I saw this on Toy House and oh my gosh, it's a fantastic idea.
Basically, the character who posted before you is now out to get one of your characters - any character of your choice, really. On a scale of 1-10, how screwed is your character? Feel free to post an IC reaction to your opponent!

Since I don't have a character up yet, I'll just throw myself out there! I'm 4'9", hovering around 85-95 lbs, and I have a lot of past experience with ballet and gymnastics. I'd say I'm probably stronger than I look and I could run for miles if I had to, but... I don't have much in the way of combat. If I did try any martial arts moves, I'd probably screw up and immediately give up the fight out of embarrassment.

Oh, but I do have scissors!
Vee (played by Alien_Princess)

((Hard to believe no one posted on this yet, looks like fun to me))

5

Really this could waver depending on your first move. Size wise Vee and Bunny are roughly proportionate to each other, the problem lies in perception. Without running across a lot of predators, Vee usually is simply ready to make a friend. If you use those scissors quick you can probably get them. If Vee realizes they are in danger, however, they have a few notable defenses they use almost exclusively to run away. A small barb on the wrists that can cause temporary paralysis as well as a burst cloud that can disorient an assailant, easy quick and surprising things a plant can pull off to surprise and stun you so they can run like mad!
Gentle-Heart (played by Riik)

You know what, I don't really post in forum games straight after people on my friends list all that often, mostly on purpose because it's better to do these things with new people. But... because of my ongoing RP with VE and Vee, I think it'd be fun to drive home this point...

10.

No combat experience. Weak musculature. Tendency to react to danger by curling up into a ball and hoping it'd go away... if Vee wanted to, they could probably take Gentle-Heart out with no effort at all. I mean all you'd really need to do was tug on one of Gentle-Heart's EMR receptors, and it'd come off... pull off all of them, and they'd starve before they grow back. Gentle-Heart's only real form of defence is running away from things, and they're not exactly that fast either. Give them a laser gun....? I don't know, I mean they might get lucky and hit, but they'd be no more accurate than if you gave said gun to a child with no experience at aiming things (they'd pick it up quickly though so the same might not be said if you first taught Gentle-Heart how to use said weapon). They'd be surprisingly good with a thrown object like throwing knives or stones, but it's unlikely they'd be able to throw anything that can do much harm with much force.

I don't think I could write an IC description up for this though... it'd probably be too brutal.

“Ah! Uh...wait, are you trying to kill me, or...you want a hug or something?”

Gentle-Heart strikes me as one of the few characters whose reign of terror would last exactly however long it’d take Lisa to get over the initial shock of being attacked. The only reason I give them a healthy 2 is that there’s this off-chance they turn out to be clever and/or really, really lucky.

Most of Lisa’s weaknesses come from emotional instability. She suffers from a plethora of mental issues that anyone with half a brain and appropriately loose morals could take advantage of.

On the other hand, she has an extensive knowledge of potion-crafting, especially when it comes to brewing lethal poisons and debilitating splash potions she normally uses defensively. Additionally, Lisa is skilled in knife-wielding and is also fit enough to hold her own against your average person in hand-to-hand combat.

Then she has her shapeshifting and basically everything else that comes with being Chimeran. Not only can she turn into a liger-sized part-lion-part-goat-part-scorpion shadow demon thing, she can turn into a crow and hide from you and also weaponize toxins stored in her bloodstream (or well-placed venom glands, haven’t decided yet.) when she hasn’t gone “beast-mode.” Last but not least, her senses of sight and hearing are amazing. Her sense of smell is variable, weak in her normal and crow form but powerful in her monster form. It may be worth noting that she tends to be reluctant to use her shapeshifting in combat for a couple of different reasons. She’d only resort to it if she feels cornered and absolutely nothing else works.

And she basically runs entirely on instinct when comes to these kinds of stressful situations. Lisa is intelligent, but not cunning, and as I said, she’s severely emotionally unstable.

To the person she’s trying to kill, God help you, probably. To the sweet-heart who tried to kill her, you’re likely harmless and cute enough she won’t take offense to your attempted murder.
Lexi (played by Lucretire)

6.

"Oh, so you like a... Darker shapeshiftin' Cre-bae? Oh now, that's epic! Le'see what y'got, kid!"

Unlike Lisa, Lexi's not that intelligent. And she's reckless and easy to anger in her own right, which Lisa can take advantage of and debilitate her with potions easily. The best way I see Lisa taking out Lexi is by finding out her main weak spot, which is her back, taunt Lexi into a rage, then go for her back with all of her potions.

However, she's a leader for a good reason: she has experience, strength, and can change tactics on the fly because of her unpredictability. All she needs to do is keep her distance from Lisa and shoot for an easy win. If Lisa does decide up close is a better option, it's a matter of endurance and skill, with Lexi being better at both since she's fought for far longer as an agent.

Then again, Lexi wouldn't pick on a cute girl unless she's actively looking for a fight.
So, about this phoenix:

She's an old, crazy soul who's not afraid to fight dirty, and once she finds a weak spot, she takes full advantage of it until her opponent gets smart and hides it. She holds countless years of experience fighting as a mercenary for an undercover multiversal agency.

Able to lift three times her own weight and run three to four times faster than the average human*, Lexi has lengthy experience in freestyle hand to hand combat, and is very much skilled with a gun. She's even developed her own technique, combining hand to hand skills with gun combat to create a tricky, albeit flashy dual-wielding fighting style. Lexi is also capable of natural flight and regenerative healing (minor wounds heal in one hour and major wounds take up to four days to heal; bones must also be aligned properly during the process or they'll heal in a malformed and/or unusable position).

(*Of course, these traits are inhibited or enhanced from world to world, so let's say for this exercise, she has the speed and strength capabilities that a human of her weight, height, and muscle bulk should have.)

When things get desperate, she shifts her guns into gauntlets with blasters in the palms, which tap into her natural fire element to shoot flaming projectiles. As a downside, the longer she uses it, the more it'll drain her element and send her into an enraged, uncontrollable berserker-like frenzy which can kill her from the inside out if not stopped.

Her back is a glaring weakness; hitting it will render her unable to fly, and especially hard hits will leave her stunned for a good while. Of course, since she's a phoenix, water and anything that can be used to douse fire can weaken her immensely to the point where she has to rely on her strength, and not her guns. Anything that kills mythical beasts or phoenixes can also destroy Lexi. She's also not immune to poisons or illness.

As a side note, the palms of her hands are a pseudo-weakness: touching them grants any living mortal creature--human, animal, or otherwise--immortality. (Supernatural creatures who are already immortal or have very long life spans may end up getting burned instead, depending on the RP.) Because of this, she keeps her palms covered with fingerless gloves at all times. Removing them renders her unable to continue a battle out of fear of touching her opponent with her bare hands. (Or at least, she has to literally stick to her guns and keep her distance.)
5. "So.... I guess we're beyond the point of negotiation, huh?"

Unlike most of the rest of her kind, Sox is not a spellcaster. Her skin doesn't let mana pass through it cleanly, so most attempts at spellcasting result in weak effects and her getting mana-burned. Using mana internally though? That's where she shines.

Empowering her body, I get the feeling Sox's overall strength, while not quite on par with Lexi's (overall 75% or so maybe?) would let her at least hold on pretty well while she realizes that she needs to fight Lexi like that girl's in power armour. Sox is very swift, graceful, and agile, an experienced dancer and gymnast from a culture where what most species would consider parkour is treated as "just how you get around." She also has extremely strong legs (at least when she's pumping mana into them). 15 meter (~50 foot) vertical leaps also mean very savage kicks, though I don't think she'd want to stay in hand-to-hand for long.

Hand-to-hand+firearm combat, though? Oh heck yes. Sox's favorite weapons are a pair of reinforced fans.... which are also basically street-sweepers, aka sawed-off shotguns. When folded, the two unusually thick outer arms of the fan are obviously barrels, and the recoild opens the fan, revealing the nanoblade running across the edge of the (primarily graphene) leaf. It's a slightly pretentious martial art where she's from, and its flowing dance-like style came very naturally to her.

One reason the value it 5 and not higher is that Sox's particular subspecies is strongly ...Nominally pyrokinetic, through "thermokinetic" might be more correct. They can convert excess heat into mana, and mana into fire. Of course, Sox has some issues with this due to her disability, but it means that she can at least limit the effectiveness of her foe's elemental abilities. Somewhat, no promises on how much. Thermite-hot would still be a problem

Sox is also a bit of a "wandering corporate heiress" type, with all the fancy, high-end tech that implies. A shield generator explicitly made to soak up a high-powered sniper shot with room for some small-arms fire afterward, a nice set of contact lenses connected to her personal electronics, feeding her a helpful HUD and some analysis of whatever she's dealing with as quickly as new data becomes available, a communications system that lets her reach out to corporate security or the rest of the independant covert assets team she fell in with, a fancy long-coat with a 2mm thick graphene lining (assuming she's bothing to wear anything more practical than her usual bra-top, short-shorts, long gloves, long socks, and leg-pouch for once, so we can probably actually ignore that one) a few doses of field-trauma nanotech solution that gives about thirty seconds of noticeable healing factor, and her bracelet! It's actually a foldable armour-piercing "bolt-spitter" type energy pistol. Doesn't make big holes in things, but will make a hole in it (barring shield generators being in play). She's not an expert marksman with it, but she's definitely more than just competent

To be good in the corporate world, she needs to be clever and figure out long and short term solutions to problems very quickly. Using the landscape, lucky opportunities, and every resource at her disposal translates just as well to the battle field as to the "puzzles" (actual very high-consequence, very urgent deals) her parents throw at her (usually at awkward times, like the middle of her showers) to train her for business life.

Lastly, as a probably less than useful skill in this case, assuming there's no chance of negotiation, her social skills! Less of a combat thing, assuming there's no chance of talking Lexi down in this situation, but she may be able to bluff her way out of things if she could convince her foe that, say, air-and-orbital-support was on the way. She's got quite the silver tongue.

As the five probably suggests, it seems to me like a pretty even match-up! Both are canny fighters with similar melee styles and comfort at range, with mutually (partially) neutralizing elemental abilities. Lexi is probably much more skilled and experienced than a young (180 years old) thrillseeking corporate heiress, but Sox's flashy hardware and funky tricks may give her an edge that evens things up.

As a note on vulnerabilities, her tails getting sheared off would be bad news, but I kinda class that with arm-or-leg loss. the only reason I bring it up because losing key balance tools and her mana-reserves is more severe than normal tail loss. That said, she's ultra protective of those three big fluff-noodles
Raven (played by DazzlingDragon)

7

“It’s been awhile since I’ve landed on the mouse side of this game. Bring it on!”

Once you catch Raven, she’s pretty much screwed. She has no defensive capabilities beyond her little kitty teeth and claws, making her an easy kill.

But you’ve gotta catch her first.

Raven tends to spark between maniacal chessmaster and absolute ditz with little-to-no go between, and it’s hard to tell if she’s ever playing stupid to trick you or of she’s honestly going to stroll into that deadly cave of monsters because, seconds earlier, she saw a fat mouse dart inside. Her impulsiveness would be easy to take advantage of early on, but once she realizes she’s actually in danger, she’d get a lot smarter.

She’s cunning, manipulative, and has all the uncanny cat senses and abilities she needs to stay hidden for a good, long time. She’s additionally under Lisa’s protection, so if you mess with Raven you might also have to deal with her.

Then again, Raven might reject her mistress’s protection if Sox seems either too harmless or too dangerous, or if she decides it’ll be more fun to see how long she can evade her enemy alone. Chances are Raven will view the hunt as a game until she escapes a few too many close calls.

The two reasons this isn’t a 10 is because she could either turn this into a war of attrition and last until Sox gives up or turn the tables by trapping her in some elaborate scheme. The former plan depends on exactly how much Sox wants her dead and the latter would require a good deal of luck on her part. Her best chance of survival lies in basically letting Lisa deal with the problem, but that’s not within her nature.
"Is it too late to pet you?"

I'm writing this without the inclusion of Lisa as that is the game I think, besides I've already seen raven wander off into danger personally leaving poor lisa scrambling to find raven.

With her tome in hand, isabella has a host of spells that would probably make short work of a cat, and with an ability to raise the dead to guard her, larger less nimble things would likely have less of a chance of reaching her.

A quick and nimble cat, however, particularly an intelligent one determined to end Isabella would likely be able to skate around these undead creatures in front of her, and which each of her spells requiring a read incantation, it's a near certainty that raven is going to get first strike, which essentially will be the result of a feral cat savagely attacking a 9 year old girl for a few moments.

Either the undead minions will remove raven forcefully or shell dodge them of her own accord, resulting in one of two things. Either a) the darkness envelops Isabella and squashing a cat becomes a lot easier with no cast times and improved magical strength, or b) the dodging offers isabella time to cast something to either slow the cat down, hold her in place, or end her right then.

Either way I feel isabella would most likely walk away from this, however I seriously doubt she would without any injuries unless the fight began from a distance and she was prepared, ready to take the kitty out before she reaches her. Most likely Isabella will have some recovering to do from this.

(Forgive me if I overlooked anything about raven)
Peregrine Florain (played by VanHelsing)

"I get your dangerous but I don't want to hit a kid"

Danger Level: 9

While Peregrine isn't in immense danger if Isabella went after her, the odds are highly stacked against her if she got into a fight with her for a number of reasons.

The first being Isabella's Maleficis Mihi and undead/spirit friends that'll be joining her. One of Peregrine's weaknesses are her blood range, she's only able to use it when she's withing a few feet of blood. If Isabella decides to sent some spirits or raise some corpses to attack her, even if they're easy to take down they'll be able to cause some difficulty for Peregrine seeing as not only do corpses and spirits not bleed, Isabella is able to play the range game and take out Peri from afar.

Next is how versatile the Maleficis Mihi is as it's capable of casting a plethora of spells and curses. Peri's blood ability is versatile as well, but is only limited by how much she has on hand and her range. We also can't ignore how the fight begins would greatly increase Isabella's odds of victory. Peri probably wouldn't suspect a child to be hunting her down so Isabella could get the drop on her real easy.

Then there's the fact that Isabella is resistant to all forms of physical damage. Unfortunately for Peregrine, using her blood to do damage is her only thing unless she gets creative and is at a major disadvantage.

With all this Peri's best strategy is to get the Maleficis Mihi as soon as possible and removing any opportunity for Isabella to cast spells. With her having the appearance of a child, Peri would just think that the fight was over and she didn't have to hurt a kid, even if the kid was a corpse at this point.

But the biggest thing going against her has to be The Darkness. With it working without the Maleficis Mihi, that would mean that Peri not only can't hurt her but can't stop her from attacking. And given how great the power of the spells are, she might not have enough time to run before getting blasted with who knows what.

In Summary: If Peri can't get that book in time it's all over for her.
((Just to note this publicly so as not to show inaccuracies, Isabella is not resistant to all forms of physical damage, the Maleficis Mihi is. Physically shes about as resistant to damage as any 9 year old would be))

Solvfrid is a master of magic and sorcery, and is deadly especially in the mists or at sea, whether natural or those she has summoned. Her range is far less limited than Peregrine's; however, the woman's powers would intrigue her and she would be focused on trying to figure them out and perhaps convince her to serve the elf instead of fight her, even while defending herself, which would prove a distraction, hence why the number is not lower.
Fenkia Fluffbuther (played by VanHelsing)

11
(Lovely character by the way, had a lot of fun reading about her)

If Fenkia was on the offensive here things would be a whole lot different but everything that Solvfrid has is serious bad news for this little Goblin.

It doesn't help that by default that Solvfrid is stronger, smarter, more experienced, and more skilled then Fenkia, Fenkia would likely be unaware if anyone was after her unless it was incredibly obvious (A magic bolt flying out of nowhere for example). A dose of Glamour would be more then enough to lull her into a false sense of safety and leg her guard down and sent a quick blast to the heart.

Kiss of Mist and Geas wouldn't be any difficulty whatsoever for Solvfrid to use if she wanted to turn her into a thrall rather then killing her. Fenkia is both smaller and weaker then her, but would likely turn off her own gravity to slip away from her grasp, Solvfrid probably wouldn't expect her to just start floating away.

Best case scenario would for Fenkia to be fully aware of what Solvfrid is trying to do and be able to act. Her weakness against iron and steel work perfectly in her favor, one slash from her blade would be enough to make her float up high and let gravity do the rest. Fenkia unfortunately has little combat experience and zero training, going up against a 1500 year old being who's likely been in many fights would make it one sided, even without magic. A side step or teleport from behind would be the opening she'd need to just grab her by the wrist and snatch the blade away from her.

But out of everything, the biggest threat is that nose right capable of destroying iron and steel. One blast from that and Fenkia's beloved sword would be reduced to metal shards which would be more then enough to scare the life out of her and give up immediately.
5/10

Dorge is, well, not the most physically inclined. A single hit from Fenkia's blade would probably be enough to kill him, and he stands little chance of running away. His only hope is if he brought one of his precious sheep with him. (A little background, Dorge is obsessed with sheep, and has created flocks of explosive mechanical ones.) If he had some with him, he'd probably simply cower behind a sheep, hoping that it would scare her off. If/when that fails entirely, he'll be forced to detonate one of them, possibly sending her into the heavens.

Unfortunately, if he doesn't have a sheep, all he can do is try to trick her. Unluckily for him, his spur of the moment decisions are... lacking.
Is this....a joke?

3

Judging by the description Dorge gave to his prior opponent, I feel a lot of the same applies to his fight with cry. With improved dense muscles and the ability to float at high speeds after him, I struggle to see poor Dorge running or surviving a direct attack from Crii with or without her weapons. Add to this her energy abilities, and if Crii is really trying she will undoubtedly win.

Dorge, however, has a couple advantages he probably wouldnt be completely aware of. Crii's race views hitting males similarly to how humans view wife beating, its vulgar inappropriate behavior unbecoming of any female to strike a man. With her warrior streak in her, if Dorge is found frightened or cowering she would be reluctant to open an attack until he did something to deserve it.

Add to this her arrogant overconfidence and lack of knowledge on sheep. Mind you if the sheep have an internal power source (active one outside of the explosive device which I imagine is the result of a reaction more than an overload) she would be able to feel that, but even then the whole idea of sheep would just confuse her, and if Dorge played his cards right she could fall prey to an exploding sheep relatively easily. I'm not sure how big the explosion would be but even if it only damages her and doesnt kill her I'm guessing Dorge has a few more sheep he could send her way XD
Flynn Auburn (played anonymously)

6

“I’m so over my head”

He has absolutely no special abilities that will aid him and only has his twin daggers to fight anyone off, no particular style to how he fights he just slashes and hopes he hits something.

He uses his wings for defense as he folds them around him when he knows he’s about to take a blow and the large feathers can shield him most the time.

He would try to sly his way outta the fight and trick his attacker but his wings are so large he most of the time fails, making a mess.

His girlfriend Tink would have to come save his tail, again.
5

“Wouldn’t you rather talk?”

Although he is a dragon, Zafnir is naturally diplomatic and not experienced in combat. Provided Flynn does his research and knows what to expect from a threatened dragon, the playing field is remarkably even thanks to the big guy’s reluctance to fight.

Zafnir’s greatest strength lies in his ability to negotiate. He’ll first try to strike a deal or otherwise persuade Flynn to leave him alone, likely making appeals to his opponent’s empathy or morality. Failing that, he’ll flee. Failing that, he’ll finally go on the defensive. In direct combat, Zafnir has the advantages of brute strength, high defense, fire magic, and some of the same strategic thinking he employs when trying to negotiate with someone. On the other hand, he’s slow on the ground and his goal will almost always be to disarm, not kill. The reluctance to fire a potentially lethal blow will limit his ability to attack. I personally believe the fight would be a matter of who has the superior strategy and physical endurance.
Kiluri (played by Avitrathephoenix)

7

"Pleasedon'tkillmeI'llbuyyouanentireplanetorgalaxyspiralarmifIhavetooooooo!!!!!!!"

Small bird, large dragon. The problem for Kiluri here is pretty obvious. Between her getting panicky and the fact that she's about 40lbs soaking wet and after a large meal, this shouldn't be a challenge for Zaffnir to finish the job.

With two exceptions.

Her one natural defensive trick is to curl up into a ball and shoot venom-filled needles out of her back. They're only so sharp, fast, or toxic though, and probably don't act quickly enough to work well on something as big as the dragon in question

Her less natural defence is money. She legitimately could probably buy or pay to have acquired almost anything anyone could name. The "entire spiral arm of a galaxy" bit in her reaction quote isn't an exageration, other than the difficulty of finding one for sale. It.... usually doesn't work like that. That said, everyone has their price, and she'd be willing to double it.

If we're beyond extreme bribery, though, this is more like an 8 or a 9.
"Wait.....how much did you just say?"

5

I'm having a difficult time deciding on this exactly which is why I outright wrote middle ground. Truth is, I don't feel like Kiluri is much of a combatant, and truth is Pix is only as much a combatant as her own society has made her, which is far more than the average society. Trained from 8 years old with blades and with her energy abilities a straight fight I feel while Pix is not the most skilled or interested in combat, she would have a good edge over Kiluri.

However....Kiluri holds Pix's kryptonite which can swiftly defeat her if offered. Pix can easily be bribed, offer her something valuable, be it money or gems or whatever else she finds valuable, and not only would Pix stand down, you could probably pay her to attack the next person in line. Of course, theres a pretty good chance she will just pay someone else a lower figure and pocket the difference, then be found in a different star system before any of it actually goes down.

A straight fight? I say about a 3
If bribery is involved? Whole hearted 10
