(heh, lame title.. )
Tressa stood in the open lobby of the orphanage. Today was the day she was to be picked up. By who, she wasn't quite sure. All they told her was that she was adopted, and she was going to leave today. She had nothing with her, just a small bag with a couple sets of clothes in it, and the worn teddybear that was held in her arms. The orphanage was on the edge of town, so that any escaped orphans couldn't make much trouble before they were snagged again. Tressa wasn't a troublemaker, however. She stood, watching the door anxiously, while the lady at the desk wrote on papers and waited more patiently than Tressa could.

She stood, watching the door anxiously, while the lady at the desk wrote on papers and waited more patiently than Tressa could.
A Large Khajiit man walked in, wearing a belted tunic and a pair of boots. He smiled warmly as he spotted the young girl he had adopted.
"Hello," he smiled comfortingly as he knelt in front of her, "I'm Dmitri."

Tressa looked at the man that came in, glancing over at the worker who quickly stood. "Ah, welcome Mr. Dmitri! Here she is, all ready to go!" The worker gestured Tressa to come forward, and so she did. She paused once she approached him and looked at him carefully. "Hello. I'm Tressa.." She smiled a little bit. She was certainly nervous.
The feline reached out with a furred hand, "Yes, I know," he certainly had a comforting air about him, "Are you ready to come to your new home? It a few days away but I have a horse."
Tressa took the hand, slowly, and nodded. "Yeah.." The worker let them leave, and Tressa followed him out to the horse. "..you came all the way here to pick me up?" She was rather surprised, honestly. She looked at the horse for a few moments, then at her new..father? Yes, father was apparently the right term.
He smiled softly down at her, "Yes, I did," Dmiti gently lifted Tressa into the mare's saddle then hopped up behind her. There was a warhammer that seemed to be made of bone strapped to the saddle bag.
"Let's go, little one," he gently stroked her head as he grabbed the reins and set the horse off at a slow trot.

Tressa settled herself on the horse, holding the teddy close. She leaned back against him a little as he pet her head, then stayed close as they started off. She wasn't sure what to say. Obviously, she'd never been adopted before, so she didn't know how to treat a parent, or how to get to know them either. "Where are we gonna stay at night if it takes a few days to get home?"
He smiled as Tressa leaned into his broad chest, "We will either stay at inns or I'll make a small camp. Most nights we'll be able to stay at an inn though," he assured her and gently combed his furry fingers through her hair with his free hand.
Tressa closed her eyes as he combed through her hair like that, honestly feeling a bit sleepy. She'd been so excited last night that she hadn't gotten much rest. "...tell me about yourself..dad?" She glanced up at him when she used the last word, making sure it was okay with him.
He laughed, deep and hearty, blushing a bit too even, "Well... Let's see... I'm an adventurer. I've found many treasures and stopped many thieves. You know of the dragon crisis we've just had recently? I've slain many dragons. That war hammer is made out of their bone," he gesture to the large, two handed weapon. "I'm very protective... I will make sure that you never come to harm," he said softly and gave her scalp a tentative kiss.
(I'm writing all this with Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim context I hope that's okay)

(That's fine! I don't know much at all about the series though, just a warning lol)
Tressa listened to him, looking up in surprise. "Really? Wow..." She never expected to be adopted by such a strong warrior! This thought raised a question that she was certainly going to ask him. "...why'd you want me, then?" She couldn't help but be curious. A strong adventurer like him, with a past like that...it just didn't make sense that he'd suddenly settle down! Shouldn't people like him keep fighting?

"Because I want a child. I've grown lonely, and I adopted you because I know you are old enough to take care of yourself if I'm gone but also... Young enough that you can rely on me. You are 12? 13?"
Tressa listened to him, nodding when he spoke of her age. "Uh-huh." She looked up at him. "Are you going to leave a lot, dad?.." She was certainly glad to be out of the orphanage, but she wanted to spend as much time with her new father as possible.
(There is actually an orphanage in the farthest eastern city called Riften. There's a DLC that allows players to adopt a child as well as build their own home.)
"No. I will spend as much time with you as I can, and if I go I'll try and take you with me," he smiled at her then asked, "What is it you would like to do when you get older?"

Tressa smiled as he said he would try to spend as much time as possible with her. When he asked that question, though, she hesitated. "Um...I don't know. I never really thought about it." All she ever hoped for was to be adopted. She never really thought about what she wanted to be when she was older.
He smiled, "Would you be interested in learning magic at all? Healin magic perhaps?" he smiled almost hopefully.
Tressa looked at him in surprise. "I can learn magic??" She always thought magic was inherited. She was just an orphan kid of course, so she really didn't have any education at all. "I'd love to!" She would like that ability, because that meant she'd be able to help!
"Everyone can learn magic. I know magic, though Khajiit aren't exactly the most proficient. You are human, so where are you from? Here in Skyrim? Or are you Inperial? Breton maybe? All you humans look the same to me," he teased.
Tressa listened to him, then looked down at her teddybear. "...I don't know." she said quietly. "I've been at the orphanage ever since I was a baby so I just kinda grew up here." She leaned back against him and closed her eyes.
"Well, we Will have to wait until you're older," he smiled softly, "Though you look kind of Bretish... But also Nordic... Breton's are the most proficient of the human races with magic."
