The boy understood that the man wasn't human, but aside from having wings he couldn't see much difference between Pier and most humans so his not being human was a weak argument at best in the boy's eyes. "Are you stupid?" the boy asked, "I haven't hid anything from you," the boy replied puzzled. Sure there were some questionable magazines at the bottom of his backpack but he doubted that was what the man was referring to and it was just common sense to hide those. "I don't know what you're upset about," Victor told the man. He didn't really care that much if he traveled with Pier or not, but the man had seen him and knew his name and what he looked like, even where he lived - what was to stop him from going to the police or someone about the missing boy from the mental hospital? Nothing, that's what. "I haven't started any trouble. They aren't wanted posters, they're to help bad people," he said, "Why are you sooo stupid?!" This line of questioning was not to the boy's liking and though the man didn't sound mad past experiences told the boy that the man had to be pretending to be this calm about such an issue. "I'm hiding me from the bad people. ..... Some of them pretend to be nice ....." the boy muttered as he shoved the coin that hung around his neck into his mouth and started to suck on it nosily to sooth himself.

Pieridae shook his head, this was going no where. He looked up the road and then back at Victor. "Well whatever it is, Victor, as long as you aren't in any trouble it is irrelevant to me. Come, let us continue. Are you hungry?"

The boy rolled his eyes. True he hadn't caused any trouble that he would admit to, but he was in trouble. He wasn't in the kind of trouble the fae seemed to be worried about, but he was still in trouble. He shook his head when the man asked if he was hungry. With the coin in his mouth he wasn't able to say much.

Pieridae shrugged at Victor's response to the ending of the conversation. He looked about. "Well I am hungry. Would you like any food from anywhere in particular? I would prefer to conserve what I have for my days in the forest." He tapped his pack as he spoke about his food.

The boy shrugged and shook his head. He could have spat out the coin so he could speak, but he chose not to. When the fae continued to walk and look for restaurant the young man followed him.

Pieridae spotted one up the road, a small diner called 'The Corner Side Diner". He figured it would be a good enough place, it looked small wich would mean they wouldn't have to deal with many people, so Pieridae started in that direction. When he reached the diner he opened the door and a ding sounded over his head. A waitress came and sat the two in a booth, they were each given a menu before she left.

Pieridae sighed, he prefered the woods but sometimes it was nice to sit in a small diner, there was something about them. "Are you sure you wouldn't like anything?" He looked over the menu another time, he figured the teen might want something to drink. "Milkshake?"

Victor flinched when the door's chime went off but he continued to follow Pier into the diner. The boy slid into the booth across from the man and read the menu silently to himself. He pulled the string at his neck to remove the coin from his mouth without spitting it out. The coin was wet with saliva and stuck to his shirt where it touched it. "I guess so," he said when asked if he would like a milkshake. "Who's paying for it?" he asked the man.

Pieridae took his crude leather wallet out at waved it. "I am." Then he picked up the menu and began searching, he decided he would just go with a soup, that was in his comfort range. After a bit the nurse came back and asked what they would like to drink. "Water and a milkshake, please," he responded. Then the girl left and returned with what was asked for.

"Would you two like to order now?" She asked. Pieridae looked to Victor for an answer, he himself was ready.

"Cheeseburger. Rare. With fries," the boy said to the waitress. It seemed he had found his appetite at some point while they were waiting. He took a straw from the dispenser at the table and tore the paper off the end and blew into the straw to send the rest of the wrapper shooting across the table. He placed the straw into the milkshake and mixed it up before taking a sip.

After writing down Victor's order the waitress looked to Pieridae. "Soup of the day, please. Thats all." The waitress nodded, finished writing, and walked back towards the kitchen. Pieridae sat quietly as he waited for the food to arrive, he didn't know what to say.

((I leave for camp tomorrow and will be gone until next saturday))

Victor sucked hard at the straw to get the thick milkshake up it and into his mouth. He slurped his desert drink almost contently as his eyes darted around taking in everything and everyone around them, as well as all the exits. "Burgers are better than soup," he said quietly having had enough of his milkshake for the time being. He fidgeted in his seat, swaying his legs back and forth and shifted from side to side making the vinyl on the seat squeak. A few customers looked their way but none seemed very interested in the odd boy or the man with him. Victor covered his mouth with a fist and coughed against it. He craned his head back and stared up at the ceiling then looked around the room. "She was pretty and nice," he said of their waitress though with as much time that had passed he could have been speaking about any 'she' in the area for all anyone knew.

Pieridae sipped at his water. It had a different taste that he was trying to place. He was used to streams or spickets. This was different, but only slightly. Tap water. He shrugged mentaly, he didn't care, it was cleaner than alot of water had had. When the boy spoke Pieridae looked up at him, breaking his train of curiosity. He looked around the dinner, no other lady had come by, it must have been the waitress. "I suppose so," said the hunter and did another too-often shrug.

"You suppose so?" the boy asked, "Don't you like girls? Or were you too busy thinking to know what was going on around you?" He'd clearly hear that last line somewhere the way he recited it rather than spoke it. It didn't take much longer before the waitress returned with their food. "Do you need anything else?" she asked them as Victor examined his burger. The boy lifted each section up to see what exactly was in it before taking a bite.

"I am interested in the opposite gender like most. I just don't have time." He took a sip of his drink as the waitress came back. He nodded when she talked and said "no, thank you." When she left Pieridae blew on his soup and stirred it.

"How do you not have time? What are you busy with?" the boy asked as he slowly. He cut is his cheeseburger into quarters and picked up one and bit into it then took a long sip of his milkshake as he waited for the fae to reply. Their waitress was seating the two hunters from earlier at a nearby table. Victor frowned when he noticed this and tried to ignore them since they were too busy ordering to pay attention to the boy and Pier in the booth across the aisle from them.

Pieridae answered with a simple word. "Surviving," he said as he shrugged, eating more of his soup. He, too, noticed the two men sit down across the diner. "Don't look right now, hunters right across the diner, the angry ones." Pieridae had a hint of his icy tone back in his voice when he talked about them.

"So? That isn't a very good reason," the boy said, "Animals survive and they aren't too busy." That the relationship between a mated pair of beasts was very different than a healthy relationship between a devoted human couple seemed lost on the teen. He glanced over at the other table discreetly. "Do you think they'll cause trouble for us?" he asked the man across from him as he took another bite of his burger wedge.

"Haven't noticed us yet, wont until they do. Just behave." He then answered the boy's question. "Have you seen any female faes out and about? Or any living in the woods for that matter?" He shrugged, as he so often did.

"I don't think so, but before I first saw you I don't think I'd seen any of them at all before," Victor answered. "Do you only like girls with wings?," he asked the man.

Pieridae shrugged, although if he was anyone else he probably would have smiled. "No, but do any females take interest in a smaller race who is different than them?" He shook his head no.
