Sam's mouth goes dry as cotton. This girl really doesn't know anything. She turns to face Blaine, the hopeful expression on the girl's face stealing her breath away. It had been a long time since she'd seen what hope looked like. So long she'd nearly forgotten it existed. The thoughts pile behind her teeth, waiting for her to give them voice, but she couldn't bear to extinguish the light in Blaine's gentle eyes. Not yet. Instead, she continues up the stairwell.

"Let's not worry about that tonight, 'kay? We'll get you some food, a warm, safe place to rest, and talk supplies in the morning."

They make their way up to the top floor. Sam knocks a few times and the echo of a lock clicking back shakes the stairwell. She motions for Blaine to follow and they enter the large room together. Sam winces as the entire room explodes into whispers. She weaves her way in and out of the rows of cots, looking for two empty ones side-by-side. The girls ghost their steps with their curious stares.

She stops at a clean pair of cots and pats one gently. "You go ahead and get comfy. I'll find you some food."

Blaine tries to fight the nervousness that wells up inside her with all the eyes she sensed on her. She looks at Sam.

"T-thank you!" she says almost too loudly.
