatural abilities, but does not know what he is. Doesn't remember jack shit before the age of fourteen. He has very little control over what he can do and when he's in grave distress or otherwise experiencing an intense, negative emotion, things get very messy.
Personality-wise he's introverted, a bit damaged, but also polite, intelligent and a problem-solver at heart. Due to his situation, his entire existence basically revolves around finding out about his roots, though his investigations are broad.

Mills Private Detectives is a small agency that's more or less a front. While they definitely do private detective work and are good at what they do, they, too, are very much paranormal investigators, though they're more the sort of group that cleans up the dangerous ones.
You've probably called it already, but yes, that includes Duncan.
It's not that these people are evil bad guys that see no shades of grey, but what they do see is creatures that can do serious damage to the population, wether they intend to or not.

So that's kind of his current situation; doing his research while trying to stay safe. I am aware that this is the sort of setting that risks putting him in a protagonist kind of role and your character in more of a secondary position, and that is not what I want. I want all characters involved to play equal parts in this thing.

A few ideas:
1.1 Y/C is tasked with infiltrating Mills, though without knowing that the people that seem to disappear at their hands are often dangerous and volatile. Once this becomes clear, Y/C needs to decide who they are loyal to; their superior, who does not believe these people have the right to play judge, jury and executioner, or this group of people that, in their unorthodox way, is trying to keep the world safe from beings that can do a lot of damage.
In both cases betrayal carries gigantic risks.
When they're put on Duncan's case, it's illustrated just how morally grey the situation is and again they need to figure out what their stance on this thing is, wether to help him or not, etc.

1.2 Y/C infiltrates on their own accord. They're a supernatural being of some kind as well, though in a way that's easily hidden, since a group of competent detectives with extensive knowledge of the supernatural would otherwise find out pretty quickly. Again they are confronted with the fact that not every supernatural being can safely co-exist with society, especially the more feral types.
Here they'd be walking a tightrope between showing that sometimes rather than killing a creature or person, there is merit in trying to help them, without letting the real bad ones walk free and without letting slip what they really are.
They'd again be tasked to deal with Duncan, to whom they might accidentally let their identity as a supernatural being slip, which poses an additional risk to Y/C.

2 Y/C and Duncan are cooperating to find the same thing/solve the same mystery. They perhaps met through a forum of some kind and have been communicating for a long time, resulting in some careful trust, or perhaps one helps the other out a bad situation. Either way, they work together.
This idea can go well with a wide variety of locations and settings, as their target destination could be all over the world. Perhaps they even have to travel to a number of different places.

3 Housing prices and availability suck, both our characters don't have that much to spend so they end up sharing an apartment, the sort where each has their own room, but other facilities are shared. Both have a secret and by some unlucky coincidence, both have their past catch up at the same time. They escape together, but now their enemies might team up as well.

I've found enough people for these two, for now.

I'm aware that these are pretty specific plots. If you find the character interesting, but have a different idea, feel free to share it. I'm also cool with mixing elements from the ideas listed above.

I usually post somewhere between 200 to 600 words, depending on the situation and such. I don't mind shorter posts during dialogue if that helps it be more natural, but I don't want oneliners.
Sometimes I have a lot of time to post, sometimes very little, so that fluctuates.
Magic 50%
Magic is rare, but not unheard of. Mundane characters may or may not believe in it. Magical characters may form small and exclusive pockets for study, protection, etc.
Technology 50%
Modern
Combat 50%
Combat is expected as part of the storyline but it won't dominate the plot.

Details: Freeform, adjustable length posts, long-term RP partner preferred.

Very interesting plots, I'm really down to do this!
If you are still looking for a partner, you can always send me a PM; I'll be happy to discuss details with you! I do think that we could create something amazing!

Hope to hear from you,

Awesome! Which one do you prefer?
I like the second one where they have a common goal.

This sounds like a lot of fun. I love the interesting plot ideas! Maybe we can rp one ?
