I was random idea I had while writing PM reply, but, if it's not too costy on servers, maybe unfinished messages could be saved in drafts (like in g-mail and most other mail providers I know), for times when people don't have time to finish and save it someplace else.

I do like this idea! :) Kim is redesigning the PM system in the future, so this may be an option she already considered. I would like this, personally.

(In the meantime, you can always send yourself a PM and store it in a folder for safekeeping. Marking it unread will show a (1) or any number of unread items next to the folder name)

That works, too, but if there's any chance, it would be nice feature to have after revamp. I also thought that maybe since PMs are going to be more like private thread, there could be chance they can be edited after being sent/posted, because if feels so bad to notice a typo or tiny grammar mistake right after you sent it...

Being able to edit PMs makes me queasy as a moderator. Right now, PMs can't be edited, so anything we send to members as a moderator and everything we receive 'is as it is'. Should someone make wild claims, we can always refer back to the actual PM conversation and know without a shadow of a doubt what was said, and those words can't be twisted.

Same goes for interactions between members: a 'he said, she said' game can make it tough for moderators to mediate between arguments and figure out the truth.

An alternative would be to have a 'revisions' system where edits can be seen, but in huge walls of texts this can be super inconvenient. It also feels redundant for the purpose of typo editing for a multitude of reasons.

I do agree that it would be nice to edit out typos, but the site is growing so fast and so big, the potential for abuse from a moderator standpoint is too big and makes me very uneasy to think about.

Drafts had not even occurred to me! I will start mulling it over.

If PMs are editable, it will be something like a five minute time limit before they are locked forever, so you can catch your typos but lessen the chances of exactly the abuses Sanne described.

Ah, that thought had not occurred to me, that explains why it had not been implemented. Same reason why we don't get deleting option for our posts in forum. (On that matter, is it alright if we report our own double/accident posts for mod to remove or just leave it there with explanation?)

5 minutes, though, would be fine, too, I suppose and I hope the mulling is successful, Kim. :)

Double posts are supposed to be protected against, so you should probably report the post so I can look into it as a bug! :) Be sure to include whether it occurred via the forums themselves or in chat mode, and if you were doing anything else at the time.

Well, sometimes you do it on accident, it's not so much of bug as mistake. :)

You mean like you write a post, forget you did it, and write another one with the same meaning but different text?
Sadrain Topic Starter

Yeah, something like that, and I was more curious about posts you make in thread that you thought was open and is closed. I haven't had that happen, but seen for others, and thought if it's possible to ask mod remove them.

We can definitely delete posts that are double-posts, off-topic or posted in a dead topic. As long as it doesn't disturb the flow of the conversation going on, you can send us a PM or report the post. :)
