So originally I was going to call the realm I'm creating 'Anathesuan' but I couldn't really come up with a reason why. However, I've grown rather... Well, I don't really like the name anymore but am struggling to come up with a new one and have a reason for it.

So, anybody have any ideas?
You should check out the God of War game realms, like Misgard, or however you spell the rest of them. God of War is a video game in the setting of norse mythology.

You could always try a name generator and see if any of those strike your fancy.
Naming places can be both easier and harder than naming people.

I often say names, words, or noises until I like how something is sounding.

The tricky bit to remember is that a land reflects its people and vice versa. Consider Ukraine and Hawaii as examples.

And to help the feeling of being a nation, try playing around with certain endings.

-a or - ia (America, Arabia, Nova Scotia, etc)
-land (Scotland, England, Ireland, Iceland, etc)

Or pick a region you want to reference and look at how they name things.

Er, just the latest. The original trilogy were set in ancient Greece. And it's probably Midgard, not Misgard, unless they changed it for some reason. ^^;
Ooops, I meant Midgard, and yes I also know he was originally from greece.
Lately, when I've had to name locations, I've tried to consult real-life toponyms and lists of geographical features. I figure, why not try to name them like real-life people might have done?

I tend to like Germanic-language words, but like, I just try to decide on something random a place has/might have had a derive a name from it. Like, oh, I just decided this place was built where a grove of oak trees is, so I'll find words that mean "oak" or "tree" or "grove" or "place" - Accley, Ockshaw, Ercwych, or even just Oak Grove.

Named a country "Albedonia" once because "albedo" is a word that refers to how light reflects off a surface and "-ia" can be a suffix for a place name, so I was just like, "Hm, yes, 'the place so bright that it's like a light reflecting out at the world,' a beacon of civility, very good."

Also, though? Sometimes y'just gotta feel some syllables in your heart and string them puppies together, y'know? Or-- did you know that in the Dragon Age video games, the place name, Thedas, comes from the words "The Dragon Age Setting"?

I think it's about striking the right balance between believable and fun to say. XD And I believe in you!
