So, apparently there's a heat wave going on here in Belgium... Temperatures have been above 25 degrees and are now reaching 33 degrees celcius, only to keep rising throughout the week and hit 36 at some point.

I feel lucky that I'm not in France, Paris will get 40 degrees celcius soon and even though our temperatures are less high, it already affects me majorly.

I have heat allergies resulting in red spots showing up all over my skin that itch and burn as well as feeling dizzy, having headaches, easily getting migraines and feeling sick.

It sucks and I really dislike it, I can't wait for it to be fall already so that I can finally do things throughout the day again. At this point, the temperatures are simply making me unable to focus and I can't even write or finish posts properly. It's truly a pain and I feel guilty because I do want to get decent posts out to not keep anyone waiting.

Anyone else that really gets affected by heat and wishes for all of it to be over soon?

I don't get badly affected really. It's more, because I'm Scottish and lived in Scotland most of my life, I'm not used to English summers. In Scotland it never gets that hot, probably 16C at maximum on the hottest days. But ever since I've moved to England it gets to like 25C on a cold day in summer, and my body just simply isn't adapted for that.
I have a pretty limited temperature range that I'm very functional at. Too hot, lethargy sets in and I don't want to move. Too cold, I just want to bundle in blankets and nap. I also just want to nap all the time when it's hot, but sleep becomes difficult.

I'm much more prone to mouth sores (usually just a minor taste bud infection) when it's hot.

I get, like... weirdly tired when I go out in the sun? Even if it's not especially hot. It seems to only affect me when I'm actually outside, although it's generally not quite immediate. Makes me wonder if it's just some minor allergy thing to something in the air.

And I'm one of those people who usually never drinks enough water, so... y'know.
I feel for you, Syl, and you're definitely not alone in that. I've heard from several people in several different countries that are really feeling it and scrambling to figure out how to manage the potential effects.

For my own knowlege, I looked up the conversation to F and I'm gonna share it here in case anyone is wondering the same:

33 C = 91.4 F
36 C = 96.8 F
40 C = 104 F

40 degrees C in France is shocking because it's at such a higher latitude than here in Texas, and we get temperatures that high only very rarely for a few days a year during the hottest part of summer. And it's a completely different situation here versus the situation in Europe because air conditioning is almost universal here because of the fact that it has to be. Apartments include it like including a refrigerator or stove. But I've heard the opposite is true at higher latitudes...that air conditioning is extremely unusual.

Here in Dallas, Texas it's expected to be 88 F/ 31 C today and the high for the week is Thursday 91 F/ 32.7 C. But that's normal here this time of year. However to think of it being as hot as Texas where you are is pretty shocking. And with no AC, I can see how it would be awfully distracting. I think I'd be in the shower half the time. I hope it passes soon.

cholingeric urticaria - i've got the same thing, and it's miserable! i break out in itchy welts and red splotches when i get too hot, particularly when it's humid. it also causes me to be very sensitive to heat. i get hot when it's above 60.

doesn't help that this year has set record heat for my area. even the dogs are miserable.
My time to shine. It’s hot. So hot here in the US. I’m weak to heat, I get sick easily

Literally 10 minutes ago I was baking. Got super dehydrated/ like, can’t see, stand, breathe, shaky hands and feeling like I’m gonna puke.

I’m laying under a fan right now. Don’t worry, I’m getting better, but yeah
i think that today is the warmest day of the year where i live; it's currently 27C which is pretty high, even in the summer. luckily it seems like it's going to be a bit cooler (22 to 25C, which in my opinion is still hot) in the next few days but i don't have much energy or motivation to do anything when it's this hot. at least there's still some wind because it would be unbearable if there was none. last night was the first tropical night of this year, which i can definitely tell today (as i, mentioned earlier, don't have too much energy for anything today) but that's just how it is. i don't like the warmer temperatures but i do my best to stay hydrated and open windows to get some air inside!
* i'm very used to talking about the weather because where i live, people usually make smalltalk about the weather, hahah; so i promise i'm not complaining or anything :')

It hit 37C where I live earlier this week. It was miserable, we pretty much walked around in drenched kitchen towels for a while and kept chugging a lot of water. Today the temp maxed out at 28C but the apartment heated up over 30C again thanks to the sun and the flat roof apartment we live in. I'm also really looking forward to the end of summer and the beginning of fall!

It's in the top 80s and 90s this weekend. And all next week excessive heat warnings. Make sure your pet animals get enough water😼🐶.

... and I’m still scraping ice....

I’ll bring this thread up around Christmas time with a summer heat report... ;)

May I throw in a hint to help you guys?

Wet a hand/dish towel and throw it in the freezer for a while. Once frozen, Wear around your neck and let the water drip as the towel melts." Once the towel is warm, wet and freeze again.

You can keep more than one towel in the freezer.
