When I tried to change my pic for one of my characters I get a black screen and yes it’s at the correct size

You say you get a black screen. Do you mean that your whole screen/window turns black? Or is just the icon turning black? Or something else?
What type of file are you trying to upload? JPG/JPEG, PNG, GIF...?

What do you need to do to get out of the screen? The site might be outright crashing.
It's sounding more like an issue with the phone to me.
