I'm in an RP with Celestina, and we just hit a major point in the story. I feel, the story unfolds better if you personally feel the emotion of your character. It makes it feel more genuine, in my opinion. And man... Am I feeling that emotion. I'm angry for my character, and wanting to cry at the same time. But, I really enjoy feeling that way for my character. It truly lets me know I'm in a good RP when I feel emotions that coincide with such beautifully crafted wording from both parties.
Please share your best RP emotional moments. I really enjoy reading these kinds of things. If you are interested, our RP is Essence of Blood in Fantasy, though I'm not asking you to read it if you don't want to.

I may be a Fail Rper, cuz I rarely feel anything in RP except for sadistic joy and lolling at the characters' disgrace.
Which is kinda the same, really.
EDIT: I lie. I have also been known to go 'daww' sometimes.

I tend to sympathise more with my character than feel their emotions, but I do guess that trying to imagine yourself as them and then trying to guess how they would feel in a certain situation is another way of going about it. I am not, after all, a half-elf mage, life-sucking shadow monster or recently enslaved former novice
Probably I would say, Pulchra getting killed. Neccesary for her storyline of course, but it was also a really 'daaaaamn/d'awr ' moment. Especially after about.. I think it was six/seven months of building up to it.

I like playing the jerk characters or the stand-offish ones. AS you know, Dadj and Ilo are jerks But I do get excited when the characters are getting somewhere in the story. Especially if its a character who I have not rounded yet and am doing so through the story they're playing in.
I might feel exhilarated or a bit awwww depending upon what happens. But I certainly don't feel the emotions of my character. I have a large wall between IC and OOC. I think that if you started feeling too much of what your character is feeling such as.. anger, jealousy, love, sadness -- it could make for an awkward situation OOC.
I would say, similar to senny, I do try to sympathize with my characters. Sometimes I have to have a really good think about how they might react as I like to play characters with personalities very different from my own.

OMG I know. Each post has me on edge, I'm like 'omg poor Alezander, poor Zalia!! TT-TT'
I get really emotional in my RPs. A lot. I can understand Dylan's point of not bringing IC to OOC, but this is a different situation. If my character has a relationship with another character, I don't fall in love with that player. But I do feel the love my character has for that person. I smile with my character, cry with my character, laugh with my character and get ticked off with my character. I share all the emotions my poor characters go through.
I have cried before in RPs. Easily. Like the time the one character I was RPing with killed his daughter in a fit of werewolf rage. My character is an elf and tried to heal the little girl but it was too late.
So many tears were shed. TT-TT

Oh, I never bring IC emotions into OOC-ness. Once I go OOC, it's back to normal. I get that way when reading books too. I laugh, I cry, I get angry, but once I set the book down, it's back to normal life.

It never gets awkward for me thankfully. When I roleplay my character and get emotional about it, it's no different than when I'm bawwing over a sad movie or being thrilled about a romantic relationship in a book. Feeling my character's emotions could be compared to an actress getting into her role. She becomes the character in order to play her right, that can include taking on an entirely different personality.
I find it amusing that so far opinions are pretty much black and white on the matter. Either you merely sympathize and understand, or you take on the role of your character and feel what they're feeling.

I've already got a runny nose. I made it worse by crying. xD
I gotta go take a quick shower. I expect a post when I get back!! >3> *on the edge of her seat!!*
I have a lot of characters, and I have a lot of emotion for them. I also have a tendency to kill them off if I need a good cry.
I had one character who had been a heavy drug user, had her trust abused by her grandfather, lost both biological parents. She ended up in the moutains alone for 10+ years and when she came out she was confronted by a recreation of her mother and a reincarnation of her father grown in a tank (yay sci-fi plot lines!)
She erm... lets say destroyed the recreation of her mother while screaming her head off. Her father's reincarnation told her "It's time to go to sleep. It will be better if you sleep." When he finally soothed her, he broke her neck.
I bawled like a baby, my fiance next to me going "WTF?"
Another good example is my one character's wedding. I've been roleplaying with her now husband for over two years and we finally got married (most of my rp marriages last all of three months) I felt such joy at knowing they're finally together. I am really happy for the characters.

I do get into what my characters are feeling, if the rp is really good. Like Sanne said, it's a bit like an actress getting into her role, or getting into a really good movie or book. I don't however, cross my IC and OOC. I can be rping with somewhere where the characters are total worst enemies, and be sniggering at what they are doing, in whispers to the player. If my character is madly in love with another character, Im not gonna be all over the player and gushing feelings to them. (Sorry, Senny, Sanne, I love you guys just not that way :-p) But, if I don't feel some reflection of what the character is feeling while I am writing them, or like Senny, at least sympathize, then I am not into the character, period and I will lose interest in playing them.
