I thought of this today. My name, Sabrina, in short means "princess." Really I think it derives from a "princess who drowned in India" or something like that? But shortened, it's "princess."
Then I began to think about all the other amazing names and their meanings, what they could be.
This was mainly due to me trying to figure up a name on the fly, so I went to an elf name list that had the elvish version of actual names of our world parallel to the original name. I think mine was Aranel?
AND I know there's a few RPs out there where you roleplay as yourself, but what if there was one where your name's meaning actually had relevance to who you were? Or something about you or your past or something? I'unno.
Just a thought!
Also here are the links to the site I mentioned!

Heavenly. I sense a Lawful Good angel, which is not what anyone wants to see me play. I am getting only slightly better with Lawful Neutral, as there may be a knight boom in Furcadia.
I've always known that Michelle, being the masculine form of Michael, means "Who is like God?" I often use that to tease people but I never thought about it in this context. Personally, I'm a deist, so my views on God would make me as a character, I want to say, either an ultimate neutral or ambivalent neutral. If there is such a thing lol.
My elvish name was Eraisuithiel (Air-eye-soo-ee-thee-ell) very pretty I thought thanks for sharing.

Sanne is derived from Susanna (people who can't pronounce my name can call me Susan for this reason!), which is a Hebrew derivation from Shoshannah, which means 'lily' (also 'rose' in modern Hebrew).
I've no idea how that would be incorporated to an RP though, unless I'm going to impersonate TheLily. B)
BUUUT my Elvish name would Indilwen I guess?

My full name is there, but not the name I currently go by Also, it lists the meaning of my name as different than it is, because it means harbour of boats rather than flat stone. Either way it makes it hard to make an RP character with those meanings.
It's something neat, though. Thank-you for sharing.

Well my name isn't there (lol it never is) but my short form name which I usually go by is. Niki(they spell it with 2 ks though) is Turwaithiel
(Toor-wye-thee-ell) in elvish and means victorious among the people. Ha I find this amusing as most think I'm weird, friendly but weird.
If I were to rp something like this, I can see a successful ruler/politician lol.

Seeing as I have a boys name,
I'd be 'son of the sea.' But I think daughter of the sea would work just as well. My elfish name would be Aearion.

Dylan beat me to it! We share the same name, so my Elven name would be Aearion as well.
This has been very inspiring, though. I've got plenty of characters I'm not using, so changing one to an aquatic based individual would be quite fun indeed. I'm thinking Merfolk or something similar. Thanks for the post!

My name meaning would be Ruler guarded by Ing... And that's pretty epic. Only one of my name's up there, but that still is pretty cool.
Not sure I would be interested in role playing solely my name meaning, but amusingly enough, if I think about it, one of my characters could be adjusted for that. Just have to put the proper deity protector in, which even in context could fit.

My name is Alexandra, and it means Defender of Men, my Elven name would be Beriadanwen.
I probably wont make a character based on this, solely out of lack of spaces, but this is really cool! Thanks.

Oh wow! This got a lot more attention than I thought it would haha.
A lot of you guys have really cool meanings behind your names. I'm so jealous :B. But I get what you mean when you say you're not too sure if you'd want to play a character based completely on the meaning of your name. I'd probably have a hard time playing a princess character anyway, I'd have to learn more about monarchies or whatever and I suck at retaining information lmao. Maybe someone who acts as if they're entitled like that, but still unsure.
Or maybe I would try a princess character? I'unno. I'd be too afraid I wouldn't play it right. But it was still a fun thing to think about!

Hmm.
My name means song (funny cuz I have a really crappy singing voice, even tho I like to sing) and in elvish it's Aerlinniel.
So what would I be in an rp then? A really bad singer?

Both my first and last names refer to fortifications and castles, literally being archaic words for these buildings. Soooo I'd be stuck as the scene-setter, I suppose!
My name means 'Servant of God', and my elvish translation is Buieruwen. I can't said I'd use it in a roleplay.
Nesseldë (Nehs-sehl-day) Menelwen (Mehn-ell-wehn), Young, a girl, and heavenly? After careful consideration, I believe I can try to play an angelic character, though I have tried to stay out of the realms of good and evil.
"Gift of God" Matthew somehow becomes "Eruantien". Uhhhh...
Netanya means gift of god
Tanya, the name in which im usually called means fairy queen
Tarellethiel

I'm a Flower Warrior who is Consecrated By God.
... Yep. I'm a freaking hippy.
