YERSINIA'S RUNE READINGS
WHAT IS RUNECASTING?
The Norse equivalent of tarot card reading or fortunetelling. Like last year, I’ll be doing Norn spreads to amaze and amuse (probably with how inaccurate they are.)
WHAT IS A NORN?
The Norns were the Norse goddesses of fate: Urd (past), Verdandi (present), and Skuld (future). Likewise, this is a simple three-rune spread. Past, present, future. Keep in mind that runecasting is not intended to be prophesy, but to provoke thought and self-reflection.
What've you got to lose? It doesn't cost you anything. I'm the one sitting here throwing rocks at tables.
I WOULD LIKE TO SEE YOU THROW ROCKS AT TABLES FOR MY AMUSEMENT
That’s the spirit. Just a few things first:
- As stated above, this year I'm sharing the booth with the fantastic psoliver and his tarot deck, so we'll be alternately completing requests. Maybe you'll get rocks. Maybe you'll get cards. Life is a mixed bag.
- Sometimes a rune is cast upside down. This is called murkstave, or "dark stick." It changes the rune's meaning to have a warning connotation but is not ‘evil’ or inherently bad.
- If a question is sensitive enough that you would only feel comfortable PMing it to me, I don't think my rocks can give you reliable advice.
- Please be patient. I'm a tired and busy university student.
- This is just for fun
Happy Halloween!

How did I learn to cast runes?
Last year I was asked a few times how I started runecasting. Honestly, I learned from the internet. The Elder Futhark are probably the easiest divination method to pick up; there's only twenty-four symbols and they're pretty straightforward. I read as many sources as possible and compared them to try and sift out facts from opinions.
A disclaimer: although the supernatural fascinates me, I'm a skeptical person and can't profess a belief in it. I just think this is an interesting form of introspection.
Regarding the runestones themselves, I made them by collecting pebbles of similar sizes and shapes from the forest I played in a lot as a kid. They're supposed to be "better" if you make them yourself. Although, you're also supposed to paint the runes on with mouse blood. While that was well within my capabilities given my hobbies, I thought red paint might be cleaner. You keep the runes in a wooden box and don't let them touch other people, or the table you cast on (I use a rabbit pelt as a buffer instead of a cloth.)
Anyone can cast runes, and it's easy to get started, so. Go for it. Follow your dreams.

it is i
hi hello i’m psoliver. you might know me from my tarot reading thread. if you’re not familiar with my heathenry, i like slamming my cards down on my bedroom floor and telling people the future.
just kidding. tarot isn’t meant to give 100% clear cut visions about the future. it’s mostly meant to give advice, help you pinpoint how you feel about a certain situation, and help predict an outcome to said situation based on your feelings and the advice the cards are giving.
(also if ur waiting for a reading from me on my separate thread, i’m really sorry that i got so behind, i haven’t touched tarot in months so hopefully this helps me get back into the swing of things)
anyways,
spread: so, there are a myriad of different tarot spreads, but i’m also going to be doing the past/present/future spread. it’s pretty much going to be the same exact thing as yersinia’s readings, except with cards and different descriptions. speaking of descriptions, i’m either going to get mine from my book that came with my deck or tarotguide.hi hello i’m psoliver. you might know me from my tarot reading thread. if you’re not familiar with my heathenry, i like slamming my cards down on my bedroom floor and telling people the future.

anyways,
oliver i want you to feed me the magic cards: excellent.
- please try to avoid yes or no questions, it makes the reading a bit more confusing. for example, instead of asking, "should i do this thing?" you could ask, "what would be the outcome if i did this thing?"
- as yersinia said, Please Be Patient. i’m a busy high school student that’s in a constant state of procrastination and crisis. i’m literally a disaster. sometimes i’m too busy being a human wreck to slam down some magic cards.
- how seriously you take this depends on you and your beliefs. again, this is just for fun, but i’m not gonna hold you at knifepoint and force you to believe one way or the other. if you take it seriously, great! if not, that’s cool, too, this is all for fun.
- tarot cards are prone to absolutely mercilessly dragging everyone. if this happens, i’m sorry. i am but the messenger. it happens to everyone and i am bullied frequently.
- wanna get into tarot?? follow ur wildest divination dreams. but its pretty price-y, depending on what deck you get. google can probably tell you a lot more than i can.
happy halloween lads, Have Fun. in case you’re wondering, i have the wild unknown deck.

This is my new favorite fact of the day.
It's lovely that the two of you are doing this despite your busy schedules. I hope you get lots of fun requests and questions!
Mine is pretty boring. Right now, I'm stuck in a rut, both in my career and my life. How do I get out?
Thank you so much in advance!
This looks like a lot of fun and thank you for doing this. Anyway I have had this one half breed character stuck in my head for quite a while now, but have never gotten around to making it. So my question is how likely will this character turn out to be a good one provided I get my rear in gear?
This seems so cool!😀 I wanna give this a try. Can you do my character Sarah?

aaa i’m really sorry, but we (i’m assuming we since we’re basically doing the same thing idk i currently don’t have yersinia’s input on this lmao, but @yersinia if i’m wrong feel free to say something) can’t really give readings for fictional characters because they have their personality traits/future/etc all made up and planned out. however, i/we could do a reading about how your writing will develop, or something like that? and if you’d like insight on your character specifically, i recommend tests like mbti, ennaegam, and the moral alignment test. reading about your character’s zodiac sign can be fun, too.
Oh wise oracles of rprepository, may thy show my future?
Okay, how about me. I wanna find out of my music career will take off.

ANSUZ - BERKANO - EIHWAZ
PAST / ANSUZ: this is the rune for "mouth" or "ancestral god," aka Odin himself. It's interesting that I drew this for your past because it's typically associated with insight (divine or otherwise), wisdom, and harmony. It's possible that you pursued your particular path in life under the impression that it was exactly what you wanted, and now in your rut you're having second thoughts. But I wouldn't be too down on myself about it if I were you. Ansuz means you made an informed decision. Sometimes things just don't work out as planned.
PRESENT / BERKANO: also spelled Berkana, this is the rune for "birch" and the tree goddess Berchta. It represents 'birth' in the plantlike sense of renewal and new beginnings. A positive sign; the Norns say your ability to escape this rut is latent and that change comes from within, like a seed. Maybe this means a change in perspective. Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. I mean, I just compared you to a seed.
FUTURE / EIHWAZ: the rune for "yew." Yew is a type of wood considered to be imbued with powerful magic properties. Likewise, Eihwaz symbolizes protection, strength, motivation, patience, and endurance, particularly as we leave the old behind and move forward into new endeavors. The magic rocks can't tell you exactly what to do but are confident that you'll excel at whatever it is. The Norns are in your corner, as much as omniscient entities can be in anyone's corner.
Ah, it's been a year. Hope it wasn't too rusty.

EeEEEE Oliver you never told me you like to do these thinnnngggs! Mehehe, I have a question for your cards of f a t e. Man i hate open ended questions, they're so hard to properly word. I can do this.
How will my romantic life look by the end of this school year?
How will my romantic life look by the end of this school year?
Does the question have to be for myself?? Asking only beacuse i not only use and understand runes and tarot but my family and i have a very strict rule of NOT reading for anyone and NOT haveing our fates read..but there is someone i know who could use the insite...my infant goddaughter sure could use an answer to a question i dont even know i should be asking sence she isnt technically related to me so iam not sure the connection would be strong enough for an even semi accreate reading.
OMIGOSH NORNS AND NORSE THINGS TAKE MY SOUL!!!!!!!!!!
...I kinda need that, hang on. But EXCITING!!!
So, I've been having a difficult time with friendships: who's loyal, who's going to duck behind my back, etc. Over the summer I cut some people out of my life that were never the best for me in the first place, but now things have gone haywire and I'm just overall confused. Which leads to my question: do truly loyal friends surround me? If that's too open ended, or difficult to read; What type of friend will suit me the most?
Don't know if the rocks take those sorts of questions.

Excellent initiative, I am grateful to you both, this is great fun!
I am very familiar with both runes and tarot cards, although runes speak to me a lot more.
If possible, could you help me with this (mysterious) question (the runes or cards would surely know what I am talking about): I am waiting for a message, will I receive it before Samhain?

My goodness, what a wonderful thing to wake up to! I legit felt all my hairs stand up, and I feel completely energized!
The rune for the past was absolutely accurate. I'm here now because of a huge decision I made after years of thought (i.e. quitting my job). I think the rune is telling me to honor my decision and remember exactly why I made it. There's a reason why I'm here. There's a reason why I'm doing this. Ugh, I'm getting teary-eyed, lol.
I love being compared to a seed! Coincidentally, one of my former usernames had something to do with little, growing seeds, so I'm tickled pink that that showed up.
Thank you so, so much, Yersinia. I'm going to print out a picture of a yew tree now and stare at it all day.

OH, before i get into the readings, i completely forgot to explain the difference between major arcana cards and minor arcana cards.
major arcana: major, life-changing events. as my book explains them, "these cards usually indicate deeply rooted issues within our lives. these cards are extremely powerful and should not be taken lightly in your readings."
minor arcana: specific situations/people. again, my book describes them as, "together the suits of wands, cups, swords, and pentacles make up what's called the minor arcana. cards numbered one through ten usually point to a situation or quality you're experiencing. the eleventh through fourteenth cards (known as the court cards) often represent an actual person in your life."
i made them big so everyone who comes here can hopefully see them lmao. i'm trying to keep it as simple as possible so i don't confuse everyone, and i'll always say if a card is minor or major. the suits also point to specific situations/feelings, so i'll probably add those to readings if a minor arcana card pops up, since these are pretty short readings and won't take too long at all.

i have no idea why that ended up looking so deep fried. ok.
past
the world: major arcana card representing wholeness and competition.
"You have gone through the trials and tribulations of the rest of the Major Arcana, you have endured the hardships and learned your lessons and now you will reap the rewards. You should be proud of what you have achieved, it has not been easy to get here but you’ve done it. The universe is smiling upon you and luck is on your side when this Major Arcana card appears in your reading so grab the opportunities available to you. The World can represent the completion of a challenge such as a university course or a project or can represent finally achieving a dream or aspiration such as starting your own business, getting married or having children. You have reached the point where you can be happy with what you have accomplished. Success can bring a whole new set of challenges or worries so make sure you’re not carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders. You’ve worked hard to get to this point so stop and savour the moment! Celebrate your accomplishments." (full description)
i feel like it's a little odd this appeared in past, since it represents completion. given that your question was about your character, maybe it's saying that, with all of your hard work in writing and character development, you felt confident in your characters and how far you've come with their development. writing can definitely be a challenge, so it seems like this is saying that you've worked very hard to get where you are with your writing skills and your characters. (this explanation feels very repetitive but my tarot reading is very rusty and i just woke up from a 4 hour nap. apologies.)

present
the hermit: major arcana card representing solitude and meditation.
(from my book since i like the description) "The idea of being a "hermit" is not supported in our society, but in the realm of tarot, hermits are highly celebrated and valued creatures. Through meditation, solitude, and stillness, they bring wisdom to all. When this card appears, it's time to step back from the business of day-to-day life and focus on your inner realm. Become more self-aware. If you're intrigued by meditation, start now. Spend time by yourself. Your inner fire is ready to be lit...it will shine for all to see."
again, since this is about your character, i feel like this is saying that you currently are/need to spend a lot of time putting thought into developing this character. not only does it seem to be urging you to spend some time alone and really focus on this character, but i also feel like it's here to remind you to focus on yourself, as well. reconnect with yourself and your needs, and when your mind is clear, focus on making this character. it's difficult to make characters and write when your mind's all cloudy (i know that all too well lmao) so i think this is definitely urging you to become more self-aware through meditation and solitude, and when your mind is more clear and you're (hopefully) feeling more self-assured, you can use these feelings and this new confidence to really focus on your new character.

future
nine of wands: minor arcana card representing strength, stamina, and confidence.
(also from my book) "As nines usually imply, your journey is near competition. but on this final stretch you find yourself growing weary; doubt and fear are running through your mind. The nine of wands asks you to rally your confidence and realize how far you've come. Lift your eyes and take a few more steps...soon all your hard work will start to pay off."
i think this is definitely saying that, pretty soon, you're going to start working on this character and it's all going to go great until you're suddenly hit with some doubt, and perhaps you'll start wondering if this is a good character at all and if you should even use them for roleplays/stories/whatever you have in mind. as the card description says, though, when these fears start to make you feel doubtful, remind yourself how hard you've worked on not only this character, but all of your other characters, too. your hard work will be rewarded, just keep trudging through writing's many frustrations and go for it.
also, before i started the reading, i mentioned that all four suits in the minor arcana tend to represent certain situations. according to biddytarot, "The Suit of Wands Tarot card meanings are associated with primal energy, spirituality, inspiration, determination, strength, intuition, creativity, ambition and expansion, original thought and the seeds through which life springs forth."

so, it sounds like the cards really think you should make this character and that they'll end up being really well-written! good luck and remember to not get too stressed.
OoooOOoOoOooooOOOOOoo~
I'm slightly obsessed with tarot cards and the likes...I'm interested in seeing where this goes.
Lol. I literally just had a three card reading a few months ago but certain aspects of my life have since changed so I'm curious to see what I'll hear this time.
I've never seen or heard of the runes used this way but that looks cool.

@Anais Glad to hear you enjoyed it! Good luck out there, and feel free to stop by if you think of any more questions.
Next round!
EIHWAZ - DAGAZ - NAUTHIZ
PAST / EIHWAZ: I swear I shook up the rock box, but here's Eihwaz again. The rune for "yew" is generally associated with protection and strength, though in the context of careers it can also be interpreted to mean that you've decided on a reasonable goal and have the momentum to achieve it. In this case, I suppose that would mean your decision to start making music.
PRESENT / DAGAZ: the rune for "day" usually entails clarity and awareness, except that in this instance I drew it in opposition (Dagaz can't be murkstave, but it can 'oppose' the runes around it.) This alters its meaning slightly to forewarn against proverbial blindness or feelings of limitation, which it sounds like you might be experiencing at the moment. However, because Dagaz represents the delicate balance between night and day, it's also very changeable. Which brings us to-
FUTURE / NAUTHIZ: the rune for "necessity" or "need" is a positive one to get for the future slot. While on one hand it can indicate that you're feeling unfulfilled or unsure and that this may be holding you back, facing resistance can lead to innovation and self-reliance. You're the master of your own fate, so to speak. In regards to your music career, overall this set of runes is encouraging you to keep going until you hit a breakthrough. Easier said than done, but solid advice from the Norns.
It might be of interest to you that two of your three runes are from Heimdall's aett (sphere of influence), which is generally associated with self-betterment and evolution.
I've never tried a reading for a question like this, since runes aren't really geared towards it, so apologies if the rock box lets you down.
WUNJO - PERTHRO - RAIDHO
PAST / WUNJO: the rune for "joy" is pretty self-explanatory. It indicates balance and contentment despite potential chaos; so maybe you've had a rocky (haha) past, but for the most part you've been able to find happiness where you can.
PRESENT / PERTHRO: the rune for "lot cup" or "dice cup" represents, unsurprisingly, chance. Life is full of uncertainties. I've read that murkstave Perthro can warn against unchecked vices; addiction, self-isolation, stagnation, etc. Do with that what you will. Incidentally, Perthro also symbolizes the free will required to avoid these things.
FUTURE / RAIDHO: normally the rune for "wagon" or "wheel" indicates change and our forwards motion through life. Murkstave, it warns against bumps in the proverbial road that could lead to the end of our journeys-- things like stagnation, irrationality, and delusion. It's odd that both of your murkstave runes have to do with issues of the self. The Norns may be asking you to consider that you can be your own worst enemy.
Next round!

How about a good ol' round of how am I going to die?
Ah man, it's cool seeing you both come together on one thread! Thanks for taking the time to do these by the way!
I wanna know what the rocks or cards have to say about me trying to get better emotionally, if that makes sense? Like if my quest for help will be like rocky or smooth or whatever.

@Beldesia you can ask questions for anyone you'd like. I'm a complete hack lmao so my accuracy will be about the same no matter who it is.
@Orrik welcome friend, did you have a specific question in mind?
Here's a couple more.
Oliver was busy so I took a stab at this one, hope you don't mind!
INGUZ - WUNJO - BERKANO
PAST / INGUZ: this is the rune for the earth god Ing, meaning "seed" or "fertility." Generally, what it symbolizes is a form of emotional or mental growth, but growth that occurs internally; withdrawing into the safety of our minds to do some soul searching, for example. It's possible you've decided to pursue romance after a deal of thought and figuring out who you are. Inguz is another rune that can't be drawn murkstave but can lie in opposition. For this reading, it could mean you've hit some snags in your introspection, but it was nothing you couldn't handle.
PRESENT / WUNJO: the rune for "joy" is common to see in relationship readings. It indicates contentment, hope, and harmony. Maybe you haven't found who you're looking for yet, but it hasn't affected your sense of wellbeing, and you're in a good place to keep moving forward.
FUTURE / BERKANO: the rune for "birch." Berkano is another fertility rune like Inguz, once again in the sense of a seed. It indicates renewal and new beginnings. Overall, this is a very positive reading! Your prospects look good. Even if things don't pan out, the Norns see that you've done a lot of reflection and growing and you should be proud.
Two of your three runes are in the god Tyr's aett. His sphere of influence often has to do with transition and re-creation.
Your enthusiasm is much appreciated! I decided to try your first question, although the second would also be interesting to tackle.
FEHU - DAGAZ - SOWILO
PAST / FEHU: normally, the rune for "cattle" indicates power, wealth, success in the social sphere, and general prosperity. Murkstave, it indicates that something has gone wrong and caused you to lose these things; in your case, harmony in your social sphere. But I mean, you already knew that, because otherwise you wouldn't be here. Thanks rocks.
PRESENT / DAGAZ: the rune for "day" cannot be murkstave but may lie in opposition. Normally it represents the clarity and awareness that comes with daylight. In opposition, it indicates the confusion and blindness that can come with night. As you said, things have gone haywire and you're at a loss for what to do.
FUTURE / SOWILO: it's kind of poetic that you got the rune for "sun" here. It represents the ability to see things for what they are and make positive, decisive changes. Some would also interpret it to mean 'cleansing fire.' So, it seems like the runes dodged your question a little. Or maybe they're saying you have to judge for yourself if the people around you are loyal and act accordingly. To phrase it more ominously, "you know what you need to do."
