For this character, I'm up for things from her making her way through a normal school and meeting a human lover, to finding out that there's a school for talented magicians. She's no mary-sue, but please note that she IS a magic wielder, not over the top, but I don't want to change anything about her to fit what someone else wants. I might be interested in simply making another character.
Magic is rare. Some of the players might have it. There may be sages or other magical figures that could be sought out for tutelage.
Modern
Unrest may be part of the setting, but any scenes that happen to involve combat may be summarized.
