Greetings fellow RPR members, Winter here.
A lot of times we have these ideas. Sometimes they are big. Sometimes they are small. And sometimes they are...well. I won't size code this one, but they are HUGE. And projects can be any number of things.
Like one project of mine: I want to re-vamp an rp family of mine, so to be able to rp them again. So currently. I'm looking at four characters for the immediate family. The head of said family, his son, and then his two grandkids.
The current issue of mine is trying to get all of those OC's fleshed out so that I can rp them. I've only ever had one family member fully fleshed out before. Another was roughly and partly done. The other two would be new. Basically, they were character's I created years ago, but after an issue with my (ex) gf who was also the rper of my character's wives...I stopped rping the family and not touching them. Well. I miss portraying the family and want to give them a fresh start.
So a question is: Do I work to get them all fleshed out at once and then put them up on RPR, or should I get up who I can and add them to the RPR page when I can finish them? Normally I would wait to put up a big project, once everything is finished and ready to go. However...
As Demi (Demilicious) knows, as does Krispy (Krispythekritter), coming up with character's is a struggle as well sometimes as the bane of my rp existence.
What I've thought is to do one page on a character page, for the backstory for the family. Then the rest of the pages are for the basic information of each individual character to be part of said family. The backstory is a bit easier for me to do than the basic information for the individual characters themselves.
So what do you folks suggest? Also. Have any of you had this issue before?

I pretty much know how you feel, most of my characters are work in progress,
right now I'm working on two families( technically three but that one is a group of friends.)
From logical standpoint I would say work it out one at time unless you feel that you can do all at once but that comes to your own judgement.
Now suggestions I think short stories or drabbles should do a thing for ya. Through practice you can learn more about them.
And also I think it's safe to inspire on people from your surrounding, ya know most of writers do that, however you don't have to if you don't want to, it's just a suggestion.

I can't really say either way, but all of my 23+ characters are a big project. Just... wait for inspiration and eventually it'll come.

I most likely will do it one at a time, and put them up as I go.
I'm not sure about the rest, but I might give it a shot. Lots of reasons go into my trouble of creating, which I will leave out just so to not clutter this up.
But thank you for your inpu, it is appreciated. And good luck with your own projects!
Personally, I find nothing more helpful than diving into a game with them.
For example, the family of The Alabaster Princess was barely more than names when I first listed them, but then I had an RP that included someone at least briefly meeting them all. What's there now has been kept intentionally short, but I have more about them in my head.
Another example: NPCs that I handle who gain any relevance to the story tend to spontaneously develop personality, backstory, and goals/reasons in addition to their appearance. They have to, or their part and their actions won't make any sense. And as I play them, they get continuously more complex. This makes sense with that. That could be due to this other thing. This is probably something they're sensitive about.
So I'd say either start writing up a "story" to meet them (doesn't have to go anywhere specific or have a conclusion), or find one or more chill partners and start up a messy get-to-know. If you think it'd be helpful, reserve free right to retcon.

The only person I have on my list, be it here or Discord, who could help me at this time with that is Krispy. She normally helps give me test runs of OC's of mine, like my Master Violinist I put up recently. But we also have a lot of other things to tend to, so trying to work out when to do things is a bit difficult.
My other thing is I would like to at least have some kind of an idea of a personality, before springing extra characters on someone. I'm not saying they have to be overly fleshed out, I just want to be able to have something to go with rather than be totally blind.

Inspiration usually takes a long hiatus on me, with the way my rl goes. But I mostly do wait on it. Part of how I managed to finally get three OC's up recently.
