Hey every one!! I'm kinda new to posting to these forums, but I was hoping maybe you guys could help me with something. I think I might have either a bit of writers block or I might just be bored with everything I've done up to this point.

I'm trying to wright a new description for my character, Mianne since I finished her character reference sheet. So I get home from work, sit my butt down at the computer, pull up MS Word and...... Nothing. Maybe I just have no creativity today? I just really don't want to start the description with the same 'ol same 'ol "the girl stood 5'3"..." or "The intoxicating scent of whatever would lead one to glance towards the girl."

Maybe I'm wrong in wanting something new, a description that is a little more advanced.... But I really can not think of anything!!! Help? x-x

I always run into the same issue, but at the same time I try to remember that a description isn't supposed to be a poetic piece of art! ;) Its purpose is to create a clear picture of the character in the reader's mind, and purple prose can be very distracting from that.

If you get too fancy with a description (using too many metaphors, unnecessarily fancy words from the thesaurus), the reader will not be able to imagine what they look like, and that makes your description effectively useless.

I try to reserve the fancy writing for the roleplay. A description needs to be to the point and concise, and trying to be more special there can deter people from properly admiring your character!
Be concise. Progress from the most general to the most specific. Whatever people notice first should go first in your description. Avoid second person. Avoid padding.
