Had a blast yesterday, but one little hiccup at the end of said day...
The fireworks were louder ( and brighter) than they were last year. To me, the ground was shaking, hard. (vibrations were over the top) Normally, I am fine, even though I hate loud, sudden noises. I wasn't wearing my hearing aids during the fireworks, but they were too loud. I have 80%-90% hearing loss in my right ear so.... yeah. However, this year, my ears hurt, even wearing headphones this morning hurt, but the pattern of the music made me feel better.
I cannot just have my hearing aids off all day, but I am not sure how to stop sound from hurting. Last night, I was in bed, and someone set off poppers outside. I was nearly crying from a sound that was normally just annoying. Thankfully, my little brother closed the window and it helped enough to allow my brain to shut down so I can sleep.
In short: how do I handle sudden loud sounds so they don't hurt. I can have music loud and I am fine, but nothing else.
Sorry if this seems like I'm whining, just wondering if anyone else is hard of hearing and knows how to cope.

I'd actually recommend talking to your doctor to see if something in your ears or processing has changed. That could be very important to know, and that seems more likely than that the sound level of fireworks has changed that significantly.
I concur with Nova, this is definitely something that a doctor should check out. Even if it was caused by fireworks, if you're in so much discomfort then something is up and it should be looked at by a professional. Best of luck!
I don't have any experience with hearing loss but I wanted to help, and the only thing I could think of doing was to google the issue. I did, and you probably know this already but apparently there's a name for this phenomenon...hyperacusis. The recommendations that article has are earplugs, earmuffs, (although with reservations), white noise, and a sound therapy thing conducted by an audiologist. If you wanna check out the article, it's here (however I'm sure you know this stuff already):

Hope it gets better.
