Josh grinned, looking out the window.
"They send out others too, but we're raiders for the most part. Sometimes we take shifts on the wall, and sometimes Josh goes to help Sanderson out with the medical stuff. He's pretty good at things like that," Randall replied.
"I like Sanderson."
"Who doesn't?"

Austin nodded.
"Okay, that's cool. ... Is she cute?" He chuckled to himself again. (Have you caught on by now that I don't have any more synonyms for laughter?)
"But seriously, they give you guys protective gear and stuff, right? And a way to keep contact with home base?"

"She's way older than us and she's married," Josh said, trying not to laugh.
"We don't have any protective gear, really," Randall mumbled, thinking. "I mean, they have Kevlar vests, but they're all worn out. We have guns and knives and stuff to protect ourselves out there and we always go out in twos or threes to watch each other's backs. That's our protection. And we don't have contact with D.C. itself, but we have walkie talkies so in case we're separated we can contact each other and meet up again."

"I.. I see." Austin laughed at himself.
"So they send two fifteen year olds, you are fifteen, right, out into the zombie apocalypse with no way to contact them should something bad happen on either end?"
They drove past a walker on the side of the road, which quickly disappeared into the horizon.

"Right. Unlike some people we know, we don't have advanced technology enough to do that," Randall explained with a pointed glance at Austin.
Austin rolled his eyes.
"There's no possible way to, I don't know, stay in touch by having a walkie at their end as well? Ah, well it doesn't matter now."
The roads might start to become familiar: They were getting closer to the home base in DC. They passed by the forest where Josh got caught in the bear trap, at this point.

Josh remembered that forest quite well- how could he forget?
Randall's memory wasn't quite as good (he wasn't the one who got stuck in the trap, after all), so he stayed pretty quiet. He noticed the look on his brother's face but decided not to say anything.

After a little while more of driving, the wall of the base would come into view. Give it a few seconds, aannd...
BAM! The car was suddenly tossed off the road, and rolled over multiple times. Austin was unconscious for a grand total of three seconds before he woke up, groaned, and looked around.
"Josh, Randall, are you okay?!"

"Josh, Randall, are you okay?!"
"HOLY CRAP!" Josh yelled, scared out of his wits. He had been tossed around like a rag doll in the backseat when the car had rolled, and he found it odd that he was now lying on the roof. The world was spinning, but that would be remedied soon enough.
Randall, on the other hand, was silent.
Randall, on the other hand, was silent.
Austin looked around and checked to make sure they were both okay. Relieved once he saw that they seemed to be fine, he looked at the door and tried to open it. He stopped, of course, when he saw that there were walkers outside.
"Crap. Guys, we're trapped in here." He tried to materialize his armor, but for some reason the nearest stockpile had been locked off.
"Randall, you still have that rifle I gave you?"

"Hmmmrrrph," Randall groaned, not exactly sure if he was awake or not.
"I wonder if I can get to the trunk from here," Josh wondered aloud, squirming around so he could reach the trunk. "And here, the rifle's under my seat- hold on a sec-"

Walkers began to notice the car, shuffling and groaning as they moved towards it.
"You guys had better be right about this being a tank... Give me a second, I might be able to contact the base. They do have walkies over there, right?"

"Yeah- how close are we to D.C.? If we set the alarm off they could notice us and come help," Josh said, backing away from the windows. "Here, have a rifle. My machete's in the trunk, along with Randall's AK-47." He pulled the pulse rifle out from under the seat and tossed it over to Austin, almost smacking Randall in the head with it. "Oops- sorry."
Randall gasped roughly in recognition before passing out again. He had smacked his head pretty hard on the window and dashboard when the Tank had rolled, so he couldn't exactly help it.
His head was accident prone. What can I say?

(They're a few seconds' drive from the wall of the base.)
"Give it to me." Austin said, grabbing it eagerly before turning around to try and open the door.
Blocked from the outside. Austin groaned.
"Sorry, Randall," Austin whispered before kicking out the front windshield. He jumped forward into a roll, sitting up in a kneel and shooting out two walkers.
"Try and contact your base! Take this!" He took off his watch and tossed it at Josh, and it lit up. It would appear to be pretty advanced, but once he picked it up it would make sense.
Magic? Maybe. Austin took out a few more walkers before running out of ammo.
"Dammit! The clips in these are so tiny I forgot we rematerialize ammo. Josh! Toss me that AK!" In the meantime, Austin pulled a pistol from a holster on his side and shot out a few more zombies.

Josh scrambled across to the side that wasn't blocked, popping out of the Tank like a cork. He scrabbled away as a zombie lurched at him and he ran across as quickly as he could to the trunk of the car. He wrenched it open and the zombie received a lovely machete blade to the face.
"AUSTIN! CATCH!" he yelled, tossing the AK to him and whirling to cleave another zombie head. "Now how the heck do I work this thing?!"

Austin grabbed the gun out of midair, pulling back the action and opening fire.
"Look, it's very simple! You press the big button that says 'distress!'"
At this point, a big button would appear on a hologram extending from the watch.
Austin was beginning to rethink why he handed Josh the watch when a bunch of zombies attacked at once, and he had to focus on headshots. Oh, yeah. That's why.
"Once you've done that, be sure to- Mmf- Be sure to get in the car with Randall and hit the shield button!
That button appeared as well.
Like I said: Magic.

"Well- what about you?" Josh asked, slightly concerned as he whacked another zombie's face off. "I can help hold them off till the backup arrives. I'm not completely useless-"
Another zombie received a lobotomy as Josh tried to prove his point.

"Listen, kid. I'm not doubting your ability to kill the things, but I'm not about to take responsibility for you becoming one of those things, and I can only watch so many things at once. Get in the car, your brother needs the help. He'd probably agree with me on this."
He popped off a few more shots. "Let me know if the watch starts beeping."

Josh paused a moment, then cussed angrily.
"Fine! But I swear, Austin, if you die, I'm gonna kill you." With that he slipped himself back into the Tank with his machete and hit the distress button, waiting for something to happen.
If anything was supposed to happen. He wasn't entirely sure what the thing was going to do.
Hopefully it wouldn't explode and kill them all, because he would never hear the end of it from Randall.

Josh soon realized the watch thingy didn't have to do anything extraordinary. Help had arrived, and it was in the form of Leon Daggett.
Leon was dressed in his traditional Secret Service uniform, as always, his dark shades covering what Josh knew were brilliant green eyes. He had his own assault rifle in his hands and he was mowing down the zombies left and right. Doc Sanderson had followed him, her own handgun in her hands to cover Leon's back. If you squinted enough, you could also see Anthony Goodeall perched up on the wall watching them through a sniper rifle to cover them both.
Leon had gotten close enough to see the situation; the issue was that he interpreted it wrong.
"Sanderson, cover me- WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?! DROP THE AK!" Leon snarled at Austin, leveling his own weapon at Austin's head.
"Oh dear," Josh said to himself, poking his head out of the windshield. "LEON! LEON, DON'T- GAH!" He ducked back in instinctively as another zombie came lurching around the Tank.
