So I've received a message from someone I'd roleplayed with in the past. One day as if out of the blue I found myself blocked by them. I was admittedly a bit sour at first but I never had a way of checking in or asking why. So when I got a message from them I thought maybe I had been unblocked. Nope. So I'm not sure what to do. I would really like to tell them I cannot RP because they have blocked me, should I simply leave them hanging wondering if I am just rude?

Good question. It's possible they blocked you by accident. (I've done this to a good friend on my phone before with fumble fingers when I dropped it. I managed to hit 'block', and the 'confirm' Fortunately we are connected on another site and they asked why I blocked them). Otherwise it's fairly fool proof. You have to hit the 'block' then you have to confirm.

Yeah, that what I was thinking too. Could someone who blocked someone unblock them just to send a message then block them again? That would be harassment as it would be premeditated and not allow for any sort of reply.

This is very frustrating and I'm sorry about that! Being blocked without knowing why is unfortunately an unpleasant situation, but there are a few reasons this might be happening:

1. You could have an anonymous character that they blocked but don't know is yours, which means your entire account is blocked.
2. They may have chosen to block you previously, forgotten about the block, and tried to get in touch without realizing you can't respond.
3. They accidentally blocked you and don't know at all there's an issue (although this is difficult to achieve, it's not impossible).
4. They blocked you by choice and are sending messages to bother you over it.

Unfortunately there's no real way to figure it out without breaking the rules on harassment. It's probably best to wait for another message to see if they're really trying to get a response from you and that it can be assumed they're unaware of the block. If that's the case, the mods can look into this if you report the PM.

It doesn't because this would be a way for people to fish out people's anonymous characters. Blocking an anonymous character and then being unable to PM the player you suspect is the anonymous character would be really easy if communication was blocked both ways!

Yes, AND -- this has been tightened up in2.0, such that if you block someone, you will then not be able to PM them or any of their publicly owned characters, but may be able to message their anon characters. It will function on the principal of "if you KNOW you blocked them" for outgoing messages so as to preserve people's privacy while reducing the chance for accidentally PMing someone you forgot you blocked, or of harassing people.
