The Dancing flame of the Ocean
Time.
Time was an element invented by the humans to have a sense of structure for the days that seemed to wander by.
This was a period, long before the concept of time initially existed. It was just the Gods who wandered the universe, this was the God of the sun, Helios, and the other, the goddess of the moon, Luna. They were in search of a feeling, such as fulfillment to keep them occupied. Afterall, immortals could never pass on to an afterlife, especially if such a thing did not exist. At some point, the gods conversed with eachother and agreed on an idea that pleased them both equally. With both of their equally mesmerizing god-like power, they created a dimensional land that existed within the universe they did. This was not yet earth, this was called Panagea. Half of this dimensional land mass was suitable for fiery, blazing heat that scorched everything even beyond reach, and the other half was suitable for aquatic life and mermaids. These two were never to amalgamate with eachother or chaos would be brought forth. Although they were connected, they never crossed. In the making of this, a lovely young maiden, Agneyastra, who controlled the fiery half of the mass was brought into existance. For the other half, where the mermaids and marine life elegantly swam, a man was brought forth, his name was Como. He was the ruler of this wavy, blue, infinite oceon. The land masses co-existed without knowledge of eachother. Even though how close they were in proximity, it always seemed to pass over anyone or anything that went near the border that separated these halves. Until a single moment in history changed this. They both wandered far beyond the lengths of the boundaries and found themselves in a black catacomb of nothingness. This was most peculiar because neither of them had seen anything like it before. As the two were brought closer together, they could see eachother. Agneyastra glowed brightly with her infinitely burning body, and Como could be seen by the reflection of which the light Agneyastra emitted onto him. They had never met someone like the other before. They grew fond of eachother, closer and closer by the days. A feeling beyond both of their comprehensions began to emerge in the deepness of their souls. To them it felt so right, but underneath, it felt just as wrong. They continued to meet up, everything seemed to perfect and happy. This was slowly shattered by the realization that their worlds were slowly rotting to the ground, quite literally. Their unwavering love towards the opposite element caused themselves to slowly corrode with their land. Neither of them wanted this, but they didn't want to lose the place they always knew. One night, Agneyastra called out to her father in hope of getting help, even though she unintentionally committed a sin. Helios saw this, just as Luna did, and Helios became outraged by the foolish actions of the guardians of the masses. He lashed out, destroying all nearly all that existed of the masses, this left behind the bodies of Agneyastras corpse and Comos aswell. Pangegea was left to a black charred crisp. But the souls of Agneyastra and Como were still present there, so their love continued. This time th opposite reaction occurred. Water emerged from the black rock of the land. Volcanoes grew more land, and slowly the begining of life recreated itself. Oceans grew vast and wide with many varieties of fish and other marine life. The land grew green still-life plants which were used for energy by herbivores then eaten by carnivores. This process continued and flourished throughout the newly made land. Although Agneyastra and Como no longer existed, they left behind one more gift to the previously known Pangaea, and that was a single human, their child, who brought the earth to what it is a million years into the future.

Magic is rare, but not unheard of. Mundane characters may or may not believe in it. Magical characters may form small and exclusive pockets for study, protection, etc.
