Holy crap...have y'all seen that show? It's just so trippy and mind bending and disturbing. We just watched the episode where everything in society is determined based on upvotes and social media rating--how creepy is that? I'm so glad it's not really that way.
But it's disturbing because it's not that hard to picture the world being like that---freaky! Ugh!
And don't get me started on that episode that was like Star Trek ...that was creepy too. They make you think though, don't they?
Just thought I'd see if anyone else watches that Netflix series. It's a trip!
Lemme know your favorite episode if you do.

Ohmigosh yes I do...I absolutely adore it. I love the whole thing about technology in our society....and how it could be potentially harmful rather than something good. It's incredibly well thought out.
I'd say my favorite was the very first episode; the Star Trek rip off one. It was incredibly complex, terrifying, intriguing. It sent shivers down my spine. Loooooooooove it!

While I enjoy the show... a small confession: I didn't realize until episode 3 that they are stand-alone stories. I was like "How in the world are they gonna tie this all back together??"
Ahhh, I LOVE Black Mirror. It’s my kind of genre.
I think my favorites at San Junipero, White Bear, Playtest, Nosedive, and Shut Up and Dance. I love the show as a whole, but those were episodes I really adored. Or loved gawking at, you know? The one you mentioned, Nosedive, I could totally see society heading in that direction, and that’s TERRIFYING.
I still need to watch Season 5, and I’m going to ASAP!

Yay! And I just watched San Junipero last night too, and it was so good! I loved that couple, oh my gosh. I'm so glad it turned out the way it did. And it was soooo mind bending. It's my favorite episode so far.
Nosedive, that's it. Couldn't think of the name. Yes, it was so weird to see everyone acting so happy all the time...just sickeningly happy. And then when they finally got to speak their mind they're like "$#&"'&_ you, I don't like your face!" Lol. Ugh. So good. Another great episode about the dangers of suppressing everything until maybe it all comes out at once in a self-destructive eruption.

Hehe. That's funny/cute. I can see why you would think that.

Yeah...that one had a special level of scary for me too. Because if a game like that existed, I would be tempted to be like him, except not cruel like he was, but wanting to control everything. Every aspect, every person. Wanting to play God. It has a tempting quality for me. And that's kinda scary. I'm like....ew if I have anything in common with him I need to work on myself. Lol. In the end I think it was about him being terrified to take risks in real life (for example, talk to the girl, ask her on a date, stand up to his brother). And because he didn't get up the courage to do those things in real life, he did them in his fantasy world that he had complete control over, and was a tyrant. It's like "holy crap...what a lesson on expressing things in real life and not suppressing them. And taking risks and dealing with failure in a healthy way!" Man, that episode and series is so deep. I couldn't stop thinking about it for like 3 days after I saw it, because I identified way too much with the main character! Lol

Oh man. You totally should, I bet you would love it. I think it's a made-for-Netflix series, but I forget.

Lol!Personally, I think we all have something in common with him in general; just the desire to control things. It was really cool, though, how at first you're supposed to feel for the poor guy and want to cheer him on and have him get the girl, but then all of a sudden, it's like BAM! I don't want to be affiliated with this character at all! I've never seen a character portrayed in such a way that someone is so uncomfortable and terrifying when you so desperately wanted the best for them in the beginning. Seriously, a brilliant way to take a story.
I don't think you'd be as awful as he was... Control is one thing; the crap he pulled is next level disgusting. But being able to control your world would be amazing! That's partly why we writers write, right? Lol.
Seriously, if I was to play that game, I'd be a freaking demon. From what I understand, the game is very much like Sea of Thieves, just in space...and you know how much I love Sea of Thieves. AND. YOU. GET. TO. EXPLORE. SPACE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Take my money, just not my soul and good intentions.

Answer, contains spoilers
Hahaha...yes exactly. That IS why it's brilliant, that twist where you like him and then you hate him. Man.
And you're right, I would never be like that. Not the cruelty. I can't stand people suffering...that whole depriving her of air thing...oooooooh....that pissed me off, I wanted to freaking end him right then! I was so glad when they got away from him. But just a LITTLE too much appealed to me to where I'm like uh oh, that's creepy. It doesn't help that I'm such a Star Trek fan, like he is. I was like "Ew! No! Creepy! Too much in common!" Lol. But no no of course not. And that thing with the kid..grrrrrr! That episode got me riled up! Yes we writers exactly exactly. We do get to control the environment haha. Part of the appeal.
