trying to keep busy with either books or video games...
some genres I like are:
Books:
fantasy
sci fi
anything fiction, except horror, basically
some varieties of how-to books
Games I like:
city builder
survival
building in general
zombie survival
specific games and books I'm looking for combine base or city building elements with survival in medieval or post apocalyptic settings. suggest any you can think of below. I have a ps4 and a decent gaming pc.

Rimworld
It's a base building and colony manager game where you crashland on this planet with little supplies. Your ultimate goal is to get off the planet
Ive put about 700 hours into the game so far

Ark: Survival Evolved - A game where you gather resources and tame dinosaurs with said resources. I did make a small dodo and gerboa army at one time.
That is all I can think from the top of my head at the moment.

Books:
+ The Maze Runner series
+ Hunger Games
+ Archlight
+ Splintered: A dark version of Alice in Wonderland
+ The Iron Fey
+ Smoke and Bone
+ Hawksong
+ Dark Elite
+ Eragon: The books are way better than that poor excuse of a movie
Games:
~ Jurassic World: Evolution: You basically build your own dinosaur park.
~ Subnautica: You are stranded on an alien planet that's basically a giant ocean and you have to survive and find a way off the planet
~ Seven Days To Die: It's basically an open-world zombie survival
~ Rust: A survival game
~ The Forest: Your plane crashed on an island home to cannibals and you must survive and find your kidnapped son

-7 Days to Die as said below, it has horror elements though
-DayZ, never tried it but it's survival in a post apocalyptic world and looks good
-For building, the classics: Terraria and Minecraft
I'll try adding some in the next days

Kingdom is a great medieval-styled strategy/ resource builder with gorgeous pixel graphics, which might tick both boxes there for you (it looks to be quite survival in nature).
Civilisation's obviously a recommendation for any city building, as well but you've no doubt come across those.
And whilst old, I'd recommend Heroes of Might & Magic, and Black & White 2.

Books: The Black Company by Glen Cook. Give the first one a read and if you like it, there are nine.. no, ten more!
For a post-apoc sort of game, I suggest Horizon Zero Dawn. The story is amazing, the gameplay is fun. It doesn't have any base-building to it, but it's still really worth it. It's one of the few games where crafting is not frustrating and doesn't need a ton of focus.
