Seeking writers of age 16+
Charles Wentzworth, or "Chuck," is the most cynical character you'll ever have the displeasure of meeting.
He believes dogs only pretend to like their owners because they feed them.
He believes women only want men who act like jerks, because it's a sign of strength and, let's face it, strong is sexy.
He believes that the system is designed by the rich to keep the peons in their dutiful places.
He's a writer, of course. A successful novelist. Of course he is. What else would he be?
Chuck Wentzworth doesn't believe in love, he thinks everyone is out to get something for themselves. The myth of romantic love is just a tool they use to get what they really want, whatever that may be. Sometimes what they want is something they don't even understand themselves, but Charles thinks he does. He knows what they want, even when they don't know themselves. Love? Psssssssh. A story they tell themselves.
But he falls, sometimes. He falls in love and he fights it. The most important thing is to hide the pathetic state of weakness before someone sees it, and concludes you're no longer useful to them.
So he won't let his feelings show, only his cynical side.
Unless...your character can change his mind.
He can be very abrasive. He will not pander to keep from popping someone's happy bubble they live in with the needle of cynicism. He is crass. Intellectual, yes, but crass. He'll tell YC to shove off. But maybe YC has what is takes to get through his shields and break into his cynical heart.
