Hi, yes, Avi awake. Really.
The

Yes, I’m like 90% sure I have herbivores if you wanna message me Avi. Just trying to see if Naida can do anything to actually help the battle. She’s pretty useless.
Quick question for the future I just thought of....these shards controlling carnivore and herbivore only effect living carnivores and herbivores respectively right?

Edit: also the arthropods shard I believe would be inclusive of this question 🤔
Isabella never noticed Drake moving to intercept her, and as she ran to try and escape in her panic she tripped, perhaps over her own feet even, and collapsed to her hands and knees. The book fell before her as she did, and she landed her arms on either side of it, hurting only the fist she kept still wrapped around the shard as she essentially punched the ground when she landed.

Suddenly arms were around her, and as she looked up and pulled the book closer, still standing on her knees, she met Drakes eyes. His soft voice and handsome face was comforting, even if for only a moment, and while the child was still panicked, she didn't immediately believe this man was intending to harm her. She stared with tear filled eyes a few moments, pulling the book up towards her chest again while still staring at Drake and blinking a few tears out of her eyes.

As she pawed and the top of the book with her fingers, she realized the feeling of the thick edges of both the tops of the pages as well as the tomb's cover had changed. Rather than the smooth edges of the pages accompanied by the hard metal outline of the book, it now felt as though a small rodent, perhaps a hamster, had softly gnawed ridged humps into the top of it. Isabella's frightened face came with a furrowed brow now and her head dropped to watch her book.

With the slight sound of what might be confused as the crackling of a calm fireplace, pieces of the tome almost evaporated into the air. They floated slowly off as if never truly connected to the book itself, and seemed to almost disappear into a small cloud of black that hovered before Isabella. The girl watched this, the book slowly disappearing as it flaked into these pieces in front of her, and slowly pushed the book out in front of her. Her face changed, now showing some interest hidden behind all the fear that still dominated her mind.

"It's happening again...." she whispered as she watched, somewhere in between talking to herself and informing Drake, as if he was familiar with this experience. Her eyes locked with Drake's, focusing on him now, and letting the world beyond them remain drowned out, and trying to hold onto that feeling of comfort she initially felt when Drake placed his hands on her.

The Maleficis Mihi's disintegration happened rather quickly, and even seemed to speed up as it proceeded. It was when the book was about halfway gone, this cloud moved quickly, disappearing into Isabella's chest and the reaction she portrayed suggested a feeling accompanied this. Her eyebrows raised and her mouth opened in a gasp, her head lurching forward slightly in the representation of a physical reaction.

As the book disappeared into a cloud, and the cloud penetrated Isabella's chest, the girls face slowly changed. The expression she held slowly disappeared. The fear, the tears, the panic, all of it melted away into a blank expression that showed no fear, no sadness, no malice, no anything. Simultaneously, the obviously bright green eyes of the girls slowly clouded. In fact, it was not only the iris which clouded, but the entirety of the eye which quickly clouded with black. Soon the eyes which still stared back into Drakes were the darkest black in their entirety, almost shining in a gloss finish as Isabella stared blankly towards, and perhaps through, drake.

The eyes were not the only thing physically effected. An observant eye might see the symbols which were seen almost hidden up the book take shape in a dull grey on Isabella's hands. It was possible these ran up her arms as well, but with her dress sleeves covering to her wrists it was impossible to tell.

With the transformation completed, even as subtly as it may have been for some, Isabella emitted strong dark energies making clear to anyone able to detect magic there had been a dark change in her. She stood and turned around, staring blankly at the inquisitor. Her head glaced over quickly to Nadia, standing surrounded by enemies before looking back to the inquisitor.

The child slowly floated off the ground, still clutching the shard in her left fist. As she reached only a couple feet off the ground, she cast her right hand directly outward, off to the side with her palm backwards. Upon full extension the arm stalled there, and behind Isabella a large complex glyph of a pentagram appeared in a deep green color with her in a centralized location within the design.

Isabella's right hand remained out and she pulled the shard in her left closer to her face, opening and displaying it in her palm and looking down to inspect it a moment. Energy seemed to radiate from the center of the glyph out towards the 5 pointed ends surrounding the girl, noted visually by an increased glow as it projected outwards. As the glow reached the end, a flame lit on the tip of each of the 5 points of the glyph.

Isabella's attention reverted to the inquisitor once again, wondering inwardly what the blood magic of the shard would do. Currently, however, she was under fire, and it made more sense to use the defenses she knew that to begin exploring the shard's abilities. She gripped the shard tightly with her left hand, hovering there only a couple feet off the ground, and thrust her right hand forward with her palm directly at the inquisitor.

One at a time in quick succession the green flames at the end of each point of the glyph emitted large fireballs quickly in the direction of the inquisitor, 3 of which flew directly in his direction, the remaining 2 aiming for the nearest guards to Nadia in an attempt to keep Isabella's friend safe.
Victi Aurora Silverfur (played by Avitrathephoenix) Topic Starter

Oh crap... this is awesome! That kind of integration effect.... and those flow-lines are so clean! Not perfectly orderly, but almost like a multi-generational evolution....

Victi was almost yipping with excitement while watching Isabella's transformation, thoughts flying as she observed the auras of book and girl flow and twist together perfectly! It was incredible!

That said, if the city's gates locked and things went extra poorly, getting into the library without a fuss would be a frickin' nightmare, and she'd have to come up with a new disguise.

* * *

Further down, Geoff would put up a large defensive bubble to help ward off the fireballs headed toward that end, worried about himself, Naida, and most of the soldiers, though the Inquisitor was left exposed. The barrier would shatter from the first blast, with only a couple guardsmen being caught by the second as they scattered. Geoff's own personal protections would barely withstand the strike that got through.

* * *

While Victi would normally be kinda okay seeing how all of this went down, and seeing the jerky inquisitor get smashed in, she had other priorities right now. She forced a destructive interference pattern on the magic holding the fireballs together using her own spell. Ideally, they would detonate somewhat before reaching the chimera, and.... burn him less? eh, close enough to saving him, she could claim a legitimate effort even if he died. That seemed good enough to not get banned from the city or something.

The Inquisitor lept to one side, raising his holy symbole at the same time. Even in spite of the glowing aura surrounding him and Victi's counterspelling, though, he definitely caught some of the blast.

Summary of results, since it's more than the numbers

Geoff is injured, but holding on okay between his protections, in spite of moving into harm's way.

The Inquisitor is BADLY burnt, but alive for the moment.

3 guards total are dead, and a 3 more are injured.

Kneeling to her level, Drake breathes a sigh of relief that her fall didn't seem to hurt her too much. Though as he reaches for her cheek to help wipe some of those tears away, he asks with a gentleness that doesn't belong to the sleazy mercenary assassin he is, but a warm father figure. "'Ey, that's quite a tumble you took there; you alright kid?"

Instead of answering, the child presses her book tightly against her chest. A puzzled look crosses his face, but then again, he wouldn't be surprised if this was like a security blanket or stuffed animal to her; no wonder she doesn't want someone to- that change of expression came a little suddenly...

He watches as the spellbook dissolves into a cloud of dark mist. "Uh...it's happening again, you say? Mind telling me...wha...!?" An involuntary gasp escapes him as the pool of black plunges into her chest, making her head lurch forward just once. Once, then she goes still and even her frightened expression melts away. The child stares ahead at him blankly, apparently unseeing and unfeeling.

Drake's heart drops. "Kid?" No answer, he grabs her shoulders and tries shake her out of it, "Hey! Are you-the hell!?" Her eyes cloud over until she shoots a look through him with eyes of pitch black, a pool of shadows having flooded from the pupils to swallow all else. He jolts to his feet backs away from the child possessed as she begins to rise into the air. He tenses, afraid for the moment that she's targeting him. He pulls his sword from its sheath and prepares to defend himself.

Then she turns her attention to the group clustered around the gate. He relaxes a little, but tightens his grip on the sword. Maybe he's misinterpreting Victi's giddiness, but he has a feeling they're gonna be fighting someone. He steps behind a young woman throwing up a liquid shield (Really?) while summoning some armor of his own, metallic growths sprouting on his forearm which he holds up in front of him. An awfully narrow shield, but a strong one.

"Hey," he hisses at Ren. "Any chance you and that under-grown dark mage need a hand?"
Ren (played by The)

Ren stepped back in shock when the child made her transformation, but she couldn't help herself from smiling a little bit. This girl has a bit more to her than she lets on, she thought with her smirk. She barely glanced at Drake but answered his offer to help, "I wouldn't say no at the moment." No longer worrying about Isabella for the time being, Ren turned her attention to Naida. Isabella's attacks seemed to scatter the guards that weren't killed or injured, so Ren turned her shield into a wave, aimed at the Inquisitor. When it got close enough, the water separated into bullet-sized fragments, each hardening into ice. The effect of impact would be the same as an average bullet. Should any strike, Ren will follow the attack by gathering up the remaining water from the missed projectiles and return them into a shield, but this time around her fairy friend.
Naida (played by The)

"Friend?!" Naida cried out louder, worried about Isabella with her sudden change to darkness. As the child rose into the air and sent out her attack, Naida fought the urge to duck and hide. She convinced herself that Isabella wouldn't hurt her, not after she shared the mantis, but she still felt relieved when the fireballs hit the guards instead of her. With Ren attacking the Inquisitor, and Isabella seemingly okay other than a little darkness thing, Naida's attention went to Geoff. Seeing her some-what friend injured, she darts over to him (hopefully dodging any attacks if they come her way) and grabs his hand. "Buddy?" she asked with obvious concern. "Are you okay?" Throughout the rest of this fight, Naida will keep a hold of Geoff. Soon, Ren's shield surrounds both the fairy and the magician.

The inquisitor rolls to one side as soon as Ren begins to act, narrowly dodging her punnishing storm of ice. The chimera's seared face twists into a fierce snarl as his body transforms and grows, fur spreading and skull reshaping. Shortly after he stands up, an impressive scorpion-tailed lion-like beast stands in his place, fiery fur scorched by Isabella's flames making him look as if a living inferno.

Having presented his natural abilities, he demonstrates his learned skills as well, in this case in the form of a mighty, resonant roar which carryies forth a wave of golden light toward Drake, Ren, and Isabella. It erupts into a cylinder of glowing golden bars, chains, and filigree surrounding the three as it reaches them, trapping them in a cage of harsh, overbearing light.
Isabella's unblinking eyes stare across to the carnage her fireballs cause with an obvious and apparent lack of feeling. Nadia calls out to the child and again her response lacks emotion, simply staring into the crowd at the Inquisitor who now works on his counter attack. Isabella's arms drop and the glyph behind her vanishes. She watches with that flat face as he shouts in her direction, causing a magical 'cage' to befall her, Ren, and Drake.

Isabella subtlety opens her right palm in the direction of this Inquisitor, but its effect is not sprung directly from her hand, nor is it apparent right away. She keeps her eyes fixated on him, the burned chimera, while holding a lack of feeling etched deeply on her face.

Her eyebrows raise slightly seeing it, the effects of her spell taking shape. The three guards who had fallen each now risen as her undead thrall, taking up whatever arms they had in death, or perhaps whatever was left nearby. Their target primarily became the inquisitor, in case perhaps this spell had a channeling effect he had to keep up. Even if it didn't this was the man Isabella desired most to see killed, and as such each of the three dead warriors she now instructed aimed to attack him first, only changing their target to remove whatever, or whoever, might be preventing that task.
Urug (played by frostwyrmm)

Urug sat surprised for a second, amazed that someone had accepted a hug from an orc. Smiling warmly, he returned the hug in a gentle manner before moving back. "Good to meet you, Jules!" He also took the time to stick his tongue out at Raven, feeling like he was interacting with the children.

"If you need to talk to people, maybe I can get the study ready for you boss?"
Alastor Kain (played by frostwyrmm)

Alastor closed his eyes and took a deep breath. "No need, Urug. It'll be fine as is." He also gave a slight wave of the hand in front of himself. No need to keep up the act either. "Shall we?" Alastor began leading the way, looking concerned all the while.

Arriving at his destination, Alastor ushered those who followed inside. Within, a desk sat in the middle of the room. In the center of it, a few books sat open with pages next to them. A pair of reading glasses sat to one side of it, and an inkwell and quill to the other. Two chairs sat in front of the desk, as well as one behind. One wall of the room was lined with shelves, stocked with books of varying topics all organised according to their contents. The other wall held but one cabinet, which was locked tight.
Ren (played by The)

Ren soon realized their only chance of surviving at this point would be to escape. Taking action quickly after her failed attack, Ren opened her other canteens and pulled all of her water together. Before she could use her powers to get the group away, she had to get the group together. Naida, can you get over here?she reached out to her familiar telepathically. However, Naida was too concerned over Geoff to take notice. With a sigh, Ren swirled the water around herself and Isabella, unaware of Drake standing so close and accidentally bringing him along.

Instead of immediately taking the group straight to safety, they reappeared behind Naida. Ren grabbed the fairy's arm, but Naida pulled back. "No," she yelled over the noise of the battle. "Geoff is hurt!"

"Fine," Ren sighed. At this, the fairy smiled and grabbed Geoff's hand again. Ren closed her eyes as she let the water swirl around the large group, swallowing everyone and closing in until the group disappeared.

When Ren opened her eyes, she stood back in the caves she called home. She sighed with relief as she looked around at the massive cavern, filled with vases of water, stalagmites and stalactites of various sizes. The group stood on the edge of a small pool of water, which seemed to glow, filling the cave with an eerie light. Ren immediately lit the torches around the room, which was the extent of her elemental fire magic.

Turning back to the group, Ren noticed Drake. "Well, crap," she sort of growled in frustration. "Now we've kidnapped two people." Before she could say more, Ren was distracted by Geoff. He was on the ground at the edge of the pool, with a brave Naida standing between him and Isabella.

"Friend, he's our buddy," the fairy tried to explain. "He's not fighting you any more."

At the library

A guardsman strides purposefully through the main doors, giving Cornelius a nod before walking to the back.

"Ma'am," he mutters to the High Inquisitor, "We have a serious situation at the main gate. Richard's shifted and we've got at least two outsider spellcasters involved, including a necromancer."

Thalia promptly closed her, book, stood up, and walked swiftly out of the library, a look of pure hatred on her sharp-featured face. As soon as she got outside, she sprinted toward the gate in question, luminous trails following her magically-enhanced steps....
Liliath had gotten bored again and when Thalia left for serious business she wanted to go to.

“Can I go to, I’ts boring here please can I go to.”
She smiles but was confused. She didnt have the slightest idea of what was going on. With all the children She saw and new people she wasnt listening to much. She followed Alastor looking like she was lost in thought.

"Am I supposed to follow? I'm just confused as to what I'm doing... or supposed to do." She says as she looks up at him.
Lisa raises an eyebrow at the approaching guard, and she listens quietly while he reports a “serious situation” at the gate. It seems a little unorthodox that he mentions Richard to her with only a first name and no title. This oddity becomes even stranger when absolute fury takes over Thalia’s face as she leaves swiftly and without a single word.

That isn’t nearly as important as the mention of spellcasters, one of whom is a necromancer- so decidedly not her, assuming Lisa correctly rememberers what she’d overheard the other night between Raven and Adriannu -but that says nothing for whoever else is involved.

Watching this, Lisa closes her own book. As soon as the High Inquisitor leaves her sight, she breaths a sigh of relief and stands too, picking up the book she’d been reading and also the one Lady Thalia had.

“Yes, we should go,” she says, but then she presses the two books against her chest in one arm and reaches to grab Liliath’s hand, hopefully stopping her from chasing Thalia. “But not where’s she’s going; it’s not sa-“ she stops, remembering how the High Inquisitor convinced the girl help them research.

“I have something a little more fun in mind. These books would look nice in a castle, and,” her voice drops to a whisper, “that shard would look pretty good in a castle too. Come with me and maybe we’ll get to keep it.”

At the orphanage

Raven does end up landing on a tail. Or, rather, on several tails. And not too close to the tips, either. The magistrate's careful movement wound up with her landing in the middle of a sea of sandy and coppery fluff. His outer tails fold over her slightly, lightly entrapping her in fuzz.

"Yes, please, follow us. We will speak of a few matters once we are all in private." Kylarion confirms to Jules, following Urug and Alastor with Raven still in his tails, as if nothing were amiss.

Once in the study, he stands next to the desk, briefly looking at a book left open on it, searching for a particular passage for a moment for when they began.
Raven (played by DazzlingDragon)

“AhHAH!” Raven lets out a triumphant laugh as her paws hit the mark, landing dead-center on the target tail(s). She sinks willingly into the fluff, satisfied, until a shadow falls over her and she looks up.

“Oh, no-“ the outer tails fall over her, engulfing the tiny cat in an ocean of desert-sand fur. “Mmffph!”

It the takes the entirety of their short walk to the office for Raven to struggle free. She flops out of the world’s softest maze and falls on her side, propelled by the weight of the lopsided catpack and shard within. She pushes herself up halfway, then decides standing isn’t worth the effort and collapses again. Her tail lashes, stirring up dust clouds that billow and glint in the dim ambient light.

Other than that, she doesn’t seem upset about being mildly duped. With a pleasant chirping sound she rolls over to face Kylarion, something important (to her) crossing her mind. Before they talk about anything else, she has to know what happened. She suspects he has something to do with her friend’s’ disappearing. Collapsed buildings leave bodies; they don’t literally make people vanish.

“Where’s Lisa and Adriannu?”
