With Christmas coming along with winter. Changing leaves snow and wind chills at least where i live. What's the best present that may have changed your life and you remember the most? Mine was a fender bass my parents bought for me out of a pawn shop for a Christmas present. I finally had a instrument of mine own to perform and practice without having to stay after school using a school instrument. What was the best present you remember receiving?
I can't choose one.
A past boyfriend of mine learned how to knit just to make me an octopus hat because he knows I love hats and I loooove octopus.
I have a strange dilemma where whenever I find my "favorite" of something, it immediately stops being sold and becomes impossible to find. This happened to me with some perfume I really really loved, so one of my friends found it for me and also gave me a "recipe" to make some of my own. I have no idea how she figured out the recipe though. It was handwritten on some pretty parchment that looked like it would suit a wedding invitation. Her handwriting is really pretty too, so I treasure that paper lol.
That friend I mentioned before also bought me a cute llama plushie and found me a tiny banana shaped lip balm that she put in an equally tiny little box. Somehow she found wrapping paper that had octopuses with santa hats to wrap it in. The banana thing was a reference to the year before when I gave her a plastic banana as a gag gift right before I gave her the real gift. She's an amazing gift giver.
My mom bought me a necklace with a beautiful key charm that I mentioned to her one time. We just passed by it and I said something along the lines of "Oh I would love a necklace with a key like that" so she went back and bought it.
My mom also surprised me with a "cage" locket containing a green pearl. She wanted to do an unboxing video for Facebook and wanted me to do the unboxing because she thinks my hands are pretty, lol. I opened up a cutesy box with a letter and some pearls inside, and then a necklace along with it. She asked me which pearl was my favorite and I said the green one, so she was like "Okay! Let's put that one in your new necklace." Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the necklace was for me. She kept the rest of the pearls to make a bracelet. Also, it turns out she decided to make the video to help promote the pearl lady's business, so that was nice of her. I'm fond of gifts that sometimes double as a way to help other people.
Oh, and one time I was having an absolutely terrible week that I wrote about in a journal for school. In it I said something along the lines of "all I wanted was some pie" as somewhat of a joke. My teacher responded by buying me a whole ass pie the next day. It caught me so off guard that I cried right in front of him. I really needed some pie that week.
I realize that a lot of these aren't necessarily interesting gifts, but the thoughtfulness and presentation is what really got to me.

That's tough. Maybe when my ex took me to Florida and I got to swim with a dolphin and I think that was just a random gift, not for a holiday.
I got a shirt with a humpback whale on it that was really neat one time. It was all blue and very mysterious and artistic.
Oh...lol...my best friend had the best pillow I've ever slept on and I freaked out about it when I went back to visit her after over a year apart and she had more than one of them (they are the best pillows but I can't figure out where to buy them because the tag is worn off), so she gave it to me. That was like 10 years ago and I still have the pillow. Its got a hole in it but I still sleep on it every day! So that was meaningful.
Also, my uncle brought me back a wooden carved statue from Indonesia, where he lived and worked for decades, and I still have it. It reminds me of him. When I was a kid he asked me what he wanted him to bring back for me. I didn't know what they had in Indonesia, I was a little kid, but I knew it was an island. I think maybe I had seen a picture of Easter Island, with all those gigantic stone statues on it, you know? And as a little kid, I assumed all islands were wild, uninhabited, and had gigantic stone statues on them! So I thought, he's going back to an island...what can he bring me...I don't know!...what do they have on an island?!?! They were pressuring me for an answer, because he was about to leave, so I blurted out: "A statue?"
Lolol! And my mom and my Uncle frowned and said, "A statue? Are you sure? A statue? That's what you want?" Because that's not something you would expect a kid to ask for. But I had no idea what else to say so I nodded and said with more certainty, "Yes. Bring me a statue back, please."
And I expected him to bring back a huge statue like the ones on Easter Island (haha!), and months later or a year later when brought me back that little, dark, wooden statue about the size of a ruler (it's a statue of a young, Indonesian woman with a beautiful headdress on), I was actually a little disappointed. But it was always there and reminded me of him even when we couldn't see him (we usually only got t see him around Christmas, if that often), so eventually I grew to love that thing, and still do.
It's one of the things I move first when I move, along with my grandmother's paintings and my journals.
I thought I didn't have one but I guess I do!

Awwww. I love the teacher story.
Probably something I've forgotten for the moment. But I do have something I think is worth sharing. Um, warning for some emotional stuff?
I'm a bit of a pack rat, especially for things I think I can do something crafty with or reuse. (Lots of garbage.) One of the common items is wrapping paper. I have generally tried to open presents carefully so that I might be able to reuse the wrapping paper for something, since it's usually quite pretty.
One Christmas, my grandpa got sick of waiting for me to get the gift from him open. I was pretty much done pulling it out, even, when he suddenly grabbed it from me and ripped up all the paper before handing it back. Honestly, the man's lucky that I'm garbage at expressing anger and automatically hold back on pretty much everything, because I was pissed. All I could really do was stare and kinda back into a corner.
A little later, when everything was done with, my aunt brought me what was left of that roll of wrapping paper, neatly folded. I feel I should add that, growing up, that side of the family had always favored my older brother (much as they denied it, it was always easy for everyone to see). Additionally, their lifestyle and ideology (they're redneck yuppies) has always been foreign to me, so I never really felt close to them. But here was my aunt, offering me a silly bit of wrapping paper because she had noticed and cared to try to fix it. I seriously almost cried.

Awwww. That's sweet.
You all come up with such great topics. Not the best at ongoing conversation, myself- but always love learning more about you all.❤️
My best gift would be for my birthday just after meeting my now husband. I grew up rough and went straight into a bad marriage so holidays and birthdays were a very bitter time for me. Times when normally I’d feel like an extra target was on my back and expectations of any kind were just asking for disaster.
Enter my husband, who I’d only been dating for two months at that point. He asked what I wanted for my birthday and I immediately withdrew and told him just a day with him, not trusting even that would be possible. He took the day off, rented a plane from his boss and flew me to the forest up north.
We walked around this tiny airport in the woods for a while, dreamed up future vacations, talked about anything I wanted to, then ate lunch at the little diner there which it turned out, was very well known for its amazing pie(which was why he brought me there). Then he flew me back and sat with me under the stars until the early hours of the morning. It was the most peaceful and perfect birthday I’ve ever had. He’s since done this for every bad holiday, I think he’s purposely going through and replacing every bad memory which is mind blowing for me that people like this even exist.

The best present I ever received isn't a traditional kind of present that one thinks of. My .. best present came from my Papa, and I know I mention him a lot in my posts on the forums, but um, the best present I got was a compliment he gave me.
There's something wonderful when you go through so much in life even though your time on this earth isn't finished and you're lucky enough to have someone tell you that they're proud of you basically every time you see them, and my Papa did that for me. But more profoundly was a day that he was in hospital, leading up to his death, and it broke my heart because here's the man who gave me my love for nature stuck in a hospital room. Completely sterile, recycled air, the part of the window that can actually open is this tiny slit in the view, it practically does nothing. I was sitting there on the side of his bed trying not to cry and I muster up the courage to say "I wish I could bring you a jar of ocean breeze, something. Just something! I hate that you're cooped up in here." And he reached out, touched my hand, smiled at me and said "You are the ocean breeze."
Nothing can top that for me, and I doubt anything ever will.

The best present I ever got was my mom giving me a life to live honestly. Before I was born, my two older brother's and older sister was taken by CPS here in Michigan. My mom and her sister had talked since my mom was carrying me. They talked about my aunt adopting me so my birth mother could still see me from time to time. My aunt agreed and thus I was born. I was a premature baby and only weighed 3'11 when I was born. I had to have a bunch of surgery's to fix my insides. I was in a clear box thing and had all kinds of wires hooked up to me. I was born on December 21st and I got to go home with my adopted mom on Christmas day. Before that, none of the nurses could get me to eat. When my adopted mom was there, I would eat for her and only her. It's because of God that I'm alive today. Today I'm married and have been for about five years now. I was 21 and she was 24 when we got married. Been together since I was 16 and she was 19. I love her so much. And o thank God for her as well. And o loved everyone's story. I really enjoyed reading them! Great idea for a post! One thing I forgot to state was that my adopted dad and mom got a divorce when I was 3 and she moved back with me to Michigan where most of our family is. I never got to know him and I found out in 2012 or 2013, I don't remember which, that he passed away in 2007. I was 14 back then. Anyway thanks for reading my post on here!😁
It's tough to pin it down, I've gotten many memorable presents over the years, but one of my favorite types of gifts to get is art. When a friend puts an effort into creating something, using their own skill and time, it means a great deal to me. I don't have all the art I've received uploaded, but I keep all the art I get. I have things from the past decade set away in a flash drive.
Like Lib, I super love getting art. I rarely ever do, so it blows me away when I get it. I feel so special.
My favorite gift though, was my top surgery. I couldn't have done it on my own, and between friends and my husband, I was able to get it done and taken care of. Because of everyone involved, I feel a little happier in my skin and that's one hell of a present.

i can quite honestly say the best gift i have ever recieved was life introducing me to my girlfriend. she is unendingly wonderful and magical!
uhh...content/trigger warning???
We ended up falling in love 2 years later and have now been together for almost 7 years. When I was younger I suffered with suicidal thoughts and ideations, several failed suicide attempts, and scars (both from attempts and self harm) that will be with me for my entire life. My last attempt was at 17, and my now-husband (who at the time was just someone I knew in passing) stopped me in the hall as I was leaving to attempt. He pulled me aside and grabbed my arm and said "one day, someone is going to be sad to see those scars, you should stop." He gave me a sad smile, squeezed my arm, and walked away. The thing was I never talked to anyone about my attempts or my struggles with self harm, no one had ever seen my scars (fresh or otherwise), and as far as anyone else knew I was happy, just awkward and angry.
So the best present I have ever been given was given to me by my husband: the will, desire, and a reason to live.
He has since been a huge help in me achieving small goals and dreams over the last 7 years (things like crazy hair cuts/colors, tattoos, living on the west coast, etc), encouraged me to go back to therapy without making me feel like I was being forced and letting me do it in my own time at my own pace, and supported my decision to not be medicated unless absolutely necessary. He has helped me gain professional experience in an office setting, helped me learn how to work in a restaurant, and just generally been my number 1 supporter in all things. He is amazing, and I hope everyone can find someone like him for themselves.
The Best Present?
Was my husbands valentines day gift. And I usually haaaaaaaaaaaaate valentines day. But he had made this so sweet. A "ticket" system. Where, at any point in time no matter what is going on, I can show him a ticket and he HAS to do it. Some of them have unlimited uses, some of them only a few days. But the thought of it was so sweet, and I still have them today

I can't remember what the occasion was, but my roommate found me a really neat item that somehow encapsulates everything I love. It is:
Its name is Orpheus. I haven't put it together yet, but I'm blown away by how she found this item in the probable shape of my actual soul just... being sold somewhere!
I think it's really nice when people notice the things we do and show us support in nice ways, is all.
- a wooden puzzle
- in the shape of a robot
- that contains a music box
- which glows when it plays music.

Ahaha, on a slightly more bummer note,
but one that still strikes me as being really sweet, shortly after my stepdad passed away a couple years ago, I downloaded a bunch of really chill apps onto my phone to help me relax and keep from getting so wound up all the time. Little things with no emotional content - just really calm. Digital fish tanks, digital gardens, digital cross stitch. That kinda thing.
My roommate's sister noticed my interest in the cross stitch app and got me some of my first patterns - and they're just as wonderful in real life as on the apps, if not more so! I love having something like these that I can do with my hands, that I'm steadily getting better at, and that eventually result in lovely little pieces of art when I've finished them.

Best present I got a long time ago was a lumberjack axe from my mentor, may she rest in peace...
But last year I got a Karambit knife from my SO. Badass AF. Used it for a lot of bushcraft projects even tho Karambits are not meant for that.

There were a few good presents along the way. I have to say that the one I really remember as being the most awesome, was on my 16th birthday my dad gave me his old car. It was a life-changer. It was the day I went to get my drivers License, and it was the day I moved from my bicycle being my main mode of transport to being fully mobile as long as I had money for fuel.
I loved that car. I would work on it and learned much of my mechanical skills under that car or under its hood. Dad was going to sell it, and could have gotten a fair amount of money for it, but instead he taped the key to a birthday card and gave it to me at the little celebration we had where my first girlfriend had baked me a cake. It was quite the present that ol' Ford.
