Scratch the force field idea, that's cliche.
(Lol)
"Wait- shoot us- what?"
Randall had caught on quickly. "Combat situation- c'mon, move."
The twins scuttled to relative safety behind the tank, as the wise Austin had suggested. Randall was going to mess around with the rifle for now; it was the closest thing he would probably find that was like his assault rifle in D.C., and he wasn't too bad of a shot with it.
Josh was materializing a couple of different weapons, checking them all out to see which one he liked best. He stopped when he came to a flamethrower.
"Hehehe..."
"Oh, dear God," Randall sighed. "Josh, I don't think a flamethrower will help us right now. Think long range."
"Aw."
"Is there a sniper rifle or something you can use?"
"Lemme see..." Josh continued to scroll through the 'inventory' to find something like a sniper rifle.

"Ah, the flamethrower. That one was helpful when we had to- Aw, crap. Sorry, that's still classified. The Longshot rifle is personally my favorite ranged weapon. It can-"
With that Randall might see a plasma bolt go whizzing past the tank.
"Do that. Here, though." A smaller rifle with a miniature scope on it materialized in Josh's hands. It was obvious he was helping them out now. "That's a mid-ranged marksman rifle. That should be good if you're a good shot with a bow."

"Hmm." Josh shifted the rifle to his shoulder, peering through the scope.
Randall took note of what direction the bolt came from. He cautiously peeked over the top of the tank and dropped down again. He snapped his fingers to get Josh's attention and jerked his head in Austin's direction. Josh nodded slowly, thinking hard.

Austin had devised a plan of his own. He fired again to keep the twins behind cover, and silently approached- Shooting at the tank on occasion.
Just then, a voice came over the comm.
"Rose! Are you playing laser tag without us? Who the heck are you playing wi-"
"Don't worry, Jackson. It's those twins from DC. They were surrounded by Cyborg-5s when I found em, decided to bring em back to base."
"Well, we could use some backup. Load em onto a Big Cat and come out here, we're surrounded. Sending you some coordinates now."
Austin chuckled. "You boys know how to operate a Gauss Cannon?"

"A what?" Randall replied, looking up from the urgent hand signals Josh was giving him.
"Sounds explosive," Josh said, grinning maniacally under his helmet.

Austin jumped into a truck twice the size of the tank. It was basically a hard metal frame around your basic vehicle requirements- Engine, etc. It was powered by a Battery Crystal, something I won't explain right now, and on the back there was a giant laser gun. He pulled up next to the boys.
"Randall, this is a Gauss Cannon. I want you on it, you look like you're a good shot. Josh, you're sitting shotgun- You and I are gonna smash some heads together."
Once they climbed on, he put the pedal to the metal and hightailed it out of the hangar back above ground, and began to drive out towards his companions.

"Cool," was all Randall really said as he experimented with the cannon.
Josh laughed insanely. "I like bashing heads. This should be interesting."

After a while of driving, the trio would come across a group of SET operatives shooting out zombies. Austin stopped the truck and jumped out. "Josh, on me. Randall, let that bad boy rip."
Upon firing, Randall would notice an extremely powerful beam with a massive recoil propelling itself out of the barrel of the cannon and into his intended target, nearly incinerating the thing in the process.
Austin and Josh would come up next to a few other soldiers. "Glad we got it easy this time, huh? Zombies don't puncture armor." Austin laughed at his teammate's remark.
"Yeah, I sure am. Josh, meet Kenzie. Kenzie, meet Josh. Josh, this girl is going to save your life at one point or another, and you had better be prepared for it. For now, though, just focus on headshots and lots of melee. Don't worry, it's impossible to get bit in this stuff. Oh, that flamethrower might be fun right about now."

"Oh, wow..." Randall had to admit, that cannon was pretty cool. He was careful to aim and shoot at zombies, not at people; he wasn't entirely sure what would happen if they got hit by a super powerful cannon beam. He glanced over his shoulder every now and then just to keep an eye on Josh- natural instinct.
"YES!" Josh cackled with glee, materializing the flamethrower. "This is going to be fun."

Kenzie looked at Austin, then at Josh, and then back at Austin again.
"You gave them armor?"
"What was I supposed to do, leave them alone in the hangar? Of course I gave them armor." Austin took out a few zombies. By this time, a small group of the things were shuffling along, allowing ample chance for Josh and Randall to go trigger-happy. "Besides- They needed to let loose a little. When I found em they were tense. You could probably taser them and their muscles wouldn't change." He chuckled. "This is fun. Shooting at slow-moving targets? The apocalypse hasn't been this fun since-"
Kenzie cut him off. "Classified info, Rose. These are civvies, remember?"
"Oh, gosh darn it. You're right."

Randall was letting the cannon rip. However fast he could pull the trigger was however fast the zombies exploded.
"What? Am I doing something I'm not supposed to be doing?" Josh asked guiltily as he unleashed the flamethrower. "WHOA- HEHEHEHEHE AWESOME! BURN, FOUL DEMONS, BURN, BUUUURRRRN!!"

Austin looked at Josh and Randall and laughed. "Of course not. Anything that happens with you guys would be pinned on me. So don't screw things up."
Then they totally tore apart the small herd and by this time all the operatives in the area were laughing
"Nice friends you brought along, Tech."
"Really. Where'd you find these two anyway?"
~~~~
After they had cleaned up, Austin loaded Josh back into the Big Cat. The other crew (Kenzie and her two partners) had loaded up into another Big Cat loaded with a machine gun instead of a Gauss Cannon.
"See you back at the base, guys." And with that Austin tore off.
Once they had driven a little ways, Austin looked back at Randall. "So now you guys know a little bit of how or job goes."
Our*
"Interesting... Job," Randall said, still dumbstruck at how amazing the cannon was.
Josh was still laughing about the zombies he had set fire to. "Did you see that... That was friggin epic..."
"Yes, I saw. As soon as I saw flames I knew exactly where you were. The fact that you were laughing hysterically into the headpiece just confirmed it."
Josh grinned and shoved Randall in the shoulder playfully. He had obviously been enjoying himself, maybe a little too much.
After arriving at the hangar, the Austin would shut down the Big Cat and jump out.
"Well, you guys, I think I should show you where you're staying." As he said this, his and their armor dematerialized, leaving their normal clothes in place. "This way, follow me." He began walking off towards a door in the hangar wall.
Josh followed along behind Austin, looking like he would've been skipping if he hadn't had a limp. He was still coming off his pyro/adrenaline high, giddy with the fact for once in his life he had been able to use an actual flamethrower. It was a dream come true.
Randall followed a little more slowly. Along the way he went to his belt to reload his pistol out of pure habit; then he came to the realization that it was gone, and he didn't have any ammo anyways. He shook his head; this was going to take some getting used to.
Through the door, they'd find a hallway lined with more doors, each one opening into a room with bunk beds. Austin walked down the hall quickly, made a right turn down another hall, and left into a room.
"Here we are." He said with a smile, holding his hand out for Josh and Randall to head inside.
The room was cozy- At the back there was a bunk bed, with a trundle to pull out underneath. There were a lot of cool gadgets in the room, a desk with hologram computers, and other things of that nature.
"It's getting late, I'd say get some rest. There's a bathroom in that door next to the bed, with showers and things like that, and in the morning we're heading to DC in the morning if you want to come."
"Cool, thanks," Josh said, watching as Randall scrambled up the top bunk and faceplanted on the bed. "Tired much?"
"Exhausted," came the muffled reply.
"And who says you get top bunk?"
"You can't get up here with that leg, so it's mine."
"Oh c'mon, it's not like I'm a decrepit old man or something," Josh snorted, sitting down on the bottom bunk and taking off his shoes.
11:27 AM, Next Day:
The three drove down the road in the twins' Charger. Austin and Randall sat up front, Josh sat in back.
"Y'know, guys, I'm glad I found you. You're pretty cool kids. Kinda like me, I think." He laughed. "So do you guys normally do the supply runs, or do they send out others too?"
