I have actually noticed that for each character there is a section that says friends.... How can you add friends, family and all that to the lists?

On your characters profile they’ll be a tab you can open. In it it’ll say connect. Then you can connect that character with one of you own characters. If you want to connect a character with other players, you just go to their characters profile and find the connect button, then you can connect them as any of those with your own characters.
