Or do they just...look cool?
I'm just curious, haha. I probably just didn't see something. I am quite blind. But I was curious, do they actually do something or do they just look really cool?

If you have one in your inventory (not on display), you can "use" it a infinite number of times. When used, it'll give a message about some goody sound it makes or action it does, and dressing it up will give you different messages. (Dress-up items are single use. If you apply one and then another, the first simply ceases to exist.) There is no practical use, just a bit of personal silliness.
They're a reference to an April Fool's joke when all accolades were replaced with walruses. People liked them enough that Kim decided to make them available for keeps.

Ooh, that sounds fun, ha! Yeah, I was just curious if they changed something specific or if they were just adorable cute things.
Also, during Epic week, if you have a Walrus in your inventory (or on display) they will randomly defend you and soak damage from monsters.

.. I did not know this, and now knowing, Walruses seem all the more worthwhile. So much love for EW

A friend sent me a screenshot of this when it happened to them with their walrus lol, we both laughed until we passed out just about

Okay, Walruses are officially a part of the definition of bad-assery in my books.
