Mark is a caretaker, he gets joy out of life from taking care of small weaker people. Especially Nekos, something about their cute cat features make him find them simply adorable.
We could discuss more in dm but this is the general idea for the plot, that Mark finds/rescues the Neko and begins to nurse it back to health or just take care of it in general.
