(Her setting is modern, but for this event anyone is welcome from any setting of course! )
It was a very chilly night out while the children, teens and adults went about their way Trick or Treating. Wanda had done her rounds earlier with some of the homeless shelter's kids, and now sat outside at a table big enough to seat four adults, cozied up in a thick blanket. She lived in a small apartment on the ground floor on the outskirts of the city and had her windows decorated from the inside with bats, pumpkins and skeleton cut-outs. A few hollowed out pumpkins lined the doorsteps and sat next to her little stand. Adorning the door to her left was a large sign that read:
The table was filled with all sorts of materials and tools. An array of colored paint was ready to go, with multiple blending palettes and baby wipes to the side. In the middle of the table was a large bowl filled to the brim with candy, ranging from little chocolate minibars to good old single servings of Haribo bears. A smaller bowl next to it was filled with apples and mandarin oranges, and a few random small toys for the kids with different dietary needs.
In short, Wanda had made sure to get a little something for everyone. She was a professional makeup artist and had lead the face painting events at the homeless shelter many times before. Wanda's costume was hidden under her blanket, but she wore a colorful mermaid dress costume, a bright teal wig and her own face was a beautiful work of makeup art. Scales dotted and blended from the sides of her face to her center, decorated with glitter like her eyes. The colors shifted hues depending on the angle one looked at her.
While she didn't have the time to do elaborate makeup like this for everyone, she had printed out some standard to-go examples of face paint for kids: tigers, butterflies, dragons, witches, dogs, cats and a handful of other animals and creatures were available and done in just a couple of minutes with Wanda's skills.

Halloween was always fun for the kids. Camila remembered when she and her brother, Javier, used to go around as kids around their neighbourhood in California. Now, they were older. Camila was usually working at the hospital, and was even still on-call that night, but luckily, her pager had not gone off. She was thankful for that, because she had her brother and his wife's twins on either side of her, both filling a hand of hers so that that they did not run off too far.
"Quedate cerca de mi, niños," Camila cooed as the boy and girl wanted to run off and do their own thing. However, with Camila's family history, and much more the history of Javier's wife, she was not going to let these two terrors run off and get into who-knows-what. Especially not when their abilities were slowly manifesting into something that could cause her pager to go off shortly after an ambulance arrived.
"¡Tía Camila, mira!" the young girl exclaimed, pulling her aunt toward the face paint stand. There was a large smile on the girl's face. The young girl was dressed up like a witch. She wore a black dress, had a large belt, black and orange striped socks, a pointed witch's hat, and a cloak with jack-o-lanterns that decorated the bottom hem line.
"Would you like to get your face painted, Hiroko?" Camila asked, smiling down to her niece.
"Yes, tía!" Hiroko happily replied, hopping up and down.
"What about you, Kazuo?" Camila asked, looking to the young boy that was attached to her other hand. He was a little more quiet, and was dressed up like a Green Lantern superhero. He gave a small nod of his head, and that was all Camila needed before she started leading both of the children up to face painting stall with the Halloween decor around it.
"Good evening, ma'am! My neice and nephew would like to get their faces painted," Camila said, slowly letting go of both of the children's hands.
Immediately, Hiroko went up to the print out of examples that were available. She seemed indecisive as she pointed at certain ones. It was clear that one could see the gears slowly turning in her head, and as she was taking her sweet time to decide, Kazuo shyly shuffled up to the lady, holding his candy bag nervously.
"猫と calabazaがほしい!" Hiroko yelled, looking back to Camila with the widest smile.
"I only got 'pumpkin' out of that, sweetie. Can you say it in Spanish or English?" Camila requested.
"Um..." Hiroko looked back to the print out of examples and pointed to the cat, and then the pumpkin. "I want... the cat... and pumpkin."
"Muchos gracias sobrina," Camila said to her niece before looking back to Wanda. "Sorry... they both live in a very... multi-cultural household. She talks much more than her brother."
Speaking of...
Camila knelt down and placed a hand on Kazuo's shoulder.
"Hey, sweetie. You want to tell the nice lady what you want painted on your face, too? Your sister already chose..." Camila smiled and nudged the young boy dressed as a Green Lantern affectionately.
"... a mask..." Kazuo said, barely audible.
"One more time, sobrino. So this nice lady can hear you."
"A... a Green Lantern mask."

In the throes of various crowds of costumed children (and adults,) Josephine had found herself being indirectly guided towards a distant house along the outskirts of the city- last pickings, as she might have joyfully explained to anyone who asked. The early autumn chill that rippled through the air didn't seem to particularly bother her, outside of the way it ruffled her thick curls and tugged on the edges of her skirt. Her nose wrinkled as the faint scent of sweet candies and pumpkin-laden candles came her way, and it was hard for her not to immediately burst into a bright smile.
So she hadn't hit up every house yet!
Tugging the almost comically large leather jacket against her thin frame, the tan-skinned girl giddily skipped down the uneven sidewalk, careful to avoid any stray trick-or-treaters that she might have ran over had she not been paying attention. It didn't take her very long to find her prize- a well-decorated apartment with a plethora of devilishly sweet candies to pick from, and a small booth set off to the side. She made sure to hit up the chocolates before taking part in any other festivities, as those were her primary motivation here. Fortunately for her, an angelic, youthful face was often more than enough to sway any uncertain adults that she was, in fact, not too old to participate in this ~spooky~ holiday!
After loading up on various sweets, Josephine stopped by what appeared to be a painting stand- at least, that was what it appeared to be, what with the costumed woman working it and the colorful swatches in front of her. She blinked, considering it for a moment, and then grinned as she shyly came towards the...the fish lady? That was an odd depiction, but she wasn't one to judge. Maybe some people just liked to look like those weird rainbow fish she had seen once or twice in the creeks. They were sort of pretty, she supposed.
Josephine was on the borderline of looking ridiculous in her costume; her small body was overwhelmed by an outlandish, punk-esque attire. Her messy mop of curls was pinned back in a tall ponytail, a bandana pulled over her bangs and hints of bright, temporary hairspray present in the ends of her hair. A scratchy leather jacket with far too many buckles and dangly bits was worn over a simple, white tee, complimented by a pair of torn jeans whose cuffs were something reminiscent of the "Tripp" pants from the early 2000's...which were aptly named, as she almost tripped over them once or twice on the way over. She was, it seemed, trying to look like one of those old rock stars, though with varying degrees of success.
She stood in front of the booth for a moment, placing a painted fingernail to her lip as she observed her options. Then, she smiled widely, pointing at a picture of a cat with obvious excitement. "Can you do me like that?!" she gasped, her giddiness getting the best of her and temporarily causing her to forget her manners. "...Please?"

"Can't have a superhero with a secret identity without a mask now, can we?" The mask was easy to create, but she made sure it was neat and looked good. She also handed him the mirror to show him. "Nobody will recognize you now, I promise!"

"It definitely is interesting. A learning experience, too. I've had to learn quite a bit of their mother's language through them just to know what they're saying sometimes," Camila replied, chuckling softly as Wanda started painting the first of the two kids' faces. It was honestly very surprising to see Hiroko sit still enough to get her face painted, but she had a big smile on her face as she gently kicked her legs out in an alternating fashion.
Once Hiroko was shown what her face paint looked like, her wide smile turned into a wide beam of joy. Hopping off the chair, Hiroko immediately exclaimed: "¡Tía! Mi cara esほんとすてき!"
Giving a smile and then a sigh of resignation, Camila reached her hand out so that Hiroko could take it before gently saying, "c'mon now, sobrina. You can't just keep switching languages on us. Can you repeat that in English or Spanish?"
"Mmmm..." Hiroko looked like she had to concentrate long and hard before she looked up to Wanda. "My face... is very pretty! Thank you a lot!"
"Muy bien, sobrina! Muchos gracias," Camila praised, smiling rather happily herself.
Camila then turned her attention to Kazuo and watched as he tentatively left his bucket of candy at her feet and then shuffled up to where he had to sit. He was definitely much easier to handle when it came to the general excitement levels than his sister. Getting the Green Lantern mask painted on him was definitely a little more of a silent process, though once he was done, he looked himself over and smiled.
It seemed that the complete Green Lantern mask gave Kazuo a bit of a confidence boost as he stood up from the seat and grinned up at Wanda and then his aunt. Raising his fist that had the plastic Green Lantern ring on it, he then punched it into the air.
"In brightest day, in darkest night! No evil shall escape my sight! Let those who worship evil's might... Beware my power, Green Lantern's light!" Kazuo quoted, the little plastic ring starting to glow a green before Camila took his hand and held it firmly (though certainly not painfully) before anything happened that she would not want for that lovely evening thus far.
"What do you tell the nice lady, Kazuo?" Camila asked, smiling through the internal screaming she was currently experiencing.
"Oh... thank you, miss!" Kazuo immediately said, looking back to Wanda once more.
Spotting the treats that were set out, Camila let go of both the kids' hands and directed them toward them. Hiroko chose a toffee chocolate bar, and Kazuo got a caramel cookie bar for their buckets. They both thanked Wanda again before going back to Camila and filling either hand with their own.
"Thank you so much from me as well. They can be a lot sometimes, so I'm really happy that you could calm them down in some fashion," Camila said to Wanda.

Wanda looked pleased with how happy Hiroko was. The child had been very sweet and Wanda made sure not to take too long, noticing the impatience. She grinned when her work was complimented. "Thank you too! You're an amazing model to paint scary cute things on!"
With the mask for the boy done, she also noticed the change in his demeanor and covered her mouth to stifle a giggle. She was familiar with the Green Lantern and it was just too adorable to see him get into it. There was maybe a small hint of disappointment in her eyes when Camila ended the display rather abruptly, but she smiled pleasantly all the same.
She waited for them to pick their treats and nodded. "Don't forget to wash your faces and brush your teeth before bed, sweethearts. You were a delight to paint and very well behaved." She winked at Camila. "It was no trouble at all. I hope the rest of your night goes well!"
Lucy yanked her twin to the shop front. "FLYNN WE ARE GETYING FACE PAINT! " As a twelve year old she knew how to get her brother to do what she liked. She had even gotten him to dress up with her, she was little red riding hood and he was the big bad wolf.
"Ok....." he wasn't crazy sure about getting stuff on his face as hes had bad experiences with people near his face, happy at least that his costume allowed his ears to stand tonight. "What would I even get?"
"Whatever you'd like" Lucy giggled as she opened the door and both of them went inside, looking around. She spotted the examples and looking through them.
