FAMILIARS DO NOT HAVE TO TAKE THE FORM OF A CAT.
They can be any animal, spiritual being, or entity. Stop limiting your writing and boring me with all these cats.
thank you.

If someone wants their characters, or all their characters familiars to be cats, they are allowed to and aren't 'limiting' their writing. If you are bored by it, or don't prefer it, you need to communicate with partners that you would find it more interesting if they made their familiars other animals and if they don't want to do that, it's your prerogative to stop rping with them just as it's theirs to have their familiars be cats if they want that.

Of course.
I wasn’t being confrontational about it. I have just seen many familiars as cats and I was just saying that “hey, it’s okay to broaden your horizons”. And if not, cool. Go the classic witch route and have your familiar be a feline. Go ahead and give him a Bristish accent too because it’s your character and regardless of my opinion, I don’t have a say in that.
If they are a good writer, I will also still write with them. Stopping a story just because I’ve seen too many cat familiars is just too petty.

The thing is - your post literally does come off as telling people to stop. You quiet literally, tell people to 'stop boring you'.
I'm not trying to be rude, but you should word your post differently if you don't actually mean what you put into words. You know? Espeically if you're RPing with people who have cat familiars, they're going to see this and wonder if they're boring you.

bruh. It’s kay cause one of my characters’ familiar is a cat. That’s not his only form but a cat is one of them. My sense of humor and or satire is like this. Dark and blunt. My writing partners know me and they definitely know better than to take anything I say seriously.
And if any of my new partners see this, welcome. If you are upset by this, please feel free to knock on the fact that majority of my characters are cry babies and drama queens cause that’s my MO.
🤷♀️
I find certain things in excess boring too, for sure, so I get it. I just don't think this is a very productive way to go about this topic and this is in the 'RP Discussion' forum after all. I'm sure plenty of people, myself included, would have been interested in a genuine topic about 'most common and least common familiars' and how fun it would be to show off and talk about familiars, including the topic that cats are the most common and why that might be! No ropes to burn here, I apologize for the trouble and for being kind of abrasive. Enjoy your day.

This wasn’t meant to be productive tbh. Just sharing an opinion that I have said before to my cat familiar writing partners. My intention wasn’t to provoke serious tilt in someone else. But knowing myself, I can see where this can be interpreted incorrectly to people that hasn’t been writing with me long or to complete strangers.
So, let me turn this thread around to something productive.
Being the weird witch that I am, if anyone has a familiar, post them. I love them all feline or otherwise.
Lol
My betta is mine. Pretty sure he wants me dead right now though. However, I think I may be a fox personality-wise.
Mind you, I do this familar thing for fun, I do not actually believe it.

She's still in the rough draft stages of character development, but I have a witch with a giant honey bee!
Hear me out.
Chameleon familiar.
A chamiliar.
Or a fahmeleon.
Perks (things that this funky magical little lizard make you capable of doing):
• Adapt to any environment you're in whether socially or in the more survivalist's terms
• Change your hair color whenever you want, or your eye color. Or the color of anything, really.
• AMAZING eyesight. Chameleons have great vision.

I have Gibbit my earth mage who has a summoned earth stag familiar
And Jaspur my Transmuter who has an altered dog familiar called Symeon
And lastly Joan who doesn't entirely count just yet, but has recently become infused with some magic. Her companion is a seagull named Barnaby who may eventually become more of a familiar than a pet.

Totally character spoilers
What about a runaway familiar who has become a sorcerer in his own? He's a little batty.

That's cool. The stones and the mushrooms and the grass. Very cool.
