howdy, folks! a sort of niche question this time. where, in the name of aLL THAT IS HOLY, should I look to find RPs that are anthro-based but NOT within Furcadia? I have zero interest in it due to being a novella writer and the costs associated with trying to set up a character there; the sort of instant chat RP style holds no appeal to me, anxiety and all of that.
unfortunately, that means that I've been literally unable to find any anthro RPers here that are not based in Furcadia, TGT, etc. every time I find an anthro character here that holds appeal to me, they're exclusive to those locations! it might just be that this site is a bad location to look for that sort of niche, but I figured I'd ask before I tried to branch out into the craziness of having multiple profiles on multiple RP sites.
so, TL;DR: where are good locations for anthro-based RPs that are NOT Furcadia-related?
edit: keep in mind that this thread is for (preferably) alternatives to Furcadia! I enjoy hearing everyone's opinions on the matter, but I would like to keep the original intentions involved.

I should've reply this privately, Red, but I've already voiced my strong opinions on the subject. However, I'm 'gonna drop this here just for the people that eventually come to this thread as well.
I don't know if a Furcadia/The Cosmos/TGT emblem on their profiles immediately mends these profiles are exclusive to the respective games but I'd say to take a look at them and scout for a Do's and Dont's chart. It usually says whether that person will RP outside of these games or not. If not, I would resort myself to just ask out if they want to do something outside of it.
It's a bummer that there's so many good characters in the Gallery that we can only stare and dream (pun not intended) what writing with their players would feel like. In fact, its quite disheartening. There are good writers in there that you know you won't write with because they are related to a game that is not really related to this forum at all, apart from Kim being a Furcadian.
And, if the people I've been talking about do come here and take a look, I'd ask you folk to be a bit more lenient to the poor masses like ours that can only stare at those beautifully designed profiles, 'yo.

Unfortunately a lot of us Furcadians use RPR as a place to display our character info for other Furcadians. I've tried writing with people on site and it's an entirely different experience compared to how we rp in game, and I think that affects its appeal.
That being said, I know a lot of people that play on both! It never hurts to ask, and even if they aren't accustomed to rping on RPR, that doesn't mean they won't be willing to give it a try!

a big problem that I've run into with these profiles associated with Furcadia is that they are, unfortunately, exclusive! don't get me wrong, this isn't just naysay from me; without failure, each time I have reached out to a player that happened to be associated with these groups, I was told to either join the dream(s) and stick to the lore, or to find another player. it's led to the point where I use the benefit of the doubt that my experience will be the same, simply because trying to sort through countless profiles to find the needle in the haystack is very difficult.
the whole different experience thing is understandable, though. I've done both DM/forum RPs and live RPs (I did a LOT of RPing on WoW back in the day) and I've found that while live RPs do have a respectable appeal to them, the pressure to reply swiftly and keep up with a constantly moving log is too much for me, lol. and while I'm not sure if Furcadia is the same way, having no way to back up exchanged messages was a HUGE no-go for me; I always have to back-reference to past posts.
it's not to say that I'm against Furcadia/etc, but I really wish that players would branch out a little. I don't see the point in utilizing RPR for their characters if they abhorrently refuse anyone from here. :< we're nice people, too!
While I personally don't mind branching out a little, I've got characters in certain dreams who meet a lot of people and do stories with them. It would be strange to do a constant 1x1 RP with someone that might effect my friends' OCs and make it difficult for them to do anything about it, since they're on a different platform.
RPR should be open to them, too, given its resources and people shouldn't be expected to RP on here if it just doesn't fit.
I'm sure there are plenty of people who will RP off-furc, though, and I hope you do find them!

that's understandable, trust me! however, I would like to raise the question of why would exclusive individuals list their characters as available for RP on here, if they have no desire to do such? it's not meant as an offense or anything, I swear - I'm just honestly curious as to why they would select that option. do these groups not offer LFRP in their own locations?

They might see it as 'looking for RP' to people just from furcadia checking out their character. There are instances where characters are retired, and there's an option for that or perhaps a furcadia character is only gathering up art on RPR and is generally just an OOC alt, as I've seen quite a few of those hanging around.

ah, right, I can see that. while it seems like one of those things that there's not much that can be done about it, I do think both sides can agree that the LFRP option can be...frustrating sometimes, LOL. I utilize it with the mindset that it means their players are willing to RP on-site, and I know that their players probably get annoyed with that assumption - I do believe it'd be nice if there was an option to filter out certain tags like that, or to filter it so that only characters with those tags would be shown. would save all of us a bit of frustration, heh. :V
Yeah, definately! There's only a couple dreams that I know of that have a beacon built in to announce someone's looking for RP. Otherwise, people glance around sites or just ask the person directly. Maybe someday it'll be an option on the site!
I second the notion that it never hurts to ask! There are plenty of players that I’m sure wouldn’t mind doing a one-off outside of their characters’ continuities or find some way to wiggle things into their respective canons! The worst anyone can say is no, really.
“Looking for RP” could encompass anything depending on who’s setting it up after all - whether it’s as simple as “I want to list this on my main page” or “I’m looking on RPR” or “I’m looking on Furcadia” Or “all of it, lay it on me!” The RP charts help - and I’m always personally happy when people list similar things on their main author page, too!

oh yeah, the RP charts a biggie for me. it would save ALL of us a whole lot of trouble if FC exclusive players would include that in the charts, hah. I personally include on my author's page that I don't do anything off of RPR - otherwise people get left wondering if they should message you or not, and often times that means that potential players are warded off on the uncertainties of 'what if!'
those who include "RPR messages welcome!" or "not RPR messages not welcome!" get a big kudos from me. if you're reading this, those people, I send you my utmost love and appreciation.
While not exactly ideal (for a lot of reasons) I've run into quite a few anthro rpers on F-list. The thing that makes F-list less than ideal is that it's an 18+ site geared towards - well, adult content - and as a result it's exceptionally difficult to find story driven rp, nonsexual rp, and group rp. Oh and sorry to say but you'll run into Furc exclusive players on there too.
As much as I enjoyed Furc back when I played, it appears to be pretty much dead now. I visited TGT out of curiosity and each time I visited, it was lifeless. I don't get it. It's suppose to be one of the most popular dreams but I never saw anyone RP there and the vast majority of people were afk. If so many people are RPing exclusively on Furc, where the heck are they doing it? I don't understand.

Discord!
You can find ALL manner of friendly open RP groups all across Discord's directory. Character sheets are usually saved in one mass channel, but of course you can include links to your character's RPR.
I only used mine to join the group. My anthro is technically not entirely for furcadia. I may have a character that is here in there, but I prefer a different character.
If you were still looking for an anthro rper.

upping again because I tried Furcadia again today and was thoroughly disappointed. a sad, dead place where nothing was going on in the middle of the day on a weekend. I even checked out the "big" dreams and was greeted with silence and like six or seven people. this can't be the only available anthro RP hub!
Yeah, I did look into Furcadia once and it does seem to be a Dying Community. I never play Furcadia, although I did look into it at some point...
The Furcadia Community seems to be quite inactive, and is likely in its Death Throes at this point.... From what I've heard, the Forums or something ended up getting Removed for some reason, witch would likely be the Beginning of the End...
That's not to say that it's a Bad Community or anything, and I'm sure that it's a great place!
There are a few Anthro Roleplayers on RPR (I know several) but they are quite hard to find... I have 4 Furry Characters, and I roleplay on here quite a lot!
I'm open for Anthro Roleplays if any of you guys want one, they're hard to find on here.
