Projecting goals for ourselves at the end of a year is an annual tradition for some: lose weight, gain weight, start school, get a new job. But what about your roleplay objectives? Do you want to make new partners, find new settings, keep what you already have going? Do you have any specific goals for yourself as a writer, or for your individual characters? What are your hopes for the writing realm over the next year?
Oh this is a good one! I was just talking today about my New Year's resolutions revolving around RP. They're all personal as opposed to relating to my OCs, but I basically want to branch out, get out of my comfort zone, RP more with different people as I've generally confined myself to one or two people except for special occasions (I.E. events), and also I want to hold myself more accountable for discord RP and get more going at once without dropping the ball!
I've been working on a massive plot with some friends that I'm really thrilled to bring to fruition. It's coming close to a climax and I think about it on the daily. I'm also bringing back some old characters that have been sitting on shelves for too long, like my centaur Rigamus who I'm hoping will get some meaty development. Same for my elf Trinitera, who's one of my favorites to play (but hard to pin down)! I've got a great group going and I'm looking forward to us all moving into a fresh setting soon. Going into 2019 with inspiration on the rise, pouring my motivation into the old and the new.
p r e a c h. It's so healthy for the imagination to experience new places and people once in awhile!

I really want to finish my new Fantasy World Toryn. I've been working on it since June and I've gotten absolutely nowhere with it because I get distracted and un-motivated easily. I really want to get it finished by this time next year, or at least half way or 3/4 of the way done.
I'm involved in a large plot project that I hope will really come to life this year. A lot of time and energy already has been invested in this and it has been a labor of love.
I would like to take more time for myself, however, while doing this. I would like to invest a lot more time into my own OCs than I have in a long time and create plots for just them. A lot of times I feel kind of guilty trying to place focus on my characters when there are so many in a community that deserve growth and storytelling of their own.

I'm going to get back into posting at least once a week, even if they aren't good posts. It beats waiting literal months for me to reply lmao
Honestly, I'd just like to be more confident in asking people to RP with me rather than feeling intimidated. I'm a good writer, I doubt myself for no reason, and I want to quit it with that garbage.
To be honest, I was really happy with my RP in 2018. While a lot of people would consider my activity level to be on the low side, it actually was perfect for me.
But I want to push myself in terms of writing style and create lots of art for the RPs I love.

I really want to branch out play with more people. In the last year I've started to branch out a bit, but I ran into a problem where I was still only playing with the same five people and some of them weren't good for me. They did not drive me forward; I want to meet more people and play more things. I want to keep going forward. Improve my writing.
Also, with a writing goal in mind, I want to write in a more dynamic way. I started to do this in the last year, but I want my writing and my RP posts to be lyrical and fun to read. I like making jokes and funny quips and I want to get better at it.

It's been so long since I actually did any roleplaying. I want to finish my characters (one in particular, honestly) and get back into RP! I'd especially love to find a nice, stable RP group. I don't like 1 on 1's much but maybe I could try some more of those out too.
I've come a long way this year as far as roleplaying goes. I've branched out. I've learned to allow people personal growth and give second chances where previously I had closed doors. Im throwing myself into a group and community I love and helping it thrive as much as I can in 2019. My biggest goal is to stop letting other people ruin my hobby, no matter who that person is. I have the power to make sure roleplay continues to be an enjoyable experience for me, and I need to remember that!
I think mine would be to be less afraid of joining open rps and reach out to more people that I want to try and roleplay with but have always been too nervous to ask as I wonder if they'd even consider roleplaying with me.
Also stop letting people walk over me, ignoring me, and basically treating me like a back burner friend. I need to start standing up for myself when it comes to my rp partners and stop letting people hurt me while I try to be a good rp partner.
I don't know if it'll make it happen, but that's what I want to happen.

WATCH ME JUST make this about ALL KINDS OF THINGS. NO SONYA STOP.
Personally:
Other than the whole every year a new list type of ordeal where I want to loose the extra 30 pounds I gained from depression/anxiety + working through my grief for the loss of my aunt. It's really hard to pin point personally where I'd like to be because I always felt like I needed to live up to a certain expectation that I ended up getting frustrated/overwhelmed/depressed over or that my goals for myself are just all over the map. Honestly? In my mind, I really would like to be able to be more productive as a person and land a job that will ensure financial security/stability for myself and my dogs. If that doesn't occur than to grow my personal business on etsy to the point where I can pull a Cheyenne/sugarbones and have my own website and sell out as soon as I stock items. + start a dog kennel/breeding Aussies because best breed NA + Travel more? especially to visit family members or to go to places I have been really wanting to go to such as Japan. + Learn German.
I THINK OVER ALL HOWEVER? AND THIS IS APPLICABLE TO EVERYTHING in life-rp-art-w/e is not to get so sucked up in to drama? Or getting worked up over someone who may treat you like a second class citizen in the relationship you may call friendship or even just overall. That being honest and true to yourself so long as you're not being derogatory and harmful is important in every regard and sometimes that may include cutting out toxic relationships or distancing yourself from things that may cause you harm.
Art:
I want to get faster. I feel like I am a master procrastinator and I get distracted by staring at tumblr/pinterest/rpr. And I'd like to end this so i d at least produce one thing every 3 to 4 days?
IMPROVE on hands/feet those things b. tricky and drawing things like men or monster/animals.
RP:
- I would really like to branch out and like Lemon and Owelle stated 'get out of my comfort zone' and ask new or even once established people to participate in roleplays. i.e stop being intimidated in forging new friendships with people. So far it seems like I have done that but I want more, and i want to become a beautiful rp tree.
- I would really like to have more meatier plots and story points for some of my favored characters than acquaintances and parties -rubbing elbows and having kind of...for the lack of better terms unenthusiastic role-play endeavors. Sometimes those kinds of events are insanely dry, clique-ish and end up being my character posting 3 times to get the quote and bouncing out of boredom or no one looking their way ever.
- encouraging communication between roleplay partners and friendships to suss out what works, doesn't work and the whole kit-kaboodle. So that way hurt feelings and misunderstandings can be avoided; even if its awkward or painful to do its better than being upset or upsetting others in the process when they attempt to inquire about what is going on and x y z . Ghosting, shit spreading or group stigmatization ain't chill nor an acceptable method of communicating you're over an rp, a friendship/interaction. Come on guys.
- I'd like to get back in to roleplaying masculine characters again. I used to only rp men and suddenly I was just nah, over it. I'd like to get over that stigma.

Writing stories with others and being able to keep up my muse and reply in a timely manner. - Do you want to make new partners, find new settings, keep what you already have going?
Yes to all.. Right now going in to 2019. I want to keep what I've got going, and get started on what was planned for the start of 2019. - Do you have any specific goals for yourself as a writer.
Yes, always wanting to learn better writing technique. - Goals for your individual characters?
Try and flesh out my characters and update their histories based on their RPs. And remember tho save their character sheets in case of a server crash. - What are your hopes for the writing realm over the next year?
Hopes are always to see beautiful stories written between people. I think one goal of mine is to write more public RPs.
So I recently started RPing again (like within the past week) so I could flesh out some characters I've been working on (on and off) for the past 6 or so years.
I recently hired an illustrator to turn my characters' backstories into a graphic novel (graphic as in 'comic style' not graphic as in 'yikes', though there may be some of that). After I gave her the prologue, I sat at my computer for a long time, wondering how to start chapter 1.
After RPing with these characters for less than a week, I've finally figured out how to start.
So I guess for the coming year, I would like to continue rediscovering these characters, backstory and personality-wise, and finally hammer out at least the first 10 or so chapters.

- I'd like to find several separate roleplays to rotate between so that I can move onto weekly posts without getting impatient over waiting for a response from just one
- Find a way to mitigate 'talking heads'. Sometimes I'll realise a session has turned into nothing but quotation and dialogue tags with our characters standing around in a void. This makes my enthusiasm for a RP nosedive. It feeds into pacing issues because we end up back-and-forthing while not actually doing anything and the whole thing winds up feeling like an IC chat. I currently try to prevent this by fleshing out an environment I can describe to liven things up but it kinda saddens me when the other person doesn't pick up on this to use to their advantage. I'm not publishing a chapter for you to read, I'm roleplaying with you!
- Fill in character profiles because the gaping blank spaces under each heading bothers me.
- Roleplay a female character. I don't know why I don't but I feel like I should, just to make things balanced.

I've gotta say, I appreciate and encourage all of those who made it a resolution to reach out to others! One of my best RP partners told me she was too shy to talk to me for two years. We've made so many stunning character connections since we finally spoke, and sometimes we joke about how "we could have been doing this two years ago". I understand it's tough for those with social anxiety to brave that unknown. But the worst that can happen is, your ideas don't mesh and the show goes on. Take the risk, reach out, you never know when you might make a new long-term partner 😌

Yes, I get everything you list here! On the Character blank pages, I have one who I've been using fairly regular, but his page is blank because I had written it out in detail when I created him and he got zombied back on December 6. Now, I can't remember any of what I wrote up for him even though I recreated the character. So yeah, filling out character pages is an RP New Year resolution. That said, I have edited and fleshed out two already.
My RP resolution is to think more. Though I write a lot, I feel like my characters don't have much meaningful depth that makes me wish to put in time playing them. Anyone else wishing to put that spark back?
