So I had an rp with someone who was very prompt with their replies and then suddenly they stopped replying for about a week. So I pmed them a few days ago asking if something was going on irl. Well I got a reply saying that yes they had something going on irl, but that it would be over in a few days and then things would be back to normal. They also sent me a post for our PM rp.

Well I just checked my inbow a few hours later to find that not only have they deleted their character, they also deleted their account which I'm really confused about. I wonder, did something happen in those few hours between our last communication and this deletion?

Anyone else have anything weird like this happen?
Rogue-Scribe

Yeah, I've had that happen. It leaves one to wonder what was going on, but what can you do. If I'm heavily invested in the story, I will claim it as mine and write out a finish, then incorporate it into my character's profile via a text page.
This happens all the time. It's not really weird or irregular even; if anything it's very common. I've had it happen more times than I can count. I've had people delete their account within an hour of pming me with interest, before I even replied to them. I've had people delete their account after several weeks of rping without warning.

People have posted about it dozens of times on the forum and the answer is always:

If they left, they left. We can assume many reasons, but in the end they decided they no longer wanted to be part of RPR, so they deleted their account.

It sucks half the time, but it is what it is. Definitely don't blame yourself and try to just move forward. It's the best and only thing you can really do.

Thanks for the replies, though I want to be clear that I'm not blaming myself, I was just wondering if maybe something happened irl for them.

I have had people delete characters and accounts before, but never as suddenly as this so it threw me for a loop.

It happens. Don't blame yourself. There are plenty of freinds and roleplayers on here.

It is clear that you are not blaming yourself in this situation and I can definitely see how this sort of situation threw you for a loop. Unfortunately, there isn't a way to know what actually happened in their personal situation. There are so many variables for what could have happened, but the best way to look at it is that if that person decides to come back and approach you again, let them know you're not upset with them for leaving if they feel comfortable with explaining it to you.

Sometimes people do this for mental health reasons, emergencies, impulsive emotional reactions to outside or inside sources, or even situations where someone could get kicked from the sight or their parent situation could get them removed from the site itself. There are hundreds of variables, and while it's confusing, it's best not to try and dig into the mystery. lol As tempting as those mysteries can definitely be.

This IS something that happens on RPR and around the internet quite often. I saw a very common theme of it on tumblr while I traversed that end of the internet for some time. It's frustrating and confusing, and extremely common. :)
It's happened to me at least twice.

What it sounds like to me is maybe that they got overwhelmed with something in real life and suddenly felt like RpR was a distraction or a pressure that they couldn't deal with at that time, so closing the account might have been a way to take one thing off their plate and maybe it was easier than confronting each person and telling them what was going on. I know it sucks because you probably worry about that person and want to help (and I would feel the same) but like someone told me once in a similar situation, "just be glad for them that they're doing what they feel like they need to do to take care of themselves," even if closing their account is what they felt was needed.

But yeah...it does happen sometimes and I've been there.
