"Clean up crew," Josh repeated, sounding slightly stunned.
"So what are you guys doing here?" Randall asked, finally and grudgingly accepting the fact that Austin was driving the Tank, "Besides cleaning up. Or is that all you're here to do? I thought Leon and the others handled that."

Austin looked in the mirror again. "Leon and them? Ah, so you're with the group in D.C. Cozy little group. Like them a lot. Visited a few times. Wait- You're the twins. Quite the celebrities over there, eh? I'm frankly surprised they're sending out kids your age for supplies. Shows how terrible the militia over there is." Austin smoothly non-answered the question.

Randall bristled angrily, but Josh quickly stomped his foot to keep him quiet.
"How come we never heard about you guys before?" Josh inquired, confused.
"Dang that Leon..." Randall muttered, frowning out the window.
Josh suddenly realized something, something so important he was surprised he hadn't noticed it sooner. "Where are we going? This doesn't look like the way to D.C...."
Randall stiffened next to him, the breath catching in his throat. Good God, not again-
"I mean, unless we're taking a back route or something... But none of this looks familiar," Josh commented slowly, glancing over at Randall to make sure he didn't freak out.

"The fact that you've never heard about us before tells me we've been doing our job right. The end of the world has come and gone at least thrice now, this being the fourth time. We've almost been publicized a few times."

Once Josh pointed out that they weren't headed for DC...

"Oh my gosh... You figured me out! Oh, no! I must be kidnapping you after giving you a high powered plasma weapon and saving your lives! Gosh darn it, you've foiled my plans! I surrender! No, really. I'm not taking you to DC. That place is good and well, but I'm taking you someplace safer."

Randall was still extremely tense; inwardly he was spazzing out and screaming loudly, but he was forcing himself to keep calm on the outside.
Josh noticed this and raised an eyebrow. "He has a point."
Randall said nothing, instead drawing his knees up to his chest in a defensive position.

Austin looked at Randall, puzzled. "Aw, I don't mean to frighten you guys. If it's any consolation, I've got Operatives stationed at the base to help out. Hey, what kind of music do you guys like?"

"Anything and everything," Josh replied in answer to his question. "And it's nothing personal. Randall is always this jittery around people he doesn't know very well."
Randall nodded slightly, not really listening to the conversation.

Austin flipped on the radio and then remembered all the stations were offline. So he shut it off.

"Either of you guys have an iPod? And I don't blame him. If some weird guy wearing armor straight out of a sci-if novel came and killed a bunch of zombies, gave me a cool gun, and took me to a top secret government facility in a sweet vintage car I'd probably be scared to death too."

"I have one, but it's at home," Josh replied awkwardly.
"It's not necessarily that... I just haven't had good experiences with strangers before. They either end up dying or trying to kill me and I don't like either scenario," Randall explained. "I also hate the fact that someone else is driving the Tank for a change."
Josh suppressed a laugh, knowing how much that was bugging him.

Austin chuckled. "Well, you can count on me to not kill you and reliably stay alive. I've kinda been trained in those two areas: No killing children and no dying unnecessarily." He looked at his watch. "Well, would you look at the time? We're here."

They were in the middle of nowhere and were clearly not about to stop the car. Then the unthinkable happened: They suddenly dipped into the ground. Like, there was a decline in the middle of nowhere. The car was starting to go underground.

Doing his best Samuel Jackson voice: "Hold on to your butts." And after a minute of driving, the lights came on. They were in a tunnel.

Josh's eyebrows were raised in surprise. "Hope you're not claustrophobic."
"Hope I'm not too," Randall murmured, looking around in begrudging amazement.
"This is so weird- I feel like I'm in a sci-fi novel or something."
Randall decided not to point out to Josh that they technically were in a sci-fi novel for that might blow his mind a little too much.

The deeper down they got, the... Bluer the lights got. There was a blue ambience about the whole thing. "Hope I'm not, either."

After a while of driving, they came to a hangar. It was empty, save for the massive amounts of experimental vehicles: They looked straight out of a video game. High tech one man fighters the size of minivans, giant hummer-like vehicles loaded to the brim with weapons, etc.

Austin pulled to a stop right next to his own Dodge Longhorn. It was painted brown with gold accents. He stopped the car, and stepped out.

"I won't bother to tell you to not touch anything, because that's no fun. My rule is better: You can do whatever you want as long as nothing explodes. Deal?"

Josh's eyebrows furrowed. "I'm a bit of a pyro so that'll be difficult, but I'll try my best... Where's Randall?"
Randall had scrambled over the center console and was now sitting in the driver's seat, his face in the steering wheel, seeming determined to rub all traces of Austin's DNA off the smooth insides of the Tank.
Josh resisted the urge to facepalm.

Austin laughed at Randall's OCD. "Hey, buddy. It's cool, okay? Just... Calm down."

He looked at Josh. "Don't worry, the security here's tighter than Fort Knox used to be. But you should be able to play on the cars and stuff. Oh, hey, we have laser tag here, with real lasers! Come on, follow me, I'll get you suited up. We're gonna be here a while before anyone else gets here."

"Okay, cool- c'mon, dummy," Josh said, hauling the reluctant Randall out of the Charger.
"But- but- she's not parked right- door dings-"
"Nobody's gonna ding the Tank. Now c'mon." He dragged Randall along after Austin.

Austin stopped as Randall climbed out of the car. "What happened to my plasma rifle?" He looked accusingly at the boy. Of course, he wasn't mad. Not really. But he enjoyed playing tricks like that on the obviously overtly suspicious kid.

"Oh- hold on," he said, remembering that he was supposed to bring the thing along. He struggled free of Josh and ran back to the Tank. A minute or two later he reappeared with the rifle slung across his back. "I got it."

Austin smirked. "Don't worry, kid. I have teleportation tech and things like that. I'm just messing with you. But you'll probably want it for laser tag."


After a little bit of walking, Austin remembered they didn't need to walk so far.

"Hey wait a minute. Yeah that's right... Let me see... You guys are probably..." Austin began mumbling to himself.

After a few seconds, custom-fitted armor like Austin's materialized around the twins. Each helmet had an in-visor display which showed them different analyzations of various things. (Think: Iron Man's in-helmet display.) Austin's armor materialized instantly and he only took a few seconds to say-

"We have any weapon you could want here- Feel free to shoot anything, and it you want a weapon just say its name!"

With that he dashed off, a plasma rifle materializing in his hands.

Should the twins shoot at anything, they'd find that it was protected by a force field. Good in case they actually needed the vehicles/devices/whatevers later.

"WHOA," Randall yelled, taking a step back. He wasn't exactly used to being fully suited up like this.
Josh, however, was laughing like a maniac. "This is AWESOME!"
Funny how alike and yet unlike they were to each other.

"Give it a sec, you should feel the sting of defeat in a few seconds." Austin's voice echoed in their helmets- They were linked via comm microphones. Cool indeed.

"Oh, yeah, SET's got us covered, we can manufacture armor within seconds. We need it with the number of recruits we get. Oh, I'd take cover if I were you. The tank oer there might be a good place to hide."

He wasn't referring to the vintage car, however. Instead, he was referring to an actual, massive tank. It was black, with four sets of small treads. Like four wheels on a car. There were multiple places to allow for gunmen to fire from, and there were also turrets, and things of that nature.

"You can use it too if you want. We take our laser tag very seriously here. I'm still not sure how it works, but everything here gets completely obliterated and at the end of a match it is magically not. Okay, I'm gonna shoot you guys in a few seconds."
