A stick snapped in the distance. Griffon nodded, "yes." His hand fell upon his sword's hilt, ready to pull it out. He walked more slowly now. Then another sound was heard. Griffon pulled up slightly on his cutlass, revealing a few inches of his shining blade.
Avery was scared. She loves to rebel but she never thought she would get caught! she let out a squeak. Okay. Seriously calm down. she thought, why are you scared? really, you've dealt with these losers before so just calm yourself. She started to breath a little easier. She flew over to a big oak tree over to the left of the path and tried to push Grif into the forest out of the way but she was so small it wasn't really working. She knew that the guards would be walking and looking up for her. But they wouldn't be looking for a taller tree. She urged the tree to conceal her and grow. It LISTENED! she could see farther in the distance that there were at least 5-15 guards really far behind and 2 quite close. She flew down to Griffon. "okay so the ones we heard are like kindof close, two of them. But there are a lot more following them. What do we do Mr. Adventure?!" she said still kindof nervous.
Griffon's cutlass hissed as he drew it out of its sheath. He turned to face the way they were coming. "I guess we fight then!" As strong as magic was, a fighting man takes alot to calm him down in battle. While his right hand held the sword, his left created a small ball of light. While the ball of light was harmless and he had no idea how to throw it, he could blind an attacker for a bit if he put the orb in his face.
" I don't know how to fight!" She half screamed half whispered. She looked at him like he was crazy and started to hide behind him and his sword. "Tell me what to do. uh I guess we have no other choice right? Gosh I just wanna run! I don't like this!" she was rambling in pure nervousness and was barely understandable. she took a deep breath. "Tell me what to do and I will do it." The way she relied on him and how she looked up to him resembled that of a young sibling looking up to a much cooler, much more knowledgeable older brother.
Griffon took a slow, half-step backwards. The first two guards emerged from the trees in the distance and Griffon brandished his sword. He turned slightly and pointed towards the mountian. "Run," he whispered as the first two guards emerged some distance away. Then the two armored pixies raised their hands and fired of magic in their direction. Small balls of fire and bolts of electricity hurled in their direction. "RUN!" Griffon yelled. He turned and pulled the pixie into the air so she could have her take-off already done. Explosions erupted on the forest floor around the odd duo as Griffon began running towards the mountain.
Autumn didn't even try to comprehend what was going on but she knew she could fly faster than she could run. So with Griffon's kind shove into the air she started to fly as fast as she could. She knew Griffon was a tad behind her so she (while flying) urged the wind to be at his back. All of a sudden an explosion occurred right to the left of her and threw her off her path. She ran into a couple branches before she skidded. Crashing into the ground. Before she could think she was running then flying again trying to reach Griffon. Her instincts had taken over. She got her thoughts back and urged the wind again. But this time to pick up underneath her wings so she could be closer to him and farther from the guards.
Griffon half skidded, half slid to a stop when he realized that his friend wasn't with him. He turned around quickly as he came to a halt. "COME ON!" He waved for her to catch up and ducked as a bold of lighting went over his head. He didn't know if he would be killed or captured, not that he wanted to find out!
Autumn tried to catch up but she was getting so tired. The explosions were getting closer and she didn't know what to do. She finally caught up to Griffon while flying. "What do we do!" she screamed as she dodge a plant that had caught on fire by lightning. "We cant keep running forever! What's your plan?!" Autumn has never been in a serious situation before, her whole life before now has been practical jokes and laughs. She was out of her comfort zone and quiet frightened.
A large tree was just ahead and Griffon spotted it. "Follow me," he said. With that he picked up his speed, the magic falling steps behind him. He ran forward, and when he reached the tree he grabbed Autumn's arm and dove behind it. With any luck the explosions would have covered their move and the guards wouldn't know they were there. He crouched down and put a finger up to his lips, signaling to the pixie. "Shhh."
Autumn was breathing heavy behind the tree. It all happened so fast. She was scared out of her mind not knowing what was going on. She had never seen this type of action being taken by her fellow pixies. She looked at griff with wide eyes looking for reassurance. She didn't wait to find his eyes. She looked away and slumped against the tree to get her breath and to keep from crying. She was trying to hear what was going on but couldn't concentrate on the noises. It was all just buzzing in her head. She got up because sitting probably wasnt the best option. She stood up and scooted so that she was hiding behind griffon and his cutlass. She felt safer there bust still didn't know how she could help him. Besides she got him into this mess.
Griffon waited behind the large tree and waited. Finally the guards passed the tree. This is when he got really quiet so as not to give away their position. When they were far enough away he crept out of his spot and sneaked to the other side. He reached it and beckoned for Autumn to follow. When he looked at the path he was surprised to see how little damadge was done to the actuall landscape. There wasn't actually even an injured tree to be found.
Autumn was very cautious. She followed him but gave him a look as to say "are you sure about this?!" She was afraid to talk out loud because she didn't know if it was safe to do so.
He slinked away from the guards with the pixie girl. "How far until the mountain," he asked in a whisper. He couldn't see it right now but he didn't think it could be all too far from where they were now.
Autumn looked around to figure out where she was. "Um it is only like another 2 hours away we are quite close" She smiled nervously. "do you think they are gone?"
"Good." Griffon poked his hear around and saw nothing. He smiled and nodded to the pixie as he stood in the open. "Shall we continue walking? Without our lives being threatened this time?" He gave a little pause and a smile. "Well mine anyways, you'd just have to guard a less active portal!"
Autumn rolled her eyes and started walking. But she was exhausted and had never run or walked this far in her life! She looked at him and smiled not letting on that she was so tired. "Do I get a story yet?!" She pleaded with the story teller, much like a child would talk to a parent when she was asking for one more bed time story. "Pleeeeaaasssee" she stopped walking, looked up and waited.
Griffon smiled at the pixie and looked at the sky. "Well I guess it is time to stop and eat anyways, it looks a bit past mid day." He dropped his pack onto the ground. "What kind of story would you like?"
Autumn thought for a moment as she plopped herself on the ground. "How about a true one, you know, like one of your adventures or something. Or or or or orrrrrrr you could tell me your favorite story to tell!" She Smiled and looked at griffon excited to be sitting.
Griffon pondered a moment. "I was taken to the under world's city once. I guess that might make an interesting story."
She smiled "okay cool! I'm listening!" She giggled and kept looking at him.
